Ryan is a good guy. I have had the pleasure of fishing with him and he'll have you learning the ropes pretty quick.

Nice bag of fish there. I also need to keep that picture handy when the wife starts nagging about how many rods I have. I typically only use about 3 different rods but they just don't get it.

I think you have your areas mixed up. Cross creek and HWY 6 are not part of Guelph Lake. Guelph Lake ends at the dam which is before Victoria rd. As for parking and fishing outside of the Park. You can also park along wellington rd 29. Its more limited for shore fishing but you can launch a canoe from there and fish the part of the lake not within the park. Guelph is very diligent with parking enforcement so I wouldn't risk it and walk the extra few minutes. In terms of fish species, you have large and small mouth bass, pike, panfish and carp.

As others have said 4-5 days is plenty of time to portage into a nice lake and do well. My experience with Algonquin has definitely been if you want quality fishing you need to portage. There are some lakes that you can get to in a couple hrs by canoe and it will be worth it.

Haven't been a member too long but its great community and have never had any issues whether it be in the general forum or using the classifieds section. -
If you are smart about it, Rice lake or scugog shouldn't be a problem. By that I mean if the weather is windy you may have to stick to back in a bay or closer to shore. But you seem to have a good amount of lakes to start with. You could without a gas motor on guelph lake, its very close for you.

Well being it the long weekend, any camping which requires site reservation worth going to is likely booked within that radius. I would probably look at map of crown land and go from there.

Technically not allowed to fish off the dam I think but I see lots of people fishing it. Below the dam in the speed river also holds bass and pike as well as other warm water species. -
Here my dog Cheyenne. She is just over a year and half old German Shepherd. We weren't intending on getting a dog but when my brother in-law bought 2 guards the female went into heat before he got her spaded. So he had 9 puppies that needed homes, Cheyenne was the runt of the litter and the last one that needed a home. Anyways I absolutely love her and she is wonderful with our baby daughter. Here she is relaxing on the beach at the cottage last summer. . And baby sitting Alise (she is now just over 4 months old)

Well done Mike, some big fish there. BTW...the rod I gotr off of you is great. I tested it last weekend on some small pike in town.

Love the Big O or I guess baby o in the crawdad colour. My biggest smallie to date was caught on it about 4lbs. Always produces well for me along drop offs and rock piles.

Nice report. I have been meaning to get my fly rod out for bass.

Guelph Lake has some excellent small and largemouth fishing. As Ryan said no motorized (gas) engines allowed. But that said I have seen people use there boats and electric trolling motor. I use a canoe to fish it and have done well. Last time I was at the park I think they rented jon boats with electric motors. Does anyone know if that is still the case? That could be something to try if you don't want to paddle. Ryan my evenings look good for next week with the exception of Thursday. Shoot me a PM if you want to head out somewhere, could even do Guelph lake. -
just break up some pieces of bread and put it the trap. It should help attract minnows.

What a hog of a bass. The mepps black fury strikes again. Its always worthwhile to have in the tackle box.

Good old fashion bread!

If I could do it again, I'd likely go the trades route and be a plumber or an electrician. Not that I should complain as a paper pusher, its stable has decent pay and good vacation but it is boring. If you are good at sales, maybe pursue a b.comm degree or diploma part-time and try and work at the same time.

Not a soul around me fishing. Plenty of passerby's though. Definitely felt good and allowed me to try out a new (used) spinning rod I purchased, which I am glad to say I am really happy with.

That is a tragedy. But you are spot on Ryan its a good reminder of how fragile life is. Play it safe.

Looks like a great week out on Georgian Bay. I always find when fishing new water, you tend to go out further from your starting point than needed and that its always by the end of the week that you have figured out the fishing for that week.

Well with my original plans to fish with my brother in-law out the window today, I decided to try the fishing here in town this evening. Sorry no pics but being solo with my dog just didn't make taking pictures easy. I was impressed that I was able to battle a few small pike, lose a bass all within a few minutes of downtown guelph. Something about being able to catch fish in the middle of the city was really satisfying. The one pike had a good sized gash out of it, my hope is that it was caused by an even bigger pike. Came home after a little over and hour after my dog fell/jumped in the water twice! She is obsessed with fishing lures (I am careful to keep her away from the lures) and sometimes gets a little carried away. Thankfully she doesn't like getting wet or I don't think I would be able to take her. I am looking forward to trying a few more spots in town.

My bubble is not burst. Grew up fishing for salmon every summer with my uncle on Lake Huron and Michigan. Have also gone on Lake Ontario charters and caught 1 fish and 20 fish, I understand how they cycle around the lake and can be gone in a flash. But you have to admit from looking at the size of last years fish in the derby and the size already caught this year, the chances of getting a larger fish appear to be looking up.

I am so excited to have a charter booked for mid august this year. With all the great reports its look like its going to be another great year for salmon on the Lake.

You have a gorgeous home. can't imagine it would be hard to sell, too bad you have to move but it seems to make the most sense. I guess at the end of the day, as long as you are with your family any house will likely feel like a home.
