The short-lived invasion of the salmon snatchers
torco replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Hahaha, Burn. Seriously though, interesting article that really makes you think about how the changing of the environment, in this case the warming of the oceans can have on certain species. If I had my choice I'll take salmon over calamari any day of the week. -
Nice Eye's. My brother-inlaw and I just completed my first trip to the Bay this past weekend but we got skunked when it came to walleye. We stayed at a friends trailer near Hay Bay and fished around Hay Bay mostly. Probably trolled almost as far as Glenora but no luck. Whereabouts on the bay were you guys fishing if you don't mind me asking? We debated going out to The Gap as its called but both felt a little intimidated traveling that far on our first trip plus we saw lots of boats around Hay Bay, although didn't see anyone catch any walleye.

Great report. Our rivers were blown out the guelph way. I ended up having a few hours free thursday morning but couldn't find a stream worth fishing. I probably should have headed further east! Good luck with hunt for fall walleye, my brother-inlaw and I hit the bay of quinte this past weekend for the first time. Despite spending the better part of the entire weekend on the water we got skunked on walleye. Could have filled the boat with perch but no eyes. I am looking forward to trying to catch steelhead on the fly rod this fall.

Great report and advice on the barbs. I am going to start fishing steel this weekend coming, I usually start around the thanksgiving weekend.

I started to pvr it after I saw the guy lose his finger to the eel, hahah

Do you have the backroads mapbook for cottage country? Lots of good ideas in it.

Great report, time is running out on a lot of streams. I must get out next week.

Thanks guys, we'll be in Hay Bay for the most part so now we know 1 rod each. Looking forward to it, haven't fished for walleye in a few years. Will put up a report upon my return.

Hi, I am heading out to the Bay of Quinte next weekend for the first time to try for some walleye with my brother in-law. I just read the regulations but am confused, does anyone know if it is 1 or 2 rods per angler in the Bay?

I love my stradic reels both are about 4-5 years old. The 2500 one has really taken a beating and just keeps going without an issue. My 4000 series one however which the newer of the 2 recently had a gasket problem. The rubber gasket which I assumes helps keep dirt and water out broke and I could no longer reel. I was on a trip so I took it apart removed the gasket and put it back together. It worked fine for the rest of the trip but I think I will need to get it fixed.

Wow that sucks. I'd be moving or building some sort of fortress around my yard?

Awesome report. You guys up there are truly blessed with some great brookie fishing!

Its one of the reason I rarely go salmon fishing anymore. I still like to hit the mouth of the river late at night or early in the morning before the crowds get too big. Nailing a silver salmon on lure is some of the most fun I have ever had fishing. I haven't been out all this year, with my daughter just coming up on 6 months and starting to teeth I have been opting for any sleep I can get at night lately.

Amazing pictures, can't wait to see more.

Well done, 100 muskie in a season and its not even over yet. You still have plenty of time to crack the 50 inch mark still as well.

I am not a fan of Chronzy's breading and batter mix. Lately we have been doing perch by dusting in flour, then egg, then bread crumbs. It doesn't get much easier. But the trick is to spice it up, I have been using Clubhouse Citrus blast and mixing it in with both the flour and bread crumbs. It is quite a refreshing blend. Serve with lemon wedges and you are good to go. I also like any beer batter mix. Another thing I have found is the hotter the oil the better.

Back when I still had a truck and was young and foolish, haha I broke a rod tip off one of my rods in the back of the truck. I have used tubes and cases ever since. I have that hard case from frabill that you speak of which I use on occassion but I'll be honest its bulky for what it is and prefer the tubes.

Killarney Provincial Park smallmouth and more

Nice report. What a beautiful park up as well. -
Well done as everyone said its hard to get specks in the heat of summer and to think you could take a swim after catching those beauties. Not usually a possibility when you think speck fishing in Algonquin.

Nicely done. I'll be looking to get out next week. I'll send you a PM when I know what my schedule is looking like and hopefully we can hook up. Its been over a month since I fished a river! -

BEARS! What to do with fish remains while camping?
torco replied to mahman's topic in General Discussion
There was a thread on this not long ago. Basic jist was keep it away from yours or anyone elses campsite. That includes burning it. -
