  1. Yep stupid undisciplined penalties!
  2. Most who know me well are aware of my political views so I won't elaborate here. I am not a hunter, nor do I understand the excitement of the hunt. Having said that, I have many friends (Canadian, American and those across the pond), who are and I respect their rights and desires. Most hunt deer. moose, fowl or other game where the meat is consumed. This, in my humble opinion, honours and respects the life of the animal. I have had some quite heated but civilized "discussion" with those that hunt for the rush of the kill and of course the trophy that (sometimes) is displayed for all to see. We live in a country where hunting is and has been a way of life for generations as a means of survival. I guess I question our detour from hunter gatherer to those that kill for the rush. These are strictly my comments and opinion and not in any way intended to invoke argument or criticize.
  3. Hi Doug. Go down the the bottom of the page and select theme and change to default. Should give you a white background.
  4. Sorry guys, I don't get on here much anymore but had to put my 2 cents worth on this one. In my humble opinion this thread has nowhere to go but down the proverbial toilet. Just sayin.....
  5. Hard braking every now and again will help. I see a lot of vehicles where pads and rotors were replaced say 10K ago at another shop and come in with calipers seized. A lot of shops will just slap a set of pads and rotors on and not do a caliper service. In some cases these brakes will fail prematurely. Make sure that the shop that you use services and lubes calipers as part of a brake job. In my humble opinion it is worth having a brake service (inspection and service, not necessarily replacement) done once a year as part of an oil change service and general inspection, in many cases your brakes will almost double their life depending on how and where you drive.
  6. Would love to be there Cliff but Saturdays at this time of year are crazy for me.
  7. The other "green" issue that I have Art is that E vehicles use more energy and fossil fuels to produce than a regular internal combustion propelled vehicle. I addition I don't think we have even scratched the surface of the problems with battery disposal and recycling moving forward. I have said for some time that passenger vehicles are much much less of an emission issue than the millions of commercial vehicles, trains, aircraft, container ships and cruise ships that don't have any emissions standards or controls....
  8. Congrat's Peter! I was wondering where you had gone. I love it out there and only wish I could make the move too. Wishing you all the best and happy times ahead. Are you planning on getting involved with coast guard?
  9. Maybe a little more information would help. Budget, new or pre-owned, full console and top, power etc? Sometimes this topic is a little like the Ford, Chevy, Dodge debate. You will get lots of opinions. Go out and look at many, reduce it down to a few based on your personal criteria and then do a little more research/ask questions to narrow it down to one or two. Good luck, John
  10. If you just need the rims and not the tires they will be fine, assuming you are confident that the bolt pattern is correct. If they are good tires keep them or resell them. the only difference is the height. The second number 55 or 65 is the aspect ratio meaning that the height is either 65% or 55% of the tire width...PM me if you have any other questions..
  11. Still a popular up sell here Art. $5.00 a tire. Many unscrupulous shops are putting fear into their customers that they can not put air in their tires after they are inflated with nitrogen! I explain to as many as 5-10 customers a week that good old generic air with its 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen is just fine.........but some still like the pretty green dust caps that they put on their valves..
  12. I shared the information with Kelvin.
  13. Well thanks Art but Bernie has perhaps 10 times the knowledge and experience that I do. I am just a little troubled when mis-information and innuendo is thrown around here just to stimulate so called passionate discussion. If we look at the threads that get locked there is one thing in common, "passionate discussion" by the same members. Is life really that boring? I stand by what I said and if anyone has a legitimate question about servicing your vehicle I would be happy to answer it by PM.
  14. Didn't want to get into this thread but lot's of heresay and mis-information thrown around. I don't want to get into a debate on the state of the auto service industry but if anyone wants to ask a real question or in need an honest answer PM me. If I don't have answer I will find it for you..
  15. Mod's please let me know if this is not allowed but figured I would see if anyone here was interested in an Apprenticeship... Busy, modern, clean and safe 7 bay shop in Milton looking to fill two positions - - First or second year registered 310S Apprentice. - Experienced Lube and Tire Tech leading to Apprenticeship. Willing to sponsor the right person as an apprentice after probationary period. Both positions offer competitive wages with opportunity for bonus for the right individuals. Benefit package available. These are very good long term career opportunities for the right person(s). Please let me know if you are interested in either position (or know anybody that might be interested). 16. True, but with no mortgage you could whip the place into shape the first year and probably break even. With a quick calculation of occupancy needed to cover operating costs.........well ya know but now it's hindsight and ancient it's ancient history..
  17. What were the terms of the loan(s)? I assume you had to commit to certain covenants? I think that unless the terms were too restrictive I might have swallowed hard and pulled the trigger...
  18. Hi Birddogman and welcome. A lot of us on this site have had experience at different lodges, camps and remote outpost cabins. My initial thought is think about the amount of work both in season and off season and multiply it by 3 or 4 and then you might have an idea of what is involved. The off season work is often longer hours and more involved than in season. Docks, cabins, boats all need maintenance and that's assuming you buy a turnkey operation that needs little work to begin with. As Art says we have seen a lot. From operators that do little or nothing in maintenance and slowly lose business until the light goes on and they realize that they no longer have a viable operation, to those that spend countless hours 12 months a year improving and marketing their operation. Repeat clientele...is really up to you. Again, we have seen operations that were failing badly be taken over and within 2-3 years have large repeat business with clients booking for the next year when they check out. AP appeals to a smaller percentage of the population and the work involved to provide it is large, unless you are a masochistic chef... . I love cedar strip boats, the way they handle etc, BUT they involve a large amount of work to maintain. Most lodges and camps are changing over to 16' aluminums. Don't want to sound negative in any way. This was a dream of mine many years ago but my head had to rule my heart at the time. You will need to dedicate yourself to it 24/7 to make it work, unless of course you are independently wealthy and are just looking for a hobby. Good luck in whatever you decide.
  19. I am seeing this more and more...Does MNR not have the ability to ask the 10 to stay where they are and check them after he wrote up the first guy?
