  1. HAHAHAHA, my wife go fishing??? I DON'T think so, can't haul her out of the mall long enough.
  2. yipes what a pig
  3. Cold? Nah, its only going to be -25 or so on Tuesday up here in the wind.
  4. I think you're right. Out from Minet's Point there are lots of huts, so I assume at least decent fishing. I guess they do it at this location not for the fishing, but because of the southshore centre (parking, breakfast, lunch etc). The rest of the ice season I never see anyone fish in this area so I'm pretty sure its not exactly a hotspot .
  5. ya, kind of funny how they did that. Top 5 prizes were great, and then every once in a while there would be a great prize thrown in at a weird spot. Made it kind of interesting actually, sometimes had you hoping they wouldn't call your name until you got to that better prize!
  6. lakers not bad...but snagging that rod off bottom is a great catch! Are you allowed to keep it considering you snagged it?
  7. So I did manage to cart myself onto Kempenfelt bay Saturday afternoon to participate in the charity tournament. Cost was $80.00 per hole with proceeds benefitting local charities (RVH Cancer Centre last year, Gilda's Club this year). Didn't seem that cold at home, but man was I happy to have the survival suit on! Now I understand why "Tarpus Maximus" has some problems on the ice...it gets mighty windy on Simcoe. Even though I live 5 minutes away, I've never actually ice fished Kempenfelt bay before. To make things worse, I've never fished for whitefish or trout before either! Stopped in at Simcoe Bait and Tackle to talk a little "shop" with the local experts. Ended up meeting the guy who finished second in last years tourney and got a few tips... pretty sure everyone lied to me I ended up with zero trout and precisely zero whitefish. Fortunately, I did land a couple of perch (out of 50 feet of water) and one was big enough to get me in the prizes. I finished 48th out of approx. 500 people, winning $150.00 in ice fishing gear from Bass Pro. Top 50 people got prizes. Funny thing is, the guy in 50th place won an aluminum boat, guess I should have done a little worse! Either way, a fun day and supporting great local charities. I'll definitely be back.
  8. good time to buy in barrie. Prices are down from a couple of years ago and there is a ton on the market. Many houses for sale with very few buyers at this time of year. If you look around enough you will find a great deal (ps my house is for sale!)
  9. charity event, costs $80.00 per hole, runs from noon til 3 p.m. starting at the southshore centre on lakeshore drive. $ goes to a Gilda's Club which they are starting up in Barrie. I had a friend last year who won $100 last year on a dink perch because so few fish got caught! Biggest perch last year apparently won an aluminum boat.
  10. nice report. Those jacks can be a ton of fun when they are busting the bait like that, pretty good fighters too! Yellow bucktail jig always did the trick for me when it came to schooled up jacks.
  11. good luck, think I'm going to enter the tournie on kempenfelt bay tomorrow
  12. I'm very afraid! Last summer before all these reports became known there was someone who fished our small cottage lake using crayfish and leeches from that area! I'm hoping I'll still have some fishing to do.
  13. I'm with Mike the Pike, where's the Minimus shot! Nice whitefish btw
  14. man oh man that's a beauty
  15. very nice pike through the ice. All that pressure and serious fish just keep showing up
  16. week-ends are usually slow, just wait till everyone gets back to work and turns on their computer!
  17. c'mon clive, them cudas are bait either way I'm jealous! Have fun in Cozumel
  18. good stuff. My first time ice fishing was on that lake. Nice little spot, pike aren't too big but quite accomodating.
  19. good looking fish. Can hardly wait for simcoe musky to start chowing down on those greasy buggers
  20. Thanks for the update Sheri, keep us aware of how you're doing, but make your dad do all your typing, gotta rest that hand!
  21. oh man that is persistence...but you finally won! Funny how a smaller "pole" to plant was viewed as a good thing, gonna have to report that to my missus.
  22. great report, sounds like some non-stop action!
  23. Like Mareen, my one trip a year is Lakair in June, and unfortunately, even that looks pretty unlikely this year.
  24. I walked out last year onto the marina ice to watch some people fish. Saw them catching perch in the 7-9 inch range, but not as quickly as during the open water period. If you come up this way, you will see a lot of huts out by Minet's Point but few or none by the marina. People by the marina are just doing the one day thing.
  25. wow, scary stuff Lew. The timing of my reading your post is a bit ironic. A guy flew past me on the highway yesterday in poor weather, I said to my passenger that if he gets in an accident, I am not going to stop. Call me cold hearted, but this idiot was asking for trouble.
