Andy Rooney Rant (NF)

Hope I don't get any backlash from the more politically correct on the board, but ya gotta love Andy Rooney! :clapping:

Andy said on 60 Minutes' a few weeks back:

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, which is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I have the right 'NOT' to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling; it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot you if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word 'freeze' or 'stop' in English, see the above lines.

I don't think, just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich I don't pity the poor

I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better and put your name on a building.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary and say 'NO!'

I think tattoos and piercing are fine, if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of 'Political Correctness.' I know a lot of black people and not a single one of them was born inAfrica; so how can they be 'African-Americans'? Besides,Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else,

and if you don't like my point of view, tough...

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITHLIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

And what about

CANADIANS?

They feel the same. Bravo for the Canadians too!!!

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to BE QUIET!!!

Andy Rooney...I got a book full of his speeches. When you read it, you might agree or disagree with him on points here and there and he does have a sense of humour...but he is mostly 'McSpeech', the Jerry Seinfeld of the news only in the "Grumpy Old Man" version.

Why do they hand out peanuts on a 2 hour flight? Did you ever wonder why we can put a man on the moon but my morning bus is never on time? And whats with the mottos on licence plates? Do i really care which State is the 'Show me State' ? Who decides which one is the Constitution State? Aren't they all bound by the Constitution? Why is 220 MPH on my car's speedometer?

Appeals mostly to _________ whats the politically correct term?

This thread is sorta like seeing someone in a Leaf jersey and thinking they were a hockey player ...and they played on the Leafs...and you asked them for an autograph...and told everyone you were a big fan OOPS its just Bill from across the street

Does it make me “politically correct” if I think that most of these statements are at worst racism and at the absolute best, extremely intolerant.

An amazing thing happens when you quit looking at other groups of people for the source of your problems: Inner peace.

Doesn't matter who the comments are attributed to, they sure make alot of sense in my opinion.

Tolerance and understanding are good human qualities, however I believe they are taken advantage of more times than not.

Cheers

Craig

PS...I could totally picture Andy Rooney speaking those words. I almost wanted to reach out and trim those eyebrows.

Here we go with the Racist comment that some people use Too Often. For one thing most , if not all those points are TRUE like it or not. The second thing is, NOBODY SAID that a Race should be discriminated or Terminated. So shove the Racist crap up your split arse. If those are the facts, those are the facts. I happen to believe those are the facts like it or not. Do I think some people are at a disadvantage in the name of diversity. Lets see. One thing I really hate is, Oh I failed this because I'm whatever. Seen too many spineless excuses for failure.

When somebody poses as someone else( Andy Rooney )and then makes a pile of statements about race and religion, I question the movitves of that individual.

Regardless or whether you feel those points are true or not, the person making 'em is pretty sketchy and I don't like to give them too much credit for their views.

But that's me.

Its all in the angle you look from I s'pose.

If you keep it generic theres nothing but truth in them lines...

But if you make an issue and apply it to a specific race, or "every" imigrant then yes...its racist

To me its a pretty generic statement....its all good.

And I'm no raceist...I hate everyone equally :w00t:

...Moreover, Rooney himself denied it in 2003, saying:

"About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks made under my name that have had such wide circulation on the Internet.

[...]

Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom must believe that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don't dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging to my reputation."

It is attitudes such as those incorrectly attributed to Andy Rooney that are in part responsible for the growing mess of hatred, lack of tolerance and growth of misunderstanding that is at the root of our collective downfall. Just look around you or read a newspaper that doesn't feed your growing fear and encourage your isolation.

Do you follow any sort of faith or religion? I 'spect you do. Talking about stones, do you have them big enough to ask the hard questions? Is that attitude consistent with the teachings of Jesus, or Mohammad, or Buddha, or the Dali Lama?
