Woodsman Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 As a former serving member of the Canadian Forces I'm completely discussed.Just finished watching the opening of the LA / Vancouver NHL game.During the Canadian national anthem the member of the US Forces standing beside the singer of the anthem was standing at at ease but when the US National anthem was sung he came to attention and saluted.Complete disrespect period.
leaf4 Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 That's just plain rude, I'm sure you weren't the only one to notice.
aplumma Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Before this goes down the wrong road. While I did not see the incident I am ex military from the USA and it is called the NATIONAL ANTHEM your nations anthem. Parade rest or if not in the official dress uniform at ease is the correct posture for a person who is not of the country. Sitting down or talking or drinking a beer while it is being played would be something to grouse about. I hope this helps people understand such a small incident should not be blown out of proportion during winternet season. Art
Raf Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 he was in official dress? canadian service stands at attn during the us anthem.
lew Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 at ease is the correct posture for a person who is not of the country. I don't know anything about the American military Art, but in the Canadian Military you come to attention no matter who's National Anthem is being played.
SirCranksalot Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 In this, as in many other matters, the biggest cause of stress is that the rest of the world doesn't live by our rules .
Terry Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Let's hope he gets dressed down for his stupidity

It's because we are their "retarded cousin to the North" Get used to it, in the eyes of the US of A, they are the best, the rest suck!
Woodsman Posted January 5, 2014 Author Report Posted January 5, 2014 He wasn't in the stands but at center ice beside the singer of the national anthems. In the Canadian Forces while in uniform if not in a formed unit you come to attention & salute when any national anthem is played.
bare foot wader Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 It's because we are their "retarded cousin to the North" Get used to it, in the eyes of the US of A, they are the best, the rest suck! I work for a US owned company with a ton of guys from Alabama...this is very, very, very true...I see it on a daily/weekly basis
misfish Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Posted Today, 10:56 AM Let's hope he gets dressed down for his stupidity No wonder you werent catching. You were following the board out there.LOL
Sebastian Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 This is exactly why the military has nothing to do with hockey. It is a sport. Pushing Canadian/American forces has nothing to do with the game.

Pushing Canadian/American forces has nothing to do with the game. I don't watch much organized sports but when I do, I always like to see the military there, both Canadian and American, taking part on the opening ceremonies and the military pageantry IMHO adds alot to the program. But being ex-military, perhaps I'm biased.
Terry Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 yeah but remember it was one guy, not the whole country that disrespected our flag/national anthem so
blaque Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 It's because we are their "retarded cousin to the North" Get used to it, in the eyes of the US of A, they are the best, the rest suck! Uhhhhh.....WRONG!!!!! On both counts!! And I ought to know....
Roy Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 These topics always go to hell in a handcart. Terry has the sensible last word on this. Let's let it go and take a deep breath. Thanks.
