I too would recommend Mashkinonje Lodge. Regan and Goldie have done a great job since they took over. They welcome you warmly and take care of you well during your stay. Regan has done a great job of learning the waters and "spots"....

Thanks for the memories Brian. Was a ritual for many years ( I believe I missed the first 2). Surprisingly there were few casualties, (mostly liver and brain damage from the white lightening, the source of which shall not pass from these lips )....this fishing was always stellar, the catching not always, but the times and friendships epic! We always seemed to have more than plenty of pike fillets for the pot luck fish fry and awards (BTW the batter b-i-t-c-h-e-s were my favorite, gently caressing the fillets with egg and secret blend coating )....oh and I joined the FF's immediately and unfortunately never left to this day.. Vitamin water never worked for me.....bloody ceasar all the way!
  6. Yep, but in fairness Dan, all shops including mine do a multi-point vehicle inspection with oil change or tire change. We do an honest inspection with written report that the customer is involved in and is offered as a service. Written quote for all repairs needed and the customer has the option of getting a second opinion. We see vehicles in here DAILY with no brakes, leaking shocks and struts, bald tires, rotten brake and power steering lines just to name a few issues..... A prime example of the need to ditch e-tests and replacing it with a safety inspection every two years.
  7. Heard you were good with wood Chris . Wish the first one was mine!!
  8. Verdict - 10 years minus time served plus 12 year driving ban..

    Intro

    Welcome Tom, nice intro!
  10. I was under the impression that the crown was asking for 10 years and his council was asking for 5?
  11. Had one of these in the late 60's /early 70's unfortunately it disappeared when I moved from the UK to Canada. Probably the best steel of any knife I have owned. Handles were a little slippy when they got coated in slime...
  12. All got to do with US trade embargo being lifted...
  13. That's why we are doing Nova Scotia and PEI this year and Nfld next..
  14. On these threads you reap what you sow Cliff. Over the years you have offered great advice and gone out of your way to help so many. Hope that you and Sue have a great trip we will compare notes when we return Mid Sept....
  15. Cliff accommodation will probably run $100 to $150 a night depending on what you choose... not sure 100% on Newfoundland prices but Barbara and I are paying average $140 a night for B&B in Nova Scotia and PEI in early Sept. Off season rates don't really start till October. We are still deciding whether to drive or fly. Flights and rental car are about the same as gas and additional nights accommodation to drive. I understand ferry cost is expensive so may be another reason to fly?
  16. The old (40 +) Finnish and Norwegian knives were excellent. The last one I had finally went to knife heaven about 8 years ago. Blade was so thin and narrow that it finally snapped on me..looked more like a skinny overly flexible boning knife towards the end...
  17. We are already changing lots back to all season...it's not the air temps that kill winter tires it's the temp of the pavement. Unless your policy has specific clauses I'm not sure how they can deny a claim? Having said that March 31- April 15 is typical..
  18. I can vouch for Arts craftsmanship and materials. Beauty work....a few swipes with a steel and it is good to go. I am learning how to refinish the edge when it is needed (an art in itself)...:-)
  19. LOL....and you think that our current "serious" political "leaders" are sound fiscal managers???? We have a provincial "leader" who is turning Ontario into a fiscal third world country and a Federal "leader" who is.......well words fail me without some adjectives I would rather not use....
  20. But we didn't! O'Leary had the cojones to...........just sayin'. BTW who really cares what he is worth? Has little to do with this issue......
  21. Yup would much rather have an O'Leary 'clown" ....as Bill says he is right!
  22. Quite frankly, doesn't matter a hill of beans to me either!
  23. So I can only assume that when you call O'Leary the names you do that you agree with Ms. Wynne's fiscal policies and the fact that successive Liberal governments have created a debt in Ontario that your children will still be paying in their retirement years! Assuming of course they don't continue spending like drunken sailors then just substitute your grandchildren! Similarly, our newly appointed Federal government is off to a cracking start, hopefully we can find some clause somewhere that enables us to impeach for incompetence before we spend ourselves into obscurity!
