World Juniors - Canada's play so far

semi OT but I wish the NHL had mandated all new rinks to be Olympic size. Other than the Mastercard Centre, where else is there an Olympic rink in Canada ? This might have given our boys a leg up getting used to wide open space. -
This may sound very unusual but if you have open water nearby, take them there and instinct will take over. Knew a guy who had a Newf that was a rescue (abused and really withdrawn). Took it for a walk near water and as soon as pooch saw water, in it went and it opened up after that. Newfs are bred for the water so take it there. can't hurt...good luck

I don't see us retaining this year. Not an auspicious start to say the least... -
if we ever get snow, I expect to see more vids of him redlining his sled lol

yeah, I don't think Conor can keep up with Frankie's insane pace. I just wish he would be more respectful, I might hop on the train if he were lol

I go to mmafighting or bloodyelbow for live blogs of ppv fights. I'm not enough of a 'just bleed' fan to pay for that lol.

afaik, you could photograph or video anyone in public as there's no expectation of privacy. quebec is a different kettle of fish fwiu. I try to be polite but if people get in my face, they get one or two chances at being nice before I give back same attitude. they can pound sand basically. don't want to be photographed ? stay inside. one exception is kids. unless I know them, they're off limits.

DFW is a d-bag, all he cares about is $$$ and I wouldn't be surprised if Frankie got the Tate treatment. There WILL be a Aldo/MacGregor II before Frankie gets a crack at the belt. DFW criticised Herb for letting Ryan Hall keep Lobov's back mount. He should be dropping Lobov off the roster for basically doing f-all during the fight. I think Hall has sick jitz skills and would like to see him matched up with a similar styled fighter. I love me some good grappling action with non stop transitions and sub attempts (like Ferguson...)

like Zingano vs Rousey lol BOOM ! not a fan of The Notorious but he's got heavy hands. Best fight this week was Ferguson vs Barbosa.

This all falls on Ed Rogers' doorstep. He didn't have the stones to stick up for AA when it came down to the brass tacks, which he should have. I think Toronto Life did a profile of Eddy and his wife and it wasn't the most flattering piece but probably was close to the truth from what I know and have heard.

Finally - My Magazine Is Launched!! (And A Question)

Definitely embargo your stories from online viewing for several months at least. I would also suggest only one from each issue. If too many free reports are out there, then subscribers might very well be ok with waiting a couple of months or whatever the embargo period is. it might also mean posting only a few photos vs what you're doing now with your trip reports. Once it becomes a business, you need to make sure the paid subscribers are getting their money's worth and seeing paid content online might not make them happy. Good luck and I'm sure you'll find the happy place where everyone is good. -
Will never happen. We don't fear our government like some militias in the states do. We may hate their policies etc but in general, we don't worry about them turning on its citizens. Same with England, Australia etc.. ymmv

I see this as a prioritization of who *really* needs our help so obviously women and children go to the head of the line. Families will include dads so it's not like men are being totally shut out. Just single men who probably aren't in need as much as others. As well, CSIS and the RCMP have no problems with bringing in refugees other than how they'll be processed in a timely and secure manner.

afaik, and this is talking with people at Darlington, is that you can fish the waters all you want but if you set even one toe on their property, then things get serious. I'd guess people have no idea what security they have hidden behind the walls. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by what I saw...

I'm glad the gov't didn't give any bailout money to Bombardier.

then there's this story about resettling refugees in Canada. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/rcmp-csis-support-trudeaus-plan-to-resettle-25000-syrian-refugees/article27342588/

^ this is the key no matter what side of the spectrum you're on. only when one is fully informed can one make decisions (unlike 2003 Iraq).

dropping bombs is only feeding the MIC and making a few people filthy rich. This is a result of trying to win the pr war by not bringing soldiers back for repatriation. War by game console if you really wanna be crude. There was a story about how the French work in theatre and it was a fascinating read. Will dig up the link. can't find the link. long story short. the French send in small units of elite fighters into very risky situations (situations others might not consider worth the risk), often times with no extraction likely. they know the players on the ground and who to trust. they get in, do the job and gtfo. they don't try to stabilise or prop up governments. they do enough to meet their objectives. iow, very efficient use of manpower. they have a much smaller army so need to be economical with force. no shock and awe campaigns, well except for raqqa.

Oh those countries should definitely get their hands dirty and some posit that the West should pull back outright and let them deal with it since the Saudis may have their fingerprints all over ISIL , Al Qaeda etc.. There are some fights we should be shoulder to shoulder with our allies and this is one. I agree with sending in trainers vs air power. I guess my comment about others coming to our aid was more hyperbole but imo, the US will come to our aid IF it's in their interest and considering we have the longest unprotected border in the world ( I believe) , that's more than likely. Will the fight come to Canada ? Maybe, hard to say, I think the fact that we're not a major player is a factor (less pr worthy) but who knows what the ISIL brain trust is thinking ? Regardless, there needs to be more creative thinking behind how we deal with non traditional enemies that don't respond to having snakeheads lopped off. Following the oil trail is a good start...

The problem re: Syria, as I see it, is that there is no 'better' side in that equation. On one side are ISIL, we're all in agreement about them. On the other side is Syria, who crush opposition to Assed, they gas their own people etc.. Do we really have to choose between the lesser of two evils ? There is no easy answer to this but we can't sit back and let others get dirty in the trenches. If we stay home while everyone else takes the fight to them, then chances are, they'll be not so inclined to help us when the time comes. This is not Iraq 2003 where we were right not to take part, but blowback from that invasion.

a bit of turmoil in her camp/ bad strategy but also Holm has cred. rousey should have been patient and waited. when she couldn't get the takedown, she got flustered. I mean she had holm in a weird position but couldn't convert to her trademark arm bar. so part of me thinks she's an extremely talented one trick pony who got exposed. I think holm takes the rematch as it shows she can handle the clinch and can also throw people down. jackson probably spent lots of time drilling escapes/sweeps into holm's toolkit.
