  1. Yes it is. Cars were driving out on the ice. Still pretty solid.
  2. This time of the year the main problem is finding open water. This is Leslie Spit from milder year last year on March 31st. Pure ice still. This is Frenchmans Bay 2 days ago. People were ice fishing. But if you find open water the fish could be big and fat. Like the pike i caught late March around noon about 5 yrs. ago in my avatar. good luck, ehg
  3. Dave, we've been lucky that the wind in the right direction when we are both free. Looking forward to that summer musky- bass fishing, i'm tired of this weather.
  4. You probably got within 3 -4 ft. of turtle since its metabolism is down from hibernation and nearly being frozen. Like the picture with the CN Tower. ehg
  5. Nice job fighting and landing that huge pike! Excellent video. ehg
  6. Nice brown there! That fish is still quite 'chrome' wasn't sitting in river all fall , winter. The browns go shallow this time of year looking for food and warmth. cheers, ehg
  7. Live and learn! The main thing is your alive and well, the material stuff can be replaced. No doubt you'll be cautious next time if you try again. ehg
  8. Thanks for replies people! Had a fun day and love fishing so all was good. Maybe the only time i'm hoping to catch a carp (the carp hit lures here) or sheepshead in attempt to get a real mixed bag. But didn't happen. Usually get rainbows as well but not this day. Demphasized the OOS by shrinking photo but left them in for multispecies effect. The plant really produces in mid-winter but action falls off starting April. With no shoreline access there rarely is anyone else there, thus little pressure on spot. Always have a chat with security people and work hard and freeze to do this, but getting to 'shoot fish in barrel' kinda makes it all worth it. Didn't know that fish was a walleye until netted( too dark out). Just knew it had decent size. 'Football walleye' pic doesn't do it justice easily over 30 in. or 10 lbs. Quick photo then release. Doesn't count for anything however. Thanks for replies again, ehg
  9. Hi folks had a little time late Saturday afternoon/ early evening so tried to get out fishing. The lake was flat and winds were to stay light so it was good to go. Ended up having a great day and took some pictures so thought i'd share. Arrived at destination and there was a frozen bay with ice fishermen on one side. and big open lake on other side. Caught some fish immediately. I really like these White Bass, main reason for fishing here. caught more Found fish out deeper in the lake that i wasn't expecting. Like this nice looking unfortunate OOS specimen. It started getting a little cloudy as the sunset. It was then the brown trout started hitting. These fish out here fight like crazy jumping and generally go berzerk. There the sought after fish. This fish jumped numerous times. Fat like a football. more Since it became dark and chilly we decided to leave. Caught this fish then left. Some hard work and foresight ended up paying off with a decent few hours of fishing Might not do this again till next December. Oh well, Cest la vie Cheers, ehg
  10. Just wait until May, June, July etc.... the fishing posts almost border on overkill. Johnny Bass will make a re-appearence as well! You'll be praying for non- fishing posts at that time.
  11. Those are unreal snow piles Lungelarry, where north of Montreal are those pics from? Seems like a big storm from 6 inches in Dallas through 2 feet in Ohio, Ontario , Quebec out to northern Maine. Wow!
  12. Voted for Shall/ Booth/Farm etc.. Good bass fishing, some pike there and trout in Booth. Can even access Opeongo through Booth. Smoke/Ragged etc is good for bass with brookies in S. Porcupine. The best Algonquin fishing has to be Petawawa R. from L.Travers to McManus however. Non- stop smallies, channel cats, even chance at walleye and musky. Hope that hleps, ehg
  13. A pre- blizzard downtown pike with blood. That's pretty hardcore. The pike are chunky down there this time of year. Nice fish and thanks for laugh. ehg
  14. Thats an incredible huge walleye! Congrats on a once in a lifetime fish. (maybe there is more for you though) Always went to mouth of Talbot R. on Simcoe in last week of March to get big 'pickies'. Ended up getting my PB of over 16 lbs. there over 10 yrs. ago. I've seen near 20 lbs. fish coming off the ice there caught by locals. With the season now closed March 15th on Simcoe it really protects these fish around the Talbot. Always swore there was world record walleye in Simcoe. Now with the new season its like finding a needle in 100 haystacks. Congrats on that huge and rare walleye from Simcoe. ehg
  15. Again thanks for further replies! Had alot of fun, thought i'd share the pictures. If the winds are right and we are free we will go, bud. ehg

Listened to '10,000 Days' for first time in over year the other day. Real amazing band. "Rosetta Stoned' is my fave song. Great stuff!
  17. An epic report! So many good things in your report it would take awhile just to respond fully or completely. Thanks for the effort and congrats on the great summer work. cheers, ehg
  18. Thanks for replies folks! There was a wind chill , felt warmer as the winds eased. Usually the bite is good at sunset/sunrise but the bite was midday this time due to onshore winds the days before creating turbidity lowering the visibility. Nice to be trolling, casting and catching fish in the winter here. Gonna do it again when possible. All fish were caught on medium sized shad Rattlin Raps. My buddy had the same lure on from start to finish. cheers, ehg
  19. Had some free time today and luckily my friend Dave did aswell, with north-nortwest winds it was safe to head out to spot on Lake Ontario. I've been here maybe 50 times in last 15 yrs. its tough going but kinda addictive. Many different species to be caught and the nice fish keep you coming back. White bass were on today caught quite a few on shad coloured Rattlin Raps. My buddy Dave caught the nicer ones. Then the Browns started hitting and we caught a bunch. Nothing large unfortunately. Here's some pics of similar sized brown trout nice little fighters that jump , almost better scrappers than bass. More browns were caught of similar size plus sheepshead and OOS smallmouth. Nice way to spend a few hours a little chilly out though. cheers, ehg
  20. Sounds like a strong recovery is on the way. Your daughter seems like a real trooper. Gives you a chance to continue being a proud yet more relaxed father. Great news, ehg
  21. Sounds like a real amazing day! Those are real amazing fish especially the 14 lber. In the 90's walleye's thru the ice at Quinte was my favorite fishing. It died down in the early 2000's but looks to be coming back! Have to head down there next winter! Great fish, ehg

    finally!!

Some nice fish there. Good to see some softwater fishing, its been a long winter so far. Thanks for sharing! ehg
  23. Nice fish congrats! Good to see some softwater reports now. Thanks for sharing, ehg
  24. Thanks again for further replies! Mikeh, sunrise or sunset are best time since the sun and clear water make them spooky during the day. Being a warm water outflow it draws fish from big lake between late Nov. until April. Medium sized Shad Raps and Rattlin' Raps in blu/slv/org have worked the best there for last 15+ yrs. cheers, ehg
  25. Thanks for replies! Just wanted to share this experience. Fishindevil, likewise its usually the best fish catching i've had in my life. Have done these reports a few times before, but i always post with trepidation. I really advise against trying this type of fishing. One little problem with engine or winds, currents etc could be your demise. This sign over my shoulder explains it clearly. Had a great time despite the hard work and ever present fear. ehg
