  1. I heard the ice blew out of quinte on the weekend. I was planning on going there this weekend, but looks like I'll be playing it by ear. Once I get out there a time or two, I can help ya with what I know. For now though, quinte is a no go. S.
  2. I fish quinte a fair bit, but I dont know of any hut operators there. At least I dont see any in the locations I fish.....where the fish are.....first ice is the key, and start fishing in the dark, and stay til dark. I catch them at all times of day, but dusk/dawn are definitley the witching hours. Its not too hard to figure out on your own. Just get out there and jig your arm off all day and you will get fish. If you want any more specific info, pm me. S.
  3. Bah, i'll be out there next week! Trust me, the operators will be on perch then too. S.
  4. I built one for my dad a number of years ago. 16x24 with a second floor loft. By the time it was all said and done, he was in it for right around 10G. We did the whole thing ourself, that's just materials. The only other contractor he had in was the electrician to hook up the panel, and the concrete truck to pour the slab. S.
  5. You didnt put in a course of block for the walls?? S.
  6. Its one my gf got at costco. Not sure the brand. Used it all last season with no issues....no complaints. S.
  7. I have both, and most times, since I got the pop up, I use the pop up. More room, easier to drag around, and really, they set up quick. If I'm walking, its the pop up for sure.....unless its glare ice. With the sled, I will drag the flip hut every time. The only downfall is if you want to move around. Then the pop up sucks. I hate taking it down to move. With the flip over, its a 5 minute take down and all your gear is already in the sled. With the pop up, you first have to take all your gear out of the hut, take it down, and load into the sled to move.....then re-set. If you can find one, the little tool that attaches to a cordless drill for turning in the ice screws is worth its weight in gold! They are both better than sitting on a bucket in the wind though! S.
  8. Im glad I wasnt on the river that day. Sheesh.... S
  9. Yes, I would love to, but I will be on my 3rd week of a trip to NFLD then. Bummer....sort of. S.
  10. Most important safety equipment is your brain. Use it! S.
  11. I dont think the blue collar guys have left, they just see the pressure on their local waters, so keep things tight lipped. Myself, I like the off topic stuff. Lots to learn, and I have already learned tons from reading this board. That said, I havent posted a report for ages. Not sure why, I just dont see the need to anymore. Ive met a lot of good people here, and enjoy reading all the posts, and reports. Its quite a diverse group, with a ton of knowledge. I would rather share knowledge, than photos of my ugly mug holding a fish. All that said, there are some killer reports, and I read them all!! S.
  12. Nice. I bet its thicker after the weekend. S.
  13. If the old battery will take a charge, it could be your alternator. In that case, your running off your battery, and it could very well let you down again. S.
  14. Nice run. I love a good road trip! S.
  15. Nice! A 5 x 10 trailer is exactly what I need too!! S.
  16. Sorry to hear that Cliff. If you need a hand with anything, dont be afraid to ask!!!! Take care of yourself! S.
  17. I like to set in a pool. I trap very small creeks though. Basically spring fed streams, with black mud bottoms. Almost swampy kind of streams. The headwaters of larger tribs. Mostly catch dace. S.
  18. There is much less available food under the ice so minnows are easier to attract to bait then. I have good luck thru the ice, you jusy need a spot with enough current that it doesnt freeze too much. Throw some spruce boughs over the hole, and cover with snow to prevent too much ice on the hole. Works good. S.
  19. An 1860 will handle the kawarthas no problem, but they pound the crap out of you in rough water. I would think for $3500 you could get a 16ft deep v tiller no problem......much better rig IMO. S.
  20. You da man James! S.
  21. Yep, I also use bedliner on my trailer. Slick as snot, and keeps you from sliding around.
  22. Ive always wondered why these silly things are mounted at the stern. Do you ever anchor from the stern? Wouldnt one on, or close to the bow work better? I would never get one myself, I just dont see the need for one, but I think they look silly on a fancy glitter boat. S.
  23. Once we have it I will have a hut on the perch grounds. We will hook up im sure S.
