Old Ironmaker Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 We were kids when we watched tapings at the old CHCH studio in Hamilton. Pompero Firpo, " oh yeaaaaa Lord Athol Layton" and Dominic Dinucci were favorites along with too many to list. Many worked at Stelco when I was starting there.
misfish Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Was George the Animal not a car sales man in Hamilton?
Old Ironmaker Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Was George the Animal not a car sales man in Hamilton? I'm not sure Brian, from what I remember he was a teacher in the states somewhere.

lookinforwalleye Posted December 9, 2014 Report Posted December 9, 2014 Ya, should of done that, but it was what was said way back when. Thanks Gord. slow day at the dealership....lots of Wiki time!!!
Old Ironmaker Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) And let's not forget everyone's whipping boy back in the day.....Silent Death Brrrrrian Mmmackney!!! We played on the same NFC team in Stoney Creek in 78'. He also tag teamed with his brother, also hearing impaired. Brian was a offensive tackle, to get off the snap count he would watch the foot of the guard beside him. One tough guy. Unless it was a different silent Brian that wrestled. Moosebunk Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Tough to pick one... Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Ricky the Dragon, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Ultimate Warrior were probably the favorites of the bunch. The British Bulldogs, Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid were the favorite tag team.
LostAnotherOne Posted December 10, 2014 Author Report Posted December 10, 2014 Wow. I must be the young buck on this forum cause most of you guys mentioned wrestlers I never heard of before. Way, way, way before my time. lol
bigugli Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Wow. I must be the young buck on this forum cause most of you guys mentioned wrestlers I never heard of before. Way, way, way before my time. lol If you are referring to Maple Leaf Wrestling, we are going back to the 60's and 70's. the WWF did not exist back then. Some of the greatest legends, like Gorgeous George, go back to the 50's.
wkrp Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 What about Bruno Samartino. The true Italian Stallion.
Old Ironmaker Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 What about Bruno Samartino. The true Italian Stallion. Oh man, he was actually my first favorite, with the tap out Bear hug. They are going to take my Regina Club membership card back, how did I ever forget him. Mi dispiace Bruno. Then there was Ivan "Polish Power" Putski.
Headhunter Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Eric Frolick! Right after the hockey game, it was on to wrestling for us, and there was always the "duration match with Eric Frolick, barefoot, showing real skill in the ring, until the bad guy pulverized him just before the bell! HH
Mike Pike Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Hey, I remember Eric Frolick too. He was a 'good' guy from the wrestling that was shot out of Vancouver. I remember him against another good guy and it was what they refered to at the time as a 'scientific match.' Two guys fighting clean, fast and attempting multiple holds and pins, fighting to a draw and shaking hands at the end of the match. Never saw too many matches like that one.
superdad Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 My early wresting shows were the shows on French TV in Montreal on Wednesday night from the Forum and my favourite was Waldek "Killer" Kowalski. Those were the days of Yvon Robert, Larry Moquin, Gorgeous George, Yukon Eric (Kowalski took off part of his ear one night with a knee Drop) and Don Leo Jonathan. Then Edouard Carpentier arr'd and it got really good, I saw Carpentier and Kowalski at Delormier Stadium in Montreal perhaps 1956???? In the WWF, Roddy Piper was a fav with the Macho Man. Today, the show is all the talk and lots of punching and kicking - on the positive side the jumps and leaps today are way better than years ago. David aka Superdad
206 Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) Dusty Rhodes "The American Dream" Kamala The Ugandan Head Hunter. and the funniest thing i ever remember seeing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0RVJQrYvSA Edited December 10, 2014 by 206
i2cool2fool Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Leaping Lanny the standing dropkick king!
Roy Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 on the positive side the jumps and leaps today are way better than years ago. David aka Superdad I guess the ballet lessons helped.
Shloim Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Back in the day my dad used to take us to the gardens and you could get ting side seats from the box office the night of . It was maple leaf wrestling and Billy Red Lyons wrestled in the first match every time. Mr Fuji was still wrestling too
