  2. Contrary to rumours, and any bad odors around here, I'ma still alive and a kicking. Past 2 years have been a whirlwind of activity. Nary a day to catch one's breath. Was nice to see a few familiar faces on Sunday in Peterborough.

  6. And it's not the zipper on your jacket pocket. Get down on one knee and pee in the bucket, your trouser snake isn't that long that anyone has to stand up.

  7. well...............it looks like I will be buying a Terrova 55 lb (12 volt) model with I-Pilot and a foot pedal. The new ride is a 16 foot Alumacraft with a 40 hp Yamaha. The hull is rated for 50 hp but there is a new 40 on it and no chance to swap for a 50. Thanks for all the advice, folks! Next question is a "fish finder" and I will start a new topic for that. Doug

  9. I won't show you my guitar collection/music gear, gun collection, decoy collection, and we aren't even going to talk about fishing tackle and rods/reels. Nope, not even going there. I might need a hand building another shed.......:)

  13. On spinning reels you can use what you want but on a bait caster there are spots where you do not want to use grease, Vaseline nor KY gel but the proper light oil in the right spots will keep you making long casts I do them about every two years More often when I was doing tourneys

  17. You will have a heck of a time reading that 5 inch screen when you are out in the boat. Especially for navigating. the 7 will allow you to navigate no problem, I was using a 7 up until last year at my console purely for the gps and had no issues running around the lake at 50mph and reading it.

  18. Congrats, you are going to love the alumacraft. They are really solid built boats. They feel like a tank on the water. if I wasn’t in a glass boat, I’d own an alumacraft myself. I still use my old man’s trophy 185 regularly and love it, just not as much as my glasser

  19. Shag, I’d save yourself a few extra Pennies and get the 7 over the 5. The difference in screen size between the 5 and 7 is about as noticeable as the difference between a 7 and a 12. i found the 5 very difficult the read the GPS off of especially since screens are now always in landscape format. i wish I could sell you my helix 7 g2 chirp gps at a stupid deal but I just realized today that for some reason I can no longer get the transducer to connect to it. if you simply want water temp, gps, and depth you cannot go wrong with a helix 7 chirp gps G2. It’s the lowest price with some of the best imaging on the market. For a guy that’s also looking for a simple unit to use it’s right up there with the best for that application. An added bonus they are extremely simple to convert to and ice fishing flasher if you buy a xi 9 ice transducer! ill add, if you are looking for any help with wiring/getting it set up and dialed, as per my other thread let me know id love to help!

  20. To me, it’s totally dependant on a reels usage. My smallmouth stuff holds up a hell of a lot more than my dirty flipping largie stuff. i try to prioritize the reels that I use most, but also refrain from totally breaking down new reels and resort to simple oil, regrease of the spool shaft and worm gear and a cleaning of the exterior. Stuff that’s been used heavy for a few years I break right down. i find certain reels especially your classic JDM greenie curados and chronarchs and stradics etc, those reels seemingly can be brought back to life with a good cleaning that’s why I love buying them for a good deal. Break em down clean and oil and they fish like brand new almost every time. breaking down reels becomes a hobby for me like fly tying, it passes long cold winter days that are too miserable for me to be out in the garage tinkering on the boat. i will say, high end well built reels a heck a lot of the time just need a good cleaning and at worst a set of new bearings. The components in them are usually so robust that aside from a bit of cosmetic boat rash those reels are as good as new once serviced.

  21. Went to the show on Saturday and I'll echo what was said here. Not many tackle areas and lots of ATV's. I miss the days with the Arena full of events. On the plus side my kid caught a trout and was ecstatic so that made the day worthwhile

  22. I had my inflatable accidentally go off in the fall while duck hunting, and i tell ya, by the time it actually inflated, I would have been drowned. It took a long time, and never actually fully inflated. Definitely do no reccomend for cold weather situations. S.

  23. Your not the first guy with a hobby gone wrong pal! You won’t be the last! It’s like guns, the trick is to get it into the safe without getting caught. Then one looks just like the others. Hooks and feathers are no different!!
