on the contrary, you think Caledonia is/was bad ? that would be a tea party compared to what would happen if you got your way.

I'm always for long drives but flying will give you two days to play. Get the earliest flight out and latest flight back if two weeks is the max you have I'd drive if I had more than two weeks but I've driven out that way before so don't have to see it all..

kinda going off topic. why has no manufacturer, afaik, used biometrics as a security measure ? would this prevent most of these thefts from happening ?
-
Considering the current ice situation, this is a great thing you're doing Big Cliff !

There's lots of talk here but honestly, would anyone here have the guts to pull the trigger and end a life, in this particular situation as we know it ? I've had my car broken into enough times but I would never entertain the thought of swinging a Louisville at the lowlifes because I can't determine what the outcome of a swing/swings will be. That's a risk I'm not prepared to take. I'll call the cops and choose to not complicate my life any further. If they break into my home and there's a threat to life, you can bet I'm prepared to be the last man standing.

if you find yourself in Moncton for a day or two, go to Tide and Boar, great food and excellent beer menu. If you have extra cash lying around, Five Fisherman in Halifax would be a spot I'd hit. You can't go east and not visit Cape Breton. I'd go clockwise. West side is where the music lives but I preferred the east side (Ingonish). Camp if you can. Get lobster off the boat that just came in and toss it in a pot, nothing better !

Nope, totally agree with you Steve. There was no imminent threat to life so he should have called the cops, even if truck was long gone. Sorry but there are consequences for discharging a firearm and he's now looking at it. A very quick decision has affected two lives, and more, if he had family.

dude shld never drive ever again.never. who knows how many times he rolled the dice and won ? and he will be kept safe in prison, of that I'm sure. family shld sue the beejeezus out of him. three young lives were wiped off this earth and there's no penalty that is enough for him imo.

When we got our cabin, the wood stove was not to WETT code so presume previous owners didn't bother to insure the place. Got someone to look at it and it just needed a different elbow here and some fireproof backing board on the wall. If the previous owners lit any decent fire, the wood panelling behind it would have gotten VERY ho to the point of will it light up. Place is now safe and insured. Now the chimney at our city home was going to need work according to the sweep we use and who used to do WETT certifications. Got another guy to have a look and he confirmed first guy's deco. Googled our liner issue and it was indeed a known issue and hazard so there goes a bunch of Gs up in smoke. Again, peace of mind is wonderful motivator lol. -
river ice fishing safety, close call
woodenboater replied to manitoubass2's topic in General Discussion
holy crap, glad you're here to post this warning. Good on you for having the foresight to wear the floater suit and bring spikes. I'll bet your wife gave you an earful after she hugged you long and close. The ice that truly scares the hell out of me is river ice. Lakes usually don't have much current but river ice ? the river is always smoking downstream. stay safe everyone -

Jan 21 Ice Report South Side Kempenfelt
woodenboater replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
very good video Steve. that's minimal black ice covered by crap ice, looks pretty bad. hopefully people will see the lack of tracks and turn around and try another day. looks like it could be a short hard water season. -
Shooting takes 5 lives, our side of the boarder. NF
woodenboater replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Police are making sure they have all the info before they speak to the media. Place was locked down for along time so they had to make sure they had all the necessary information when they faced the press. PM was answering question asked by the media pool that follow him on every trip. I don't see anything strange about this. The shooter is not dead so hopefully they can find out why he went on a rampage. A shooting like this in a small community will reverberate for some time as people heal and come to grips with what happened today. -
Pretty well every home in Nunavut has guns so the RCMP don't need more data. When caribou are spotted, sleds are fired up and gone, youth and adults. Not the most happy time if they come back empty-handed.

they need to rethink the entire fan balloting thing. that scott got in because imo, people were making him a joke, is kind of sad. nhl should pick a wide field of players, then let fans choose from that or else this is going to happen next yer. guaranteed.

re: Valu Village. young hipsters have discovered it as a source for cheap, hidden gems so not surprised to hear prices have creeped. is it the sole reason, probably not. Some of the locations are in expensive digs. Their store on Queen St. East near Broadview would not be inexpensive I would guess. I wouldn't be surprised if the landlords jacked up rent to drive them out. The one on Overlea Blvd in Toronto is sitting pretty on what I believe will be the next big developed area. Lots of space and close to the DVP. Gonna happen, just a matter of when and how it's developed (mixed income housing would be ideal).

yeah, was very cool that they could see the gar gumming the minnow. right. below. the. gunwale.

I'm not crying over his exclusion. Should not have gotten to that point in the first place. The All Star game *should* be the best/ most popular players in the league and that Scott *could* have taken the spot from a more deserving player doesn't sit well with me. The fans who voted him in are idiots imo and probably the same fans who don't have a problem with how Bettman is running the NHL (horribly imo).

cool video ! never thought I'd read about someone catching and releasing a bull shark here lol. that shark woulda put your team over the top here -
Staples should have security camera recordings of most if not aisles. let's hope they don't scrub them. They have insurance for a reason and u def should not be out of pocket due to their negligence. A different type of fall could have been worse. Don't be afraid to take them to task Cliff

World Juniors - Canada's play so far
woodenboater replied to lhousesoccer's topic in General Discussion
fwiw, I'd sooner see Olympic style hockey (more end to end with some hits) that features more skillful passing and skating vs the usual physicality at all costs 'cuz canadians giv'r' mentality. and I'll be the first to admit that what clarke did to Kharlamov's ankle was absolutely disgusting. that's not my hockey and not how I want our games to be remembered. ymmv -
World Juniors - Canada's play so far
woodenboater replied to lhousesoccer's topic in General Discussion
no, more a conspiracy theory if they let their juniors go to Europe but held ours back it's kind of like the NHL and the Olympics, there's nothing in it for them financially and I can see them killing participation at some point.
