Newsworld or Newsnet was just talking about this very topic Bigugli. the guest (an MP) explained that while we do have refineries here, there's really no competition between them since there are few compared to the Gulf,so the prices are what they are. He didn't call it collusion or price fixing but I would. and pump prices go up faster than the states as well because of this.

Have friends who regularly paddle Superior so a canoe can be fine, *IF* you have the chops. The Prospector is a stable canoe if you know how to swivel at the hips. Keep a very close eye on the wind and get off the water before it ratchets up. If it were me, even if I was lit up like the CNE, I'm not sure I would trust other boaters to be paying attention, so I would probably skip the Credit.

will be a great day when cars move beyond dino on a mass scale that can be supported by charging stations. leave those oil thieves to rot in a hot place.

I've gotten into smallmouth on a few lakes on the west side of the park (my fav part of The Park). Hear there's pike on the Petawawa downstream of Travers.

Bird's nest untangling itself ? huh

awesome tip, thanks ! I do have the tool to pick at the nest but was too lazy to get it and tbh, never used it yet haha -
Bird's nest untangling itself ? huh
woodenboater replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
yeah, I pulled on the line a few times but figured I better not make it tighter. Perhaps flinging the Rapala had enough torque to clear it, dunno But def gonna try to remember that thumb trick ! btw, was a Power Pro nest -
So managed to squeeze in a few minutes fishing during a trip through Quetico Park last week (group was making miles so little time to fish) and forgot to adjust the cast control on the Curado. Ended up with an ugly bird's nest, which I couldn't be bothered picking apart since I had another rod with me. Someone else then needed a rod so I lent them the spinning and went back to the nest. It would only cast short distances but somehow, the nest untangled itself after a few casts and all was good. Saved me a job. Has this ever happened to anyone else or were the fishing gods taking pity on me ? re:fishing - the Cranking Rap enticed a pike but it shook the hook (only barbless allowed in Quetico). Got a smallie as well but it was its namesake...small

sorry but the twelve year old in me was thinking like beavis and butthead lol

honest question. how much do fishermen spend in town ? I'm guessing not much because if we did, they'd probably weigh this vs the loss of revenue. Like many things, I think it's based on incoming $$. anyways, spend where they welcome fishermen/women.

and the stroke is more punching out the hand vs pulling. pulling = very sore muscles. and have fun, kayak fishing is extremely popular

What is Wrong with People.....Updated Good Guys Win
woodenboater replied to FloatnFly's topic in General Discussion
I really wouldn't worry about it too much. There are a ton of lakes in The Park and most people aren't willing to hump their gear more than a couple of well marked portages. Take a deer trail to an unnamed lake and yer golden but make sure you have a good topo and compass lol -

yup. make him hump his gear to another lake. but it better be a slow producing lake lol -
If indeed you have never seen ice and the probability of it occurring are basically zilch, I would do as Big Cliff and others suggest, and use feet on the bottom of your posts. Leaves more options down the road vs posts sunk into the river bed. and while I'm usually of the forgiveness vs permission in many cases, when it comes to federal agencies, I prefer to stack the deck in my favour and not roll the dice, esp since if it's a federal waterway. As well, if it ever came to pass that the park owner did the work, they could be in for a world of misery, in spite of what he suggests. ymmv

centre lane hogs is all I'll say. not as bad as left lane turtles but still...

So the take away, in the end, is that we're all going to stop posting TR's on social media unless it's a very well known area that everyone and their mother, knows about. -

Chainsaw fuel line... theres gotta be a trick..
woodenboater replied to tb4me's topic in General Discussion
curious. how old is J'red and did the fuel lines go because of ethanol ? I try to run premium gas (Stabiled) in my Husqvarna but also have cans of TruFuel around if I'm feeling lazy I'll also need to sharpie this wire trick onto the saw case lol -
awesome story and the other boat played it very cool and politely and if that was my local, I'd feel the same. asking u to tie off was the icing on the cake. wish more people were like that imo

Thinking of buying a fishing lodge....need help!
woodenboater replied to birddogman99's topic in General Discussion
I may be wrong, but I think the MAP is going the way of the dodo as most, including me, prefer housekeeping and our own meal schedule. Depending on size of water, a 14' shld be fine but a 16 would be more practical. Pull or electric start is a coin toss. Drive to lodge would be more attractive if others in the party want something else to do beside washing lures. Or go grocery shopping. or beer run. you get the picture. Imho, this is more than a summer venture as it requires work pre-season opener and post. As was suggested, visit a variety of lodges and see how their operations run and what owning a lodge really entails. good luck ! -
I'd be tempted to lay the rods down and proceed to have a noisy lunch. a very long and noisy lunch. I also really don't want them seeing what I'm using either, they can pound sand.

Walleye stocking in Toronto Harbour
woodenboater replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
never fished the inner harbour but last time I was on the water, weed growth was pretty good so there's gotta be some giants hiding in that green stuff. if pickerel do establish themselves, I worry about overfishing and/or poaching
