Bingo! The water hasn't warmed up at all. Maybe for a few days, a couple weeks apart, but its still cold. I fished lakers up in the haliburton area two weeks ago, and the water was 40F on the surface. I just got back from 3 days up there, and it was 43-46 on the same small lake. Not much change in 2 weeks of fairly warm weather. Lots of big winds though. I have ice fished at this time of year many times. Once the bugs get going, things will pick up. I've also caught lots of crappies on the walleye opener on cold springs, but the water was very high those times. I'm not sure how the low water will effect things.... BTW, the lakes we fished trout on the last 3 days, the water is very high, but the rivers/creeks are super low. They've at least held enough water back, that the lakes in that area aren't drying up too. Certainly a different spring season any way you look at it. S.

I went with STS guiding, and also went in may. Don't expect to get into a monster at that time of year. You will catch fish, probably lots of them, but they will average 3-5ft. Don't get me wrong, we had an awesome time, with non stop action. However, our big fish of the day was only a 6ft'er. We probably put 25 in the boat though!! The guys at STS have great gear, awesome boats, and they know where the fish are. I went there for a May long weekend. Great time, and I want to go back in the fall for a real monster!! Anywhere they measure fish in feet, is cool with me S.

The guys running the locks are on crack. I don't know what they're thinking sometimes. I haven't seen the water that low at this time for years, and years. I have no clue why they would let the water down. That can mess up the walleye fishing in all those lakes for years. Brutal S.

Absolutely! There is a difference in a couple kids sharing a rod, and idiots with $1000 worth of gear, though! Kids get a full catch limit! S.

Might not be too many bugs for fly fishing by then. I'm headed north tomorrow. The weather is nasty, but what can ya do. Worst case, we burn all the firewood in the cabin and run out of booze I already packed a snow shovel And 3 sets of rain gear Bring worms for sure. Spinners and worm harnesses worked just fast enough to turn the blades will get 'em, even in a cold front. S.

Anytime you can fill a bucket with less than 50 perch, they are HOGS! Nice work! S.
-
It depends where your installing them and how much access you have. Where are they going? Gunnels? S.
-
I like them raw, with a bit of dip. Fantastic! S.

You gotta go shallower than that! I've been getting mine in less than 2 ft of water since ice out!! Good effort though!! Keep atter! S.

Yep, fisherman whine and cry the blues on the internet, but when it comes down to actually doing something, nobody shows up. Same thing with the kawartha lakes reg changes a couple years ago. I went to the meeting expecting a full house, but there was maybe 30 people there. Get off your and go to the meetings if you want something done. That is what these meetings are for. The more input the get from fisherman, the better!!! S.

They seem to be small around here too, Brian. They are starting though. Should be good this weekend for sure. I'll be out getting my share. I never miss my brook trout with a side of fiddle heads in the spring!! S.

Happy birthday Brian! S.

Yep, there will be a bolt on the side of the leg of your motor to adjust steering tension. I adjust mine tighter when I am doing a lot of trolling, so i don't have to steer as much. I then loosen it a half a turn when running on plane. Sounds like its backed out on you. S.

Where are you located? I couldn't get them up north earlier this week, but we didn't need them anyways. My local guy here has them though. S.

I would have never guessed people go to algonquin to fish for bass.....crazy! S.

I don't think I've ever been to a cottage with a dishwasher. I have a dishwasher at home and don't even use it. S.

We have them here in the kawartha's this week, but didn't have them in haliburton earlier this week. Anytime now they will be THICK! S.

Ethanol has many, many more bad qualities than good when it comes to boats and water. It will pull humidity out of the air, and into your gas tank. Many, many problems with boat engines are due to ethanol fuels, and water in the gas. It also leads to phase separation in 2 strokes gas/oil mix. Seafoam is a great stabilizer. What have you read to think otherwise?? Just curious. I've been using it for about 5 years now. I give my engine a good dose of it in the fall, then add about an ounce per gallon all season long as preventative maintenance. I swear by it. I've seen it fix all sorts of fuel related problems. It cleans everything from the gas tank, right thru to the exaust. S.
-
I use it all the time. Its a great line for me. Its got less stretch than full mono, but the abrasion and invisible characteristics of fluoro. I use it for all my light line panfish rods, and up to 17lb for harnesses and leaders off braid. I like it. S.

I'm kinda lucky. My local gas station in town is all ethanol free. The shell V-power, which I try to run all the time in everything, has NO ethanol. I get the best mileage out of that fuel by a long shot.(200+km/tank more!!) Its worth the extra couple bucks per tank just for the mileage. Try a tank and see how it works for you. Regular gas is fine in your older 2 stroke, but if you want to avoid ethonal, I'd suggest running the shell V-power. It really does make a difference. S.

Can you shorefish walleye on Lake Ontario
Sinker replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
It can be done, but you may have to spend a LOT of hours trying. I've even caught small ones in my smelt net. Night time is really your only chance, unless your fishing the pickering Nuke plant, and that's not happening from shore anymore. My PB came from shore there though! Most of them are caught accidentally while fishing something else. S.
