BillM Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 X-Rap, Zara Spook Jr, pumpkinseed tube jig, senko's...
OhioFisherman Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Tubes, Storm Wee Steelie Wart, 4 inch Zoom lizard, 1/8 ounce hair jig and a small pork frog, 3 inch white plastic twister tail grubs, 2-3 inch sassy shads, Road Runners with a small pork or plastic trailer, tiny torpedo.
Fisher_1 Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Strike King Bleeding tubes in pearl pepper. They work amazingly up in the bayfield area where i go camping at.
bdox Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 3/8th oz white spinnerbait, Dropshot, shakeyhead, a tube and throw in a lipless crank for good measure.
Dave Bailey Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 I think that what we've been able to learn from this thread is that the best bait for smallmouth bass is... ... ... ... ANYTHING! Just put something in the water, better than nothing.
Roy Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Yeah, with bass it's usually which company has the best marketing campaign. In all fairness, it's the same with other species.
ehg Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Without a doubt a Heddon/Excalibur "Spittin Image" topwater has caught me the most and biggest smallmouth. Have caught a few over 6lbs in Kawarthas on this. The lure in the middle is Pop n' Image which i don't even use. Will throw these all day and they work anytime. The fish below was caught at 3 in afternoon a couple of summers ago. If it is way too rough i will throw a double willowleaf spinnerbait or just troll muskies.
manitoubass2 Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Berkley 3"swim baits, the perch color, retrieved fast on a 1/4oz jig. Booyah swim jig black/blue or black/red, with Berkley Chigger craw, same colors. Cut about an inch off the chigger
Nipfisher Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 I am dissapointed in you all. Not a single marshmallow comment. What is going on with this community?
fishnsled Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) I am dissapointed in you all. Not a single marshmallow comment. What is going on with this community? Just was getting through the comments and was so happy that no one gave away the secret weapon of choice by many here and you had to go and do it!! Nice, I'll never get another smallie with the secret out....again. I've done very well with a particular soft plastic the last few years that no one has mentioned. Nice to know that there are still a few secrets out there. Edited June 13, 2011 by fishnsled
Broker Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 believe it or not , i go and pick up lures from the dollar store , and they are actually outfishing my rapalas! And there only a dollar. !
Live2fish85 Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Mepps spinners, tube jigs and yum dingers or slammers for drop shot.
Fishnwire Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 The "funnest" way to fish for smallies is anything top-water...but if it's too choppy you're screwed. Then I'd go with a twitch or crank bait. They'll also hammer a lot of different kinds of plastic rigged a lot of different ways. Live bait is very reliable too, but I pretty much gave it up because I find I get more gut-hooked bass on it than I do on artificials. SMB fishing is pretty much my favorite. I love those little pigs.
lookinforwalleye Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Try a jig head and curly tail you may be pleasantly surprised!
northernpike56 Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 mepps spinners, tubes, and those floating rapalas for me
irishfield Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 I have good luck with the 10" Mr. T bait...
ctranter Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 I was always the guy who said "you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to get quality crankbaits".. then I broke and splurged on some lucky craft jointed 1.5' diving cranks and I've never looked back. To this date, I have caught more big smallies (including MY lake record) on these lures (American Shad to be specific) than any other single lure. I can't say enough good things about these cranks, as my lake is pretty shallow and these things rape. If I'm trolling cranks, I'm trolling Lucky Craft... When it gets colder, I swift to a shaky head/dropshot rig with a variety of soft plastics, but nothing beats the intensity that fish hit those cranks with... makes me miss every July after it's done
backbay Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 A Zara Spook, perch-coloured x-rap, watermelon senko, Berkley leeches, so many choices!
