  1. Has anyone gone to Bryer Lodge? I'm wondering if any one has had success at this place. I'm heading there on the May long weekend and would love some advice, hints, tips, etc. I want to catch the big ones! I thought I would start a thread so that when I get back I'll post some pictures if I can get any luck that is. Thanks!
  2. I'm interested in doing some ice fishing this winter on the Bay of Quinte and could use some help choosing an outfitter. I'm looking for a good price over a weekend (plus a day or two), good customer service, pros - cons, etc... Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Just finishing up the packing and we leave Saturday morning bright and early! Thanks a lot for all the comments. Its definitely helped me feel a touch more comfortable We have actually done an Algonquin trip before but last time we didn't eat any of the fish we caught so we weren't so paranoid. This time we are out there quite a bit longer so some good protein and freshness would be delicious.
  4. Thanks again! However, I am interested in Black Blade's post now. Is cooking the fish going to put out all of the oily scents as well? Clearly odors are released I just don't want them lingering for hours! Is it better to eat the fish away from camp?
  5. Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to keep it away from me and other campsites then. Do you have the link to the previous post similar to this?
  6. I'm heading to Algonquin in the next couple days and I'm hoping to catch some fish for dinner but am not quite sure what to do with the fish remains. I'm a little nervous about the bears and other wild life messing with my gear and messing with me! I may be a little paranoid but I would rather not have to confront a bear when I'm there. I'm just trying to make it as safe as possible for my friends and I, as well enjoy some fresh fish for the occasional dinner. What should I do with the fish remains after I fillet them? Is there some proper way to go about this? Also, should I be concerned about filleting them at my camp? Or should I be venturing out a couple 100 meters to do it. These are the options I have come up with. Any help would be appreciated. 1) Bury them away from my campsite? 2) Burn them? 3) Sink them?
  7. I have fished Valens and Guelph with a trolling motor and we didn't have to bag the gas motor.
  8. The subway peeps in Dundas, Ontario don't have a clue about this contest! Its sad; went in the other day and only got a sub! It was tasty though. I want one of those cut-outs for the cottage!
  9. Same! Love watching these things!
  10. Awesome fish! Must have been amazing landing that thing in a canoe. I wish I could fish out of a canoe, but I know I would just tip! I'll practice my canoe fishing in the summer.
  11. Went I'm cruising, me and the boys always seem to play I'm on a boat by Lonely Island! --> I'm also not going to lie but we have also made our own lyrics to The Fray - How to Save a Life! Its now turned into a freestyle competition where we make up lines to the verses (of course about fishing) and the chorus always turns into "HOW TO SLAY A PIKE" because we love catching those monsters! I'm sure the next time you hear the song you'll sing it too! --> Check it!
  12. bigredneck, the blue part of the net measures 18inches so we all came to the agreement it was roughly 30 to 31 inches. When we got home we also tried one of those online fish calculators; based on its weight it told us the same thing basically.
  13. So this past weekend THEBOATMAN, K-DUB (fellow OFC members and personal friends of mine) and myself went to Nine Mile Lake (near Parry Sound, Ontario) to catch some fish. Earlier last week we came to OFC and posted asking for some tips, information and comments about Nine Mile Lake and as it turns out I only go one reply about it so I thought I would share my experience. Firstly, the boat launch was fantastic; we launched the boat at a beach where we found small rocks that layered the sand. We thought this was our best shot in order to have some solid traction for the truck. Once we got the boat in the water we headed out to the main lake where the average depth was approximately 25 to 35ft with a sandy bottom. The water had good visibility and was fairly warm for this time of the year. There is a massive sand bar that crosses the entire lake and when we first tried to go over it our trolling motor was stirring up the sand so we had to back track and hit it from a different direction. If you plan on going there make sure you keep your eyes open! Along the one side of the lake you'll find a nice rock wall that spans a good chunk of the lake. We marked quite a lot of fish along it but didn't manage to catch anything. The majority of the day was trolling deep divers with an occational cast into small bays working the wacky rigs and top waters. I managed to catch a nice 8lb pike trolling (hopefully the picture below worked!) aswell a smaller pike. We also pulled out 2 nice smallmouths! The weather was great and the lake was quiet. Keep your lures in the water!
  14. Thanks blue_pickeral for the comment, I really appreciate it. I guess not many people have fished Nine Mile. I am hoping that I can bring back some good info about it!
  15. I have tried Shades Mill only from shore and lost two lures snagging on logs. Its part of the Grand River so I'm sure there is some decent fish in there but I haven't had any luck. It would be nice to get a boat and trolling motor to cover some ground and see what its really like.
