  1. Lundboy, i read most of that stuff 15+ yrs. ago, since then i've seen that most people have an awareness of this anyways. Baudrillard was looking at how technologies have changed our process of thinking. The reality is that regular folks in the western world have it better than ever. Look at the ancient game of chess. Pawns are sacrificied, then knights to protect the bishops and mainly protect the king and queens and their home (castles). I wasn't even aware of ' Earth Hour' and was sleeping during it after a 14 hour work shift , this flu tired me out as well. Life is good and hopefully this event raised some enviromental awareness, but will it stop those 'flying carp' from entering the Great Lakes.
  2. Lundboy, it's good to see someone trying to spread 'alternative' knowledge to some people. Coming out of university in the early 90's i read Noam Chomsky, Jean Baudrillard, and other post- modernist authours like crazy. They were toeing your same line as well. Naomi Wolf was in my GF's classes at the time (U of T). An interesting film to see right now is 'Zeitgeist' which clearly shows what you speak of. I try not to be paranoid but we are playthings of a powerful few. There is a slow but general improvement in the lives of First World peoples at the expense of Third World folk.
  3. Very creative writing and superb fish. Kesagami is the best. Thanks for taking time to do excellent post. ehg
  4. Your a lucky man with happy folks around you. Not much else matters than being a good father. I like the pic with the carp and hood up on the truck best. lol ehg
  5. ehg

    Thanks

I would concur with that sentiment. In the 4-5 yrs that i've participated here ( in a low- key way), met some good people, gained some computer savvy and learned a little more about fishing and life. Thanks, ehg
  6. Nice fish and report. Its pretty cool running into other OFNers while out fishing. I was lucky enough to spend about 12 yrs. living very close to that creek. Nice going, ehg I think there were so many people due to it being sunny and Easter long weekend. No big deal.
  7. Thanks SNAG, These fish posed themselves. Sexy? i don't know.
  8. Well SNAG you seem vindicated now. No question you've put in your time and caught many pike when their loaded with food and roe. Keep up the posts and fishing there, we are truly blessed to have such good fishing outside our offices in this urban setting. By the way back in the mid - late 90's i entered fish into Canadian Sportfishing contests and ended up winning 'Pike Angler of the Year' for all of Canada, a few years in a row, despite hundreds of entrants nationwide, just from a couple of trips down to Toronto Harbour in March. Many dozen and a half fish days with fish between 35 to 42 in. It rocks down there if you time it right. Keep at it we have a special thing there for a brief time. Your posts always bring me a chuckle anyways. Peace, ehg
  9. Nice report and fish. Looks like a fine day there. Thanks for posting. ehg
  10. Thanks for further replies. It certainly was chilly ( 28F w/ a wind chill). That carp was a strange catch since i was targeting brown trout. Usually only get out 2 or 3 times a winter, the north wind and general conditions allowed for more the last month or so. Just happy to get out on the softwater and catch some fish. cheers, ehg
  11. I'm up on the north shore of L. Ontario, not south shore P. Dalhousie way. Like to try there some day.
  12. Some nice fish and good report! Good info on visibilty and baits as well. Thanks for sharing, ehg
  13. Don't watch them anymore (kids, etc) but liked 'Simply Fishing" with Bob Mehsikomer. He always either targeted 50"+ muskies or 50 lbs plus lakers. Always caught decent fish each show. The In-Fisherman and even Fish n' Canada weren't bad back 5-10 yrs. ago.
  14. As i've read here in the past it's good to fish whenever you can, but moon phase, weather condditions, barometer, etc... do affect feeding i've noticed. Good to try to get in the right spot according to the conditions. Looks like you answered your own question. Below 102kpa eh? Have to check that out sometime. ehg
  15. Thanks for replies so far. Can't help but have a good day here at this time however. Kinda like ' fish in barrel' right now. Used the same jointed shad rap for all fish all afternoon. No finessing needed. Personally think the pre-full moon rising caused the carp even to feed actively. Yup, we are blessed here in Ontario to be able to catch many fine species. That is truely the fun. At this spot you never know what is next. Since they closed shoreline access there is virtually little pressure here, saw one other boat out this winter. These fish come by from the big lake and stop for a bite during their travels. It really dies off here in next few weeks as trout head to tribs, but the sheepshead seem to stick around. ehg
  16. Well written report, who needs pictures. That pike looks like a roe laden female, very nice. Don't really wanna guess but must be 15 lbs+ though. Thanks for sharing, ehg
  17. Nice post! It's hard to get a photo of those squirmy things. Looks like a memorable day. No crowds either, thats pretty good. thanks for posting, ehg
  18. Hi, managed to get out for softwater again. Didn't fish for nearly 5 months until about a month ago but went out 4 times in last month to make up for missing out. Soon most species and locations are closed for over a month or so, except some Great Lake streamouths for trout so it was good to get out fishing before relative lull in action again. Caught a variety of fish and took photos so thought i'd share. First few fish of the afternoon were one of my favorite kind, the white bass Also caught these fish which i like, brown trout these fish jump like crazy and fight the best. more These fish are usually plentiful sheepshead This next one was a little odd but not a first caught a predatory carp This fish hit a jointed shad rap. Had them hit rattle traps here before and hit jigs for walleyes in Kawarthas but a fairly rare occurrence. Also caught some OOS bass and walleye i'll add a walleye pic to round out multispecies effect. As soon as the full moon started to rise to the east the fishing died off and called it a day. Also caught some fish that fought for awhile and quite well, but got unhooked before i was able to see them. Not a bad little mixed bag i guess to end the winter season. Can't wait for the spring and summer. It was a tad chilly out there again.
  19. Here is a typical 36 inch March pike from harbour. Mostly roe laden females there. I always thought this fish my buddy caught weighed around 13 - 15 lbs. Little different habitat and time of year than Irishfield skinny pike there. But whatever...
  20. Thanks for posting and the laugh. That's another nice fish. cheers, ehg
  21. Thats an awesome spawn filled female pike. Thanks for sharing that. Along with proper lure choice and location i think your post of the time is most important as you reiterated. Look forward to your posts. I'm up around Harbord/ Bathurst myself, not that i'll get out much with kids and work in way. Good luck with new place. ehg
  22. Forget about the Toronto islands until May. It's all frozen there and doubt the ferries are running. Your best bet would be Frenchmans Bay at the foot of Liverpool Rd sounds like there is a bit of open water there. The lures below are prime early spring/ late winter lures for Lake Ontario shoreline pike. Especially the clown x- rap, perch finish ain't bad either. Had lotsa luck with Rapala husky jerk size 10 or 12's. The lure on this fish worked well for T.O pike last spring. Husky Jerk size 10.
  23. I would concur with those times. Had many multiple fish days for pike in early spring at T.O harbour at lunch time. I guess the sun warms them into activity by that time of day.
  24. Stoty, by posting this comment here i have to go a bit off the thread topic. It seems you have no clue sometimes but a have strong opinion despite lack of experience. Personally i'll take a boat out on L. Ontario but only with extreme caution, foresight and thru experience. Usually i'll have my best fishing ever as a result. This is a fishing board so i'll post results occasionally. Some winters i won't be able to go there as the weather and conditions aren't ever right. Sometimes all the precautions will allow it to get done. Been doing that since you were probably in grade school. I could do nothing and take no risks just sit in front of my computer and whine, but i digress. Taking a vehicle out to whitey grounds has been going on forever with few issues. Cityfisher will probably be more apprehensive in the future.
