Sweet report, I am very jealous . I have been out twice so far this year. Not much to show for it yet. Can't wait to see that video.

Great report.

Sweet report and very helpful to us fly fishing newbies!
-
Thanks I am with TD meloche monnex.

Yeah I am sure a Cesar Millan would be able to help but that sounds like a remote possibility. There are some training centre I know of where you can board the dog for 4-6 weeks and they work with them. The two I can think of are the Monks of New Skete in New York State and Olympus in Orangeville. It is extremely expensive though. I have done private lessons with Olympus they are excellent but they mostly work with german shepherds and similar type dogs. Well good luck, I hope you find it a home.

TD insurance or TD meloche?

Hey, Tough decision, I have had issues my german shepherd (never that extreme) and friends of mine had a similar issue with their rottweiler. I am sure someone can work with this dog. I think with the right person and the right situation most dogs can become good. Here is a link for a husky rescue website. http://www.shccrescue.com/ON2.html

Cookslav's Most Excellent Algonquin Opener 2011
torco replied to Cookslav's topic in General Discussion
Another great Algonquin opener report. Too bad about the weather overall but glad you made it out safe. I am pretty sure I have canoed the lakes you were at and I can attest that a strong wind just funnels down those lakes making for some scary moments. Of course it was July and hypothermia wasn't a concern. Its funny though the trips with the crazy weather and adversity are the ones I remember the best and seem to share the most stories from. -
I have wondered about this as well. If I am in a small stream I just tied it on directly because casts are short and tangles are minimal. For longer casts on larger streams, I have used swivels and snap swivels. I haven't done much experimenting with this but if you are concerned about the snap swivel deterring fish why not use a micro swivel and attached a couple feet of line before your spinner.

I have to agree that is my favorite as well but I like the mepps #1 and 2 aglia as well. I like to experiment but you can always count on mepps and panther martin.

Guelph is a beautiful red island in a sea of blue Seriously though we have an excellent liberal MP who more or else campaigned on himself and not his party. His main opponent was to put politely a bit wacky.
-
MJL I am glad to see you back at it and what a great report. Looking forward to many more.

I am pretty sure the Cons wanted this election they are masters at the political game and I think they played the Liberal party well. I don't know the NDP at the provincial level (outside of Ontario) has done well a running government. Manitoba under Doer and Saskatchewan under Romanow probably being the best examples. I didn't see any vision from Harper either, he just played doomsday scenarios and tried to scare people. He first got elected with a vision of accountability and transparency but never delivered on it. Just to be straight with everyone I am not a member of any party but I am liberal with a small " l" in my beliefs. I will never be able to wrap my head around conservatism. Thats it for me on this topic back to fishing

Its funny it will be stable in terms of no elections but I bet as a country we see more change in the next 4 years than we have in the last 15 years. It personally worries me but its the mandate of the people, hopefully Harper delivers what you expect of him.

No worries, I shouldn't have been quick to jump to conclusions. I saw your reports looks like a nice fat brownie, well done.

In the future if you are looking for a pair of waders you can also take a peak at Cabelas. They can have some pretty good sales of course it would be nice if they had a store nearby but if you can wait for them to be shipped its possible to save some cash. Last year around the american thanksgiving I got a great deal on some breathables.

You are correct I didn't see the other posts as I was writing my reply. Likely cause I had OFC open while at work and didn't refresh before replying. Understand now were you are coming from with your wife present and wearing a life jacket. Sorry for coming off like I was treating you like an idiot I didn't have all the details. Therefore I questioned it because you just never know some people don't think. We see instances of people being unsafe around water all the time.
-
I think a trout pond is probably a safer bet with a toddler. I have 1 year old and I can't fathom having her anywhere near moving water at this time of year, let alone while I try to fish. The water is very cold and hypothermia can happen very quickly. If you must take your daughter near the water I would recommend you have her in a life jacket. Sorry if I sound judgmental.
-
great report. Sounds like the timing was pretty well near perfect especially considering our crazy weather. I have never in my life been with a group that caught over 20 steelhead in a day let alone 50 plus.
-
I was out your way COPPER fishing with a buddy of mine, we were mostly targeting browns and we noticed the samething not a lot of people out until the rain slowed. Of course I did notice on the Friday night a popular place in oshawa had multiple tents pitched. I will never understand these people that stand shoulder to shoulder in what can't be more than 20 by 10 foot pool.
-
Sweet report. I have always wanted to fish for superior steel, the numbers down here maybe better and larger fish but it feels from the pics much more majestic fishing north of the Soo.
-
I never said I was going to give up, I always give it a shot especially considering the time have to fish has been severely depleted over the last couple of years. But lets not sugar coat it, its not looking good. I have a few ideas in mind to deal with the weather and I may have to use my spinning gear instead.

What Bill said, lots of rain everywhere.

I was going to avoid the grand this weekend just because I figured it would be really busy and fish some smaller creeks and tributaries around. There is a little branch i believe is off the credit I have had success at spin fishing for residents bows and browns and was hoping to try on my fly rod. But if the water is too high and brown, I may have to look at something different. Yeah I made the mistake of wasting my time trying to fish the grand after a storm. I actually didn't get in the water as it looked pretty unsafe.
