Never a fan of Walmart for groceries, especially meat. I object to being charged a fixed price for a package of something when I don't know how much is in there or how much per pound they are charging. Another rant while I am on a roll is bought a package of peameal bacon from a supermarket. I weighed it at home and within a very small margin of error the weight was right on. However, when I opened it there was a thick wad of packaging underneath the meat soaked in what I believe was water. I weighed it at 5oz!! Since moving out into a small community we have embraced the local butcher, baker and produce stands. Great (much superior) quality, no unnecessary packaging and prices not much higher than the supermarket. Rant over..๐

Don't worry about dressing that fly too much Brian. If it sinks so be it. I caught some of my best fish with a sinking dry fly. -

I tied pretty much exclusively 16 and 18 for browns in smaller rivers and streams. Started off with 12 and 14 when I first started fly fishing and doubled my hookups when I when significantly smaller. -

Can't really help on the lack of smallies but this is a pretty good read on the history of the lake .. http://quinteconservation.ca/site/images/stories/water/studies/east_lake/el_sol.pdf -
Hi guys and gals. Anyone know if these are worth anything. I have had them for ever and don't remember ever fishing them.

Firstly, I don't think that race, religion, creed, sex or young people has anything to do with this thread. The OP was sharing an article about long term care homes and the issues surrounding some of them. We too have first hand knowledge of these facilities and I need to say that they are not all the same. To be honest, sadly, in these places you get what you pay for. Granted not everyone can afford $4 or $5k a month in their "golden years". There are different levels of care depending on the mental and physical state of the senior in question. They range from retirement communities to assisted living to long term care involving nursing and memory care. From what I have seen it is the nursing and memory care facilities that are the focus of the current problems. Sadly, these issues have been around for many years and have just come to the attention of the news media because of Covid-19. Abuse, neglect and lack of care have been with us forever. Hopefully we will see some massive changes and the principals of these homes in question will have their feet held to the fire to make make major changes in the quality of care. Canada, is a great county and I am proud to call it home. Unfortunately we do not take care of our seniors. We can learn a lot from Scandinavian and indeed many European countries.

I stopped watching them probably 10# years ago. The non stop sponsor plugging was annoying but the non stop hootin' and hollerin' was worse..๐

I grew up close to a river with many species. Browns, grayling in the Winter and lots of what we would call coarse fish in UK. I was float fishing with centrepin before it became sexy. I learned how to fly fish from an old Fin, wish I had kept in touch. Dad wasn't a big fisherman so I learned by doing from a very early age and reading and hanging out at the tackle shops in town. I became more interested in sea fishing as I grew up in my teen years. Casting into the North Sea from piers and off the beaches from Nov through maybe March (when the Cod came inshore and the big tides ran). My uncle had an old converted life boat on which he spent countless hours re-fitting and re-powering. He bought an auxiliary engine, reported to be from Hitlers yacht, probably urban legend, and installed it. the 35' boat was so overpowered that we could only run about 1/4 throttle. We fished the wrecks for cod. Followed a girl to Canada in the early 70's and settled down, got a real job and raised a family. Lost my mojo a few years ago and sold my boat and most of my gear. Starting to get it back in my retirement years and may go back to it. Not sure if I will replace the boat. My love is river fishing, BUT, I like solitude so if I had to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of the Spring and Fall guys I would go insane and would probably end up in jail...lol.

The outbreaks everywhere outside of Wuhan is through travel, mostly air!

RPW, firstly I feel your pain and that of most on this forum. I don't think that the severity of the situation has actually sunk in yet. Many members here and/or their loved ones fall into the category of at risk of severe or fatal repercussions. Opening up boat ramps is not the answer. Staying at home and sucking it up is! We are still not getting it.......construction projects still business as usual. Furniture stores like Leons and The Brick still open, go figure!. Cannabis stores still open with social gatherings outside. Some still using Timmies and McD drive throughs and then socializing in the parking lot. Until a unified national effort is in place with ALL non essential services closed and only essential inter-provincial travel (trucks) allowed, this will get MUCH worse, quickly. I can only hope that I am very wrong and say hi to many of you on the water during 2020.

Nice, keep those great memories alive.

I agree 100%. If it was a choice between reusable pods and the same coffee in bodum there is no contest. The bodum wins every time. I only use Timothy's Extra Dark pods in my Keurig and put it on strong setting.

Ya know that stuff will kill you right?

Don't think I have bought a drive through anything for along time. 50% of the time they got it wrong and I would have to go inside to get it corrected anyway. Unfortunately brain cells are not plentiful in many Timmies, McD's and even Starbuck's employees...

It's all in the coffee Chris. I am very particular what pods I use. Most are rubbish and don't have enough coffee in them. Yes, french press is also good and use it often. Again the type of coffee, the grind and its freshness all contribute to great java. I like water just off the boil.

In these hard times what about the Fishing lodge operators?

What he says..... -
To answer your question, Keurig all the way. Takes less time than drive through and costs about 1/5th of the cost of a Timmies..

โSelect restaurants may continue to offer take-out service in communities where there are specific needs, including locations near hospitals and healthcare facilities,โ says a letter , President and CEO of Tim Hortons Restaurants of Canada. This makes a heck of a lot of sense!!!
