  1. We all make mistakes and would help this and other boaters out all day everyday, but what I find disturbing was their lack of preparedness. I mean, do they even know what they need to legally have on board ? That they resorted to waving their arms in the air shows a lack of boater smarts imo.
  2. So it sounds like they were technically illegal if they didn't have proper safety aboard their boat like sounding devices or flares. Not letting other boaters off but a 31' boat should have in date flares, an air horn etc..I'd have smoke on board if I had a craft that large. and at least a marine vhf. sorry but they don't sound like responsible boaters to me.
  3. Two things. TPS have obviously not learned how to deal with people with mental health issues (see Edmond Yu)/ He was obviously not mentally fit to be an officer (imo) if he couldn't wait for a commanding officer to arrive with the taser and no other officer seemed particularly concerned such as he was and one officer in fact holstered her service revolver. He should NEVER wear a badge ever again. He's not even fit to be a mall cop.
  4. great pics ! man that looked like a great quick getaway, will need to come along next time. I'll make jerk chicken on the coleman oven as well. I love solitude but always cool to one across paddlers from a tripping camp. also a few of those rapids I'd love to run in my play boat
  5. and I thought building my outdoor shower with change room was a masterpiece lol. this cabin build is totally off the charts ! shades of Dick Proenneke
  6. This is not necessarily a similar situation but it does offer some insight to the power dynamics in one particular prison, vis a vis enforcement officers and those incarcerated. While this is a private facility, I would presume *some* federal facilities would be similar. http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/06/cca-private-prisons-corrections-corporation-inmates-investigation-bauer
  7. thanks Art, always good to have a perspective from down there.
  8. I think this is definitely more endemic to the US and not Canada. Yeah we have some problems (two major RCMP shootings by lone wolf nut jobs) but nowhere near what is happening down there. The class struggle and racial divide is becoming very polarising and I'm fearful that the gulf is going to become such that it will never be bridged and indeed form a greater chasm across society. I've been to the US during certain events of historical magnitude and it was very easy to see things sliding down the abyss if events create the right conditions for something to happen. Not saying it will but imo, it won't take much for everything to go south. and quickly. What our friends down there need are for the people to step back, cool down and use their grey matter to look at the big picture as I'm sure those who DO want to do ill will are sitting back rubbing their hands in glee.
  9. this question for our friends in the US (Art et al). So it's been reported that Philando Castile told the officer that he was carrying and had a license which he was going get out of his pocket. It's also been reported (whether this is true or not I have no idea) that gun owners who are carrying are drilled to tell LEOs that they have a gun in their possession, that they have a license for the gun and that they will show the license to give to said officer. If LEO was wearing a camera, then it should help clear up what happened but imo, when there's a child in the car, he's a passenger AND he says he's in possession and has a license, then chances are he's not going to do harm. A gang banger would just draw and take his chances. Utterly tragic and you can see the officer instantly regretted his decision. Regardless, this has been a brutal week for LEOs and others. The Dallas shooting is absolutely chilling in that this was planned and carried out in the space of what ? 48 hrs ? I hope saner and cooler heads prevail and that this really isn't the start of the devolution of American society.
  10. Will you be on town water and sewage ? you're a stone's throw from Eugenia and not far from Flesherton so would be nice. Otherwise I highly recommend drilled wells vs dug and definitely over lake water.
  11. well you had 16 great years on the water, an opportunity I passed over years ago and still regret. Your new place will allow more and different adventures, esp when you get the diesel pusher (r u still getting an rv ?) and hit the blacktop savour this last summer Cliff !
  12. how do you NOT realise your boat has come off the trailer ??
  13. great report and also great photos ! dare I say it was an epic road trip ?
  14. nope, I tend to be pacifist but I think they should rot in prison, always looking over their shoulder wondering if someone is going to shank them. and that they get put in general population instead of protective like bernardo.
  15. not cold blooded nor merciless. millard is basically pure evil personified imo. pure evil, the likes of which we haven't seen since bernardo and homolka
  16. and leave some fish for the rest of us still waiting to take our vacations
  17. yup. been there, got the t-shirt. sloppy technique/ form casting pike flies. brutal, took a while to recover fully. I'd think stretching before and after a long day on the water is a good self care regimen.
  18. problem with the French as crown land is that it's a provincial park so there are fees involved. it's worth the fees imo whether it's up top on nipissing or down but the Bay.
  19. ok people, digest this tid bit. An off duty POLICE OFFICER working security at the club, and who would have extensive firearms training, WASN'T able to stop this guy. and there are some who suggest armed patrons would have ? smh...
  20. that dude is lucky not to have had a concussion. momentum, feet first arc = head slam.
  21. If you can come with equitable time sharing on the cottage, I'd go that route as the investment will be worth it imo. If it's large enough, perhaps look into adding another cottage or bunkie. Like trailer parks, see who's around you as that could be a deal breaker if you don't have good neighbours. Sounds like Viking's in a pretty sweet park
  22. Accuweather. Intellicast for their radar
  23. his sunnybrook doc said it best when he said and I paraphrase liberally, "that money or fame etc can't buy your way out of this situation" after referencing Joe Biden's son and other well known people to have brain cancer. peace be with Gord and his family my fav Hip song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE2joQsWXJg.
  24. Man when we get another prolonged blackout in the winter it's gonna be a major clusterbuster if we're all electric heat. gas furnaces run if you have a small genny to power them and if you have 12v, even better. what's next ? gas stoves ?
