  1. The ice was still in Tates Bay today but out further...no where to go...looks like the Back Channel may be clogged up... I heard from another OFNer in town this morning that two guys in a bass boat were spotted casting the shoreline of Nogies Bay with spinnerbaits... Ummm...you're a bit early guys...the lake is not open for fishing until the 28th April
  2. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident... I hope you're well enough to make the opening... I salted the minnows you gave me last February and if all else fails next weekend for crappie...I'll give them a try...
  3. Amazing...just absolutely Amazing You guys just proved that this is the greatest site to belong to... I'm glad I'm a member of the OFC Family...
  4. Don't be too quick to pass over on those brown bullheads...They were a staple part of my diet during the summers of my youth... I think they list them as "Mountain Trout" on the menus in some parts of the southern states... A good soaking in heavily salted water (brine) overnite will get rid of any muddy taste...then rinse well...roll in a mixture of flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper and fry them up in hot lard....yummmm Or do as I did and get the wife to pick up some battered haddock fillets at M & M Meats... (on sale for $9.99 this week)...LOL
  5. Here today...gone tomorrow ??? The ice really did a number on these lakeside docks this year... I could actually see the ice shifting from the wind...
  6. T'aint mine Brian...Private Property...Tresspassers suffer the wrath of Uncle Vinny (The Chin) and Guido...not a nice thing to witness my son...
  7. I was down checking out my dock yesterday and the lagoon where we park our boats was free of ice but the lake (Pigeon, north end) was still covered with dirty grey looking ice except along the shoreline where there was about 20 feet of open water...will be heading out shortly to pick up the mail at the boxes (near the lake) and will take my camera with me...
  8. You Betcha ! Can't wait ! Don't know if we will hit any but we sure as hell will be chasing them on Pigeon...LOL Don't know what this cold spring will do to them this year...assuming the ice goes out this weekend it will be a full week later than last year (Apr 13)... Opener last year they didn't start biting good until the afternoon after the sun had warmed things up a bit...so much for getting up early...LOL
  9. " Any man that likes fishing...can't be all bad..." Mark Twain (I believe) Did you take a look at that link ?
  10. Did I hear somone mention CAKE ? Hope you had a great Birthday Brian... Got you beat Roy...seven of our eight would be older than Brian...Only Mo is younger...
  11. Schnauwzy...kinda between snazzy and wowzy... Oh well...I tried... If it wasn't for the high cost of vet bills we would have another dog and so would many senior citizens trying to live on a pension... Don't think Ki and Rocky (our cats) would agree though...
  12. That's a much better price than what we pay around Bobcaygeon... $60 a face cord = $180 a bush cord cut split and delivered Last spring I paid $215 a bush cord cut split and delivered (hard maple and birch)...most places are advertising anywhere from $200 to $225 a bush cord but you have to make sure that includes delivery... Four years ago the prices were around $185 a bush cord but the gas prices bumped that up quickly... This winter, I burned 2 bush cords (instead of 4) and set the thermostats at 20*C... The numbers are not all in yet so can't quite compare if this was a good move or not... Lots of elbow grease required for a wood stove...stacking, moving in to house, chopping kindling etc...but it looks nice on a cold evening and sure smells good... I would have next winter's wood delivered now unless it is cut and split already on your suppliers property...needs time to dry out... 13. Subject: Getting a passport Dear Mr. Minister, I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this. How is it that Radio Shack has my address and telephone number and knows that I bought a t.v. cable from them back in 1997,and yet, the Federal Government is still asking me where I was born and on what date. For crying out loud, do you guys do this by hand? My birth date, you have on my social insurance card, is on all the income tax forms I've filed for the past 30 years, my health insurance card, my driver's license, on the last eight bloody passports I've had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've had to fill out before being allowed off the planes over the last 30 years, and all those insufferable census forms that are done at election times. Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's name is Maryanne, my father's name is Robert and I'd be absolutely astounded if that ever changed between now and when I die!...DAMN! I apologize, Mr. Minister. I'm really pi--ed off this morning. Between you an' me, I've had enough! You send the application to my house, then you ask me for my damn address. What is going on? You have a gang of Neanderthals workin' there! Look at my damn picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I don't want to dig up Yasser Arafat, for crying out loud. I just want to go and park my butt on a sandy beach. And would someone please tell me, why would you give a sh-- whether I plan on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? If I ever got the urge to do something weird to a chicken or a goat, believe you me, I'd sure as hell not want to tell anyone! Well, I have to go now, 'cause I have to go to the other end of the city and get another damn copy of my birth certificate, to the tune of $60! Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the same spot to assist in the issuance of a new passport the same day?? Nooooo, that'd be too easy and maybe make sense, You'd rather have us running all over the damn place like chickens with our heads cut off, then find some idiot to confirm that it's really me on the stupid picture - you know, the one where we're not allowed to smile?! Hey, you know why we can't smile? We're BLOODY ticked off! Signed - An Irate Canadian Citizen
  14. Wow ! who'da figured eh? Remember...Easy Does It my friend...you got two months to Lakair so rest up and get well... Maribeth sends her best wishes also...
  15. My buddy Photoz will be chomping at the bit to get up there after them bugle-mouthed bass after reading this thread... I think I hear him stirring up a bunch of maize and koolade right now... Go Steve GO !!!...
  16. Nothing like a feed of small mouth bass fillets...I only keep those in the 2 to 2 1/2 lb range...smaller go back to grow up and bigger go back to spawn... Pickerel are getting scarce in the Kawarthas and a lot of my friends would stop talking to me if I served them muskie steaks !!! Crappie, bluegills and perch make good eating also but are not as easy to clean as bass...
  17. There you go boss...what more could a guy ask for...
  18. Nope...now that the leafs are out of it and the Blue Jays are back I'll wait until they get it all sorted out for the finals for the Stanley Cup... Go Leafs Go (next year) make that Go Jays GO
  19. Let's see...if Cliff and I shoot across hwy 7, then drop down hwy ?...now what was the name of that town...hmmm, about 2 hours tops... No worry...Lew will prob be taking the same route...we will just follow him... Looks real nice Ed...

  22. Mickey Spillane ??? What did I win ???
  23. I posted this in the wrong thread yesterday Like my pal Jack sez..."it's me age...ya know" Each spring is different for crappies as far as color of tubes is concerned but all white tubes or a small white twister tail on a 1/16 or 1/32 oz. jig under a slip float is good for starters...once you find the depth they will hit at, peg your float at that depth...try different color combos (pink/white, red/white, chartreuse, chart/white, green with black specks/yellow tentacles were hot in Rice Lake a couple of years ago) Keeping the bait moving slowly helps entice hits sometimes... Small live/salted minnows are good but we found the Fin S Arkansas shiners worked as well or better than live ones... Shallow back bays on the north or west shores of most lakes are usually the better spots in the spring...water warms up there earlier...
  24. In the interval (dead air) between my "hello" and their answer I hit the # key several times then hang up)...Andy Rooney of "60 Minutes" fame sez this confuses their computer automated calling machine and it deletes your number from their files...I guess it works as we don't get very many call any more...If I wasn't quick enough, I ask them to hang on for a minute as I have to tend to the baby...A few minutes later they usually hang up...LOL He also suggests mailing any junk mail without your name and addy on it back in those prepaid envelopes...they still have to pay to receive them... I kinda reuse junk mail as fire starter for the wood stove instead...
