Price isn't bad at all if you know someone who knits. I bet you could get a couple made for the price of your base layer. S.
-
A quality base layer is worth every cent. Spend some money on a good base and the rest doesnt really matter much. I wear fleece if its real cold, but usually just whatever pants and a hoody with a fleece zip up over top. If its really cold i break outthe hand knit merino wool sweater. Its like putting on a heater. S.

Mine does. My vehicle is covered if i put it through the ice as well. S.

We are tapping this weekend. Yes, skim the ice off, but only if it is a skim. Any more than a skim of ice and its sap....you dont want to waste a drop of that!!! I am surprised you even have sap flowing this week. Temps dont look good for my area anyways. Im hoping to join forces with a buddy of mine this year. I moved from my last place with the maples and now dont have any. We are shooting for 100 taps this weekend. S.

Over a foot in beaverton cliff. Your good to go. I dont know why people feel they should add their opinion when it comes to ice conditions. I was 5 miles out of port bolster on 11" just the other day too. S.

I tried to light a match and it froze. It was -38C on sunday morning where we were near Plevna. We fished all day. S.

Nobody knows how long they are in effect for yet. As a taxpayer I want a lake with fish, and I will not fish it, with no problems. You can still fish musky, bass and crappies in there. Its only closed for walleye. What happens if I fish the river and catch some walleye, then run down the lake to the boat launch with those fish in my livewell, and get stopped by the CO?? Who is going to enforce that?? I see a total gong show with this. Just shut the whole thing down. You can't just close part of the lake. S.

All of it. As in lake scugog watershed. Simple enough if you ask me, no? There is a DAM separating scugog and sturgeon....that's a pretty clear boundary, no? I see no point in keeping the lake closed and the rivers open when the fish go to the rivers to spawn. Sure, the season opens a week later in a section of the river, but so what, the fish are still there. I know this because I fish there a lot. I live 10 mins from the boat launch...... Regardless, closing the fishery isn't going to do squat to bring back the fish. There is a lot more to it than closing the fishing. If the fish don't reproduce, there won't be any fish left. Start by doing some rehab on the spawning areas and go from there. I think they will be OK if and when the crappies level out. I guess only time will tell. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. S.

Yeah, doesn't make any sense to me at all. Whats the point of closing the lake if you can fish them in the rivers where they spawn? Typical MNR Bull. Such a joke. S.
-
Kinda pointless isn't it? You can't fish the lake for walleye, but you can fish the rivers when they spawn? SEriously? Just shut it down....all of it. Simple. S.

I've worn out a mustang and now have a Helly Hanson....both great, but if I was going to do it again it would be arctic armour 2 piece. Just so much more comfy and I hate wearing my one piece suit in the hut. Most times the last couple years I wear my duck hunting gear on the ice. Just more comfy and its nice to take the parka off in the hut and just wear the bibs. I like the once piece on first or last ice, but for the most part, I hate wearing a one piece suit, and I don't plan on falling thru the ice. S.

A 20lber is better for sure, but once they start getting low they ice up too. It doesn't have to be cold either. When I'm boiling sap, my tanks will freeze after about 2/3's of the way. Then I lift them up into the steam and they are fine again. S.

I think speed is the primary factor with snowmobiles requiring insurance. A lot of people are dead from going too fast on them, so I would think insurance claims are pretty common with snowmobilers. For what it costs me a month to insure mine, it is peace of mind at the very least. I think I only pay about $20/mo S.

I haven't even fished quinte this year and I usually fish it once a week. I went down there one time a few weeks ago for a look and couldn't even get out to my spot so turned around and came home. Sketchy ice for sure. It may be better now, but I don't have any first hand intel. I could offer some access points and possible safe ice locations though if you'd like to take a trip and find out for yourself. Just PM me if your interested. They got nailed pretty good with snow on tuesday, so I would think getting around would be miserable at best, and taking a machine is not advisable IMO. S.

Yep, the only time you don't need insurance is to run on your own property. S.

Tim hales has a fleet of the nicest bombi's ive ever seen. They are hot rods! S.

Me neither. Ice fishing to me is spending time outdoors with family and friends, enjoying the scenery, and catching a few fish. My weekends off certainly arent going to be spent cooped up in the city, inside, with a few thousand other people. Thats more like torture to me. Id rather freeze my balls off and get skunked where i was anytime. S.

I've heard that this guy was a local who lived on the island. He got disoriented in a snow squall and ended up in the open (or just skimmed over) Ferry channel. To call him an idiot is pretty ignorant. People have been driving vehicles across to the island and machines have been running all over that ice for 3 weeks now. I have been out there myself on my machine. The ice is plenty safe IN THAT AREA. I feel sorry for his family and friends. S.
