Lots of interest in Spring Rock Lew. But, they have a waiting list longer than my arm...🙂 -
Seasonal Campgrounds with decent fishing and boating
John replied to John's topic in General Discussion
Yes I have been in touch with Deer Lake. I believe you can access Vernon and then of course Mary, Fairy etc etc.. -
We are considering trying a seasonal campground to park the trailer for a year or two. It must have decent fishing, prefer walleye, pike, bass and good access to larger lake systems. Prefer Kawarthas but would consider Haliburton and maybe Muskoka if it's Huntsville area. Any suggestions, recommendations? It seems as though it's a tough find these days. Thanks, John

I think it's roughly between Sauble and Owen Sound..

It was a teen fishermans dream Brian. Could walk to the river that I fished almost every day or catch the train and be at the beach in 20. Winters could be an adventure with rivers rising so fast that you could be fishing the eddys one minute from dry land and the have water past your ankles the next. The beaches and piers could be dangerous with big tides...lots of fun though.

Lower French can be tough fishing this time of year especially walleye. It's been 10 years or so since I fished it. As I remember it the run in from 69 to Hartley Bay can be tough on vehicles and boat trailers. Should be lots of weed growth. Watch it outside the channels as the rocks bite hard.

Good morning to you too. Haven't fished seriously for quite a few years now, seemed to lose my mojo, like another good friend on here. Starting to get the itch again so who knows what the future holds. I grew up in England close to the coast and in an area where I was spoiled for choice as far as where to wet a line. In Spring, Summer and Fall I would chase Browns and Salmon in the many rivers close by. In the Winter I would fish Grayling and more often fish off the beach or piers for Cod. Sadly most of the Cod have gone, at least in the numbers there used to be and most of the Trout and Salmon waters have been taken over by private clubs. I would like to get back into fly and float fishing but don't have a lot of patience to stand shoulder to shoulder with 40 others..🙂 Maybe I need to get my arse out of bed in a morning and find some new water to try. Be well and tight lines.

Love these stretches Brian...Reminds me of water I used to fish for browns as a teen. -
They are the cats behind Brian. If I get back the fishing bug I will look you up!🙂

Never a fan of Walmart for groceries, especially meat. I object to being charged a fixed price for a package of something when I don't know how much is in there or how much per pound they are charging. Another rant while I am on a roll is bought a package of peameal bacon from a supermarket. I weighed it at home and within a very small margin of error the weight was right on. However, when I opened it there was a thick wad of packaging underneath the meat soaked in what I believe was water. I weighed it at 5oz!! Since moving out into a small community we have embraced the local butcher, baker and produce stands. Great (much superior) quality, no unnecessary packaging and prices not much higher than the supermarket. Rant over..🙂

Don't worry about dressing that fly too much Brian. If it sinks so be it. I caught some of my best fish with a sinking dry fly. -

I tied pretty much exclusively 16 and 18 for browns in smaller rivers and streams. Started off with 12 and 14 when I first started fly fishing and doubled my hookups when I when significantly smaller. -

What size are you tying there Brian? Over the years I had more hook up success tying very small. -

Can't really help on the lack of smallies but this is a pretty good read on the history of the lake .. http://quinteconservation.ca/site/images/stories/water/studies/east_lake/el_sol.pdf -
Hi guys and gals. Anyone know if these are worth anything. I have had them for ever and don't remember ever fishing them.

Firstly, I don't think that race, religion, creed, sex or young people has anything to do with this thread. The OP was sharing an article about long term care homes and the issues surrounding some of them. We too have first hand knowledge of these facilities and I need to say that they are not all the same. To be honest, sadly, in these places you get what you pay for. Granted not everyone can afford $4 or $5k a month in their "golden years". There are different levels of care depending on the mental and physical state of the senior in question. They range from retirement communities to assisted living to long term care involving nursing and memory care. From what I have seen it is the nursing and memory care facilities that are the focus of the current problems. Sadly, these issues have been around for many years and have just come to the attention of the news media because of Covid-19. Abuse, neglect and lack of care have been with us forever. Hopefully we will see some massive changes and the principals of these homes in question will have their feet held to the fire to make make major changes in the quality of care. Canada, is a great county and I am proud to call it home. Unfortunately we do not take care of our seniors. We can learn a lot from Scandinavian and indeed many European countries.

I stopped watching them probably 10# years ago. The non stop sponsor plugging was annoying but the non stop hootin' and hollerin' was worse..😄

I grew up close to a river with many species. Browns, grayling in the Winter and lots of what we would call coarse fish in UK. I was float fishing with centrepin before it became sexy. I learned how to fly fish from an old Fin, wish I had kept in touch. Dad wasn't a big fisherman so I learned by doing from a very early age and reading and hanging out at the tackle shops in town. I became more interested in sea fishing as I grew up in my teen years. Casting into the North Sea from piers and off the beaches from Nov through maybe March (when the Cod came inshore and the big tides ran). My uncle had an old converted life boat on which he spent countless hours re-fitting and re-powering. He bought an auxiliary engine, reported to be from Hitlers yacht, probably urban legend, and installed it. the 35' boat was so overpowered that we could only run about 1/4 throttle. We fished the wrecks for cod. Followed a girl to Canada in the early 70's and settled down, got a real job and raised a family. Lost my mojo a few years ago and sold my boat and most of my gear. Starting to get it back in my retirement years and may go back to it. Not sure if I will replace the boat. My love is river fishing, BUT, I like solitude so if I had to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of the Spring and Fall guys I would go insane and would probably end up in jail...lol.
