  1. Finding the right person is always a challenge.
  2. Mod's please let me know if this is not allowed but figured I would see if anyone here was interested in an Apprenticeship... Busy, modern, clean and safe 7 bay shop in Milton looking to fill two positions - - First or second year registered 310S Apprentice. - Experienced Lube and Tire Tech leading to Apprenticeship. Willing to sponsor the right person as an apprentice after probationary period. Both positions offer competitive wages with opportunity for bonus for the right individuals. Benefit package available. These are very good long term career opportunities for the right person(s). Please let me know if you are interested in either position (or know anybody that might be interested). 3. True, but with no mortgage you could whip the place into shape the first year and probably break even. With a quick calculation of occupancy needed to cover operating costs.........well ya know but now it's hindsight and ancient it's ancient history..
  4. What were the terms of the loan(s)? I assume you had to commit to certain covenants? I think that unless the terms were too restrictive I might have swallowed hard and pulled the trigger...
  5. Hi Birddogman and welcome. A lot of us on this site have had experience at different lodges, camps and remote outpost cabins. My initial thought is think about the amount of work both in season and off season and multiply it by 3 or 4 and then you might have an idea of what is involved. The off season work is often longer hours and more involved than in season. Docks, cabins, boats all need maintenance and that's assuming you buy a turnkey operation that needs little work to begin with. As Art says we have seen a lot. From operators that do little or nothing in maintenance and slowly lose business until the light goes on and they realize that they no longer have a viable operation, to those that spend countless hours 12 months a year improving and marketing their operation. Repeat clientele...is really up to you. Again, we have seen operations that were failing badly be taken over and within 2-3 years have large repeat business with clients booking for the next year when they check out. AP appeals to a smaller percentage of the population and the work involved to provide it is large, unless you are a masochistic chef... . I love cedar strip boats, the way they handle etc, BUT they involve a large amount of work to maintain. Most lodges and camps are changing over to 16' aluminums. Don't want to sound negative in any way. This was a dream of mine many years ago but my head had to rule my heart at the time. You will need to dedicate yourself to it 24/7 to make it work, unless of course you are independently wealthy and are just looking for a hobby. Good luck in whatever you decide.
  6. I am seeing this more and more...Does MNR not have the ability to ask the 10 to stay where they are and check them after he wrote up the first guy?
  7. Maybe re-read the rules that you signed up to...
  8. lol maybe you could enlighten us a little beyond princecraft suck....maybe your first hand experiences so that someone with less than your vast boating knowledge can make an educated decision as to what suits them best....just sayin'
  9. I think that you need to ask yourself a few questions like....what kind of baits am i casting? Lighter spinnerbaits and smaller bodybaits or are you planning to cast larger double inlines, heavy bodybaits or even bulldawg types that put incredible stress on reels, (and on your body). Is it for an occasional muskie fish or do you fish them all of the time. I burned out 2 5601 C4s my first season. If cost is a factor C4 is an OK reel for lighter baits but 6000 series as it is only fractionally heavier and a little larger diameter. Definitely get power handle or you fingers will get a workout! If you have smaller hands and a larger budget some of the lower profiles might suit you better. If you fish muskie a lot, invest in a reel that can take the punishment. Just my .02 worth.
  10. Never spent more than $30 on a Muskie bait. I feel that the $75 to $100 and more baits are built to catch Muskie fishermen..
  11. Have fun guys!
  12. Hate to burst the bubble but that 45B could easily become 80 or 90B..
  13. Cliff PM Mike Borger. I know he is away but may check in
  14. Hi Eric, welcome and great first introductory post. Good bunch around here, just watch them Virginians they will steal ya spots...
  15. What Dan says........if functioning properly should have no problem stopping that trailer. I would check wheel cylinders first.
  16. The Smiths gauges were pretty good back in 60's.... the Lucas electrics a different story. Distributors/Caps mounted at the front of the engine were the first things to get wet...you become an expert (well good anyways) at drying out electrics in the wild and woolly parts of the country, miles from anywhere, except maybe the odd pub....
  17. What Art says...If you are in Milton area I would be happy to do a NC load test for you. Dan, I get him first, assuming he learns metric... Art, I grew up with Lucas electrics. They were the devils work. Imagine dealing with it in the wet North East of England and no alternatives in those days!
  18. Good deal Brian. As they are designed to be an off road mud and sand tire watch the acceleration on wet or icy pavement. Because they don't have any sipes they might surprise you, not in a good way..
  19. What he said!
  20. John, both flavours of "Doodles" have been bred over-extensively in Canada and the US. They were so popular when introduced that ethics and responsible breeding have since gone out of the window, at least with a lot of so called breeders. I have many friends who have Lab and Golden Retriever doodles and spend huge amounts of money on them. Not only purchase price but subsequent vet bills. Many have developed forms of cancers, skeletal and other diseases. Others have been difficult and in some cases almost impossible to train. The odd one overly aggressive. Do yourself and a resident a favour, visit an animal shelter and choose a friend who needs you as much as you need them. John
