  1. Great Wayne...now if you can only sic him onto that old guy with the red suit and long white beard...Bah Humbug !!!
  2. I had to take an alternate route home via Port Perry yesterday and noticed nothing but open water going across the causeway (hwy 7A) on Lake Scugog... The north end of Pigeon Lake is still icebound but I'm hoping it will be open soon...13th April last year...
  3. Not sure when this was taken...1950 ? Carpin' at P'Boro Geeeze I was a skinny kid...LOL
  4. Hey Eddy... that sounds like what my grandad and I used to do back in the late forties but we never had a net...a washtub in the center of his old punt was all we needed...the catfish (Scugog trout) would not let go of the (bob) until their tails touched sumpin'...it was my job to thread the worms into a bob (ball of worms) with a long darning needle then bury them in the worm box until needed... We would dump our catch into a 'live " box near shore and when we were going to eat some it was also my job to grab a dozen and clean them up... Mmmmm...catfish rolled in flour and cornmeal and pan fried in hot lard with new potatoes freshly picked from the garden and corn on the cob... I watched Cronzy yesterday fishing on the river near Winnipeg for big cats and they were using shrimp from the supermarket...makes me wonder if the small shrimps we buy for the cats would work...113 grams for $0.50...that's a lot cheaper than buying worms... If I wasn't so old and decrepit I'd pick my own worms... Dang...if I had known I was going to last this long...I'da taken better care of myself !
  5. Over the years I've noticed that some of my best days catching-wise were when the weather was lousy...before storms...drizzling rain all day...never figured it was because of low barometric pressure... This months issue of The North American Fisherman has an article on exactly this topic...the one thing that made sense to me was when the pressure is high and is working in conjunction with gravity, zooplankton and other goodies are forced to the bottom...but when the pressure is low the stuff rises bringing in minnows and baitfish and starts a feeding frenzy of sorts for all the fishes... If I think of it next time I have a good catching day I'll try to remember the conditions better...sure I will ...not with my galloping senility ...I'll just go fishing anyways...
  6. Maybe this year Maureen... I usually catch and release but lately I've been thinking I'd like to try eating one about five pounds... As a kid on the farm during the summer I caught one around ten pounds and gave it to the Jewish couple that rented the front two rooms of our farmhouse...they invited me for dinner...the lady dressed and baked it like you would a turkey...tasted like fish to me...
  7. You're doin very well...Keep up the fight... A friend of mine who quit took a stop-smoking course at the hospital and he told me that a craving only lasted two minutes...what he forgot to mention was how close together they came... They do get further and further apart...I can't remember when the last one was...but then I'm 20 years not smoking... a day at a time!
  8. Oh My God Boss...what have you gone and done now ??? It's not safe to leave you on your own... Happy Birthday Monique...missed meeting you at Lakair last year...maybe this June. I left early (Friday) and Maureen returned on Saturday.
  9. Aren't they hard to light ? Which end do you light? Sorry...just in a smartdonkey mood this morning
  10. All the best Dave...would you like a coffee with your cake?
  11. CAKE !!!...did someone mention...Cake !!! Hope you had a big slice for me Pete..Happy Birthday !
  12. Can't afford all those new gadgets...this is what I use... 7 ft. Medium Ugly Stik spinning rod Zebco6 Cardinal (Saltwater) spinning reel with large capacity spool Berkly XT 17 lb. test mono. 20 inch horshoe pitching steel stake 36 inch (2 inch outside diameter) pvc pipe Hammer stake firmly into ground on a slight angle towards area you are going to fish, slip pvc pipe over stake, cast out then insert handle of rod into pipe, take all slack out of line until the rod bends slightly, make sure drag is set a bit on the loose side, sit back and keep an eye on rod tip, let carp run with bait before lifting rod out of holder...most times it will set the hook itself...Haven't lost a rod to the carp gods since using this method...Crappieperchhunter's wife got a good laugh outta him and I jumping down a bank chasing after my rod before I started using this holder... As mentioned earlier...this doesn't work very well on cement piers and Big Cliff doesn't like me to hammer stakes into his dock...
  13. " PS... I think Paul would look good in a Coon skin hat! " Yep...I think he would look good wearing one too Good luck on the move...I'd volunteer but with my bad back it's "SAVE THE LAMPSHADES FOR ME ! "
  14. I use 12 lb test Berkly Vanish fluoro line when tying hair rigs for carp fishing... Seems to work ok attached to 17 lb test Berkly Trilene XT... Lots of zebra encrusted rocks at Carp Point that slice any leader/line we use...
  15. Brian...I was bred and born in Cabbagetown and have been on the Toronto Maple Leaf bandwagon since I was old enough to stay up and listen to Foster Hewitt call the game on the radio... I can still remember their glory years and sadly, the not so good ones, MB's dad used to come up to our place in Richmond Hill on Saturdays to watch the game with us and enjoy hot apple pie with icecream during the second intermission (wouldn't want to miss what Don Cherry was ranting about during the first)... Now that I am in my advancing years it sure would be nice to see them in the finals one more time...
  16. Hope your day was a good one Shawn...Many happy returns... This is a bit late but I was resting my eyes after dinner...LOL :sleeping_02:
  17. Many Happy Returns and I hope it was a good one... Long time since we heard from you...All is well ?

  20. Not too sure where this pic was taken but it reminds me of county road 10 heading south from Hwy#7 west of Fowler's Corners...I think it is awsome...
  21. ROTFLMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Good one Terry...
  22. Hey Ed...Pull a "Tom Sawyer" on your brother Lew and maybe he will help paint... Enjoy your retirement home...sounds like what we have ...
  23. Geeze Jed...Just like deja vue all over again... Wasn't this same question asked last year on the old board ???
  24. "Black Beauty"... It was named by my kids way back in the days when I only owned one good rod and reel (Mitchel 300)...the rod was by Berkly and had tons of nylon tape and nail polish holding the guides on it where the threads had become frayed... It is hanging on the "Wall of Fame" in my son Steven's trailer at Rice Lake and was pressed into service if company didn't have equipment...the reel disappeared after one season on the wall (after forty years of use) but maybe will reappear when the trailer comes down this year...
  25. Thanks for the offer Brian...Can we make it after the bass season opens ? I sure would like to tangle with some of those hogs in there...
