  1. not sure it's worth it either, give it a year or two before the next great thing comes out and people are pawning them off on ebay the others (avets/trinidads) are a little cheaper but lack a level wind but, if you absolutely must burn those blades in at breakneck speeds that type of reel is apparently the cats meow.
  2. I use a 7001 as well. It does pull the big blades (dbl 10+) but, if you truly want to burn them back to the boat effortlessly, that is the reason reels like the tranx, trinidad, avet series, etc are popular amongst muskie anglers -- they have a very "high inches of line retrieved per crank of reel handle" ratio. doing that with a 7000 series is still a fair bit of work. double 8s displace much less water -- they are not even close to double 10s and you could get away with the big curados, old quantum cbc30 reels, revo toros etc. even if you want to burn them just under the surface.
  3. how low was the water bcd?
  4. I use a 2/10 amp CT charger deep cycles take a while on the 10 amp setting 8+ plus hrs. on the 2 amp it would take forever. 2 amp is meant for maintenance and/or the last bit of "top-up" after you've been charging at 10+ amps for hours. (most auto chargers these days will cycle between 2/10 amp when they are nearly done charging). my deep cycle will last me a long wknd on a 55# bowmount used heavily. though if its been real windy, i sometimes have to break out a 2nd deep cycle on day 3.
  5. I think you'll find they are all pretty close. The merc guys love their motors and I love my Yamaha. It may come down to best deal and closest dealer.
  6. the mass market bass sized SBs of today are pure garbage plain and simple i am disgusted at the chickenpoop wire which bends and breaks very easily in the booyah, strike king etc products not to mention i thoroughly hate the r-bend design which they all come in. give me closed loop any day. i have several SBs of late 80s/early90s vintage (blue fox and others) that are still solid after many years of use, many fish with teeth and many tail replacements.
  7. My suggestion would be to wait till end of this season and look for a new, non-current model year from a dealer -- kinda like whiskey did above I bought my new 2010 40 Yammy (from Hastings Marine (I shopped around and they were the best price [i was stuck on Yamaha] -- they deal Yammy and I believe Mercs too) that way and saved a fair amount compared to buying the brand spanking new 2011 which were just hitting the showroom.
  8. bass - stupid incidental fish pike - esox jr walleye - dinner
  9. oops edit: oldie thread.
  10. No problem Joe, if that doesn't get your foot tappin' you need to check your pulse.
  11. mississippi fred mcdowell cover/tribute
  12. As you can see by the responses, not even fluoro is bite proof. There is no replacement for wire. Particularly on baits that the fish tend to 'swallow' like the soft plastics.
  13. the entire french river area, being an operating provincial park, already has fees. day use is still 'free' provided you find a free launch and free place to park.
  14. yamalube breakin lube is whats in your engine's crankcase when you picked it up from the dealer. it is designed to stay in there for the breakin period.
  15. To avoid guelph, I'd take 6 north to #22 (right), left on #29, quick right back on #22, left on #26, right on East Garafaxa/Erin townline (I am almost 100% this one is paved - it is once you get to Orton for sure) follow this road (wave as you go by 3rd line before Orton) all the way to Winston Churchill (left) you'll be right at the 90 deg bend I mentioned in the post above.
  16. (1)24 to trafalgar (left) to wellington 22 (right) to winston churchill (left) which becomes townline after the 90 deg bend, to 109 (right), to 10 (left) and immediate right on 9.
  17. They're treated as muskie.
  18. double bladed baits should be 'harder' to reel in due to the increase resistance of the two blades the increased resistance (or two blades spinning) should also generate more lift, meaning that you should not have to crank as hard to keep up a bait up compared to an identical single bladed bait. if your bait 'skips' a beat, it's not right. check to make sure the wire is straight and that the clevis spins freely. most of the better baits add a bead above the clevis to act as a bit of a bearing. the blades may also be hitting the skirt or hooks. hard to say without looking at it.
  19. nice fish you've graduated from those panfish, you can remove the "B" from your name now.
  20. i remember hwy 69 had the paved shoulder you were supposed to pull over to allow faster traffic to pass. propably saved some lives, 69 was a pretty treacherous hwy back then even without having to pass on the oncoming traffic side of the road. like 11, old hwy 69 is a ghost town now.
  21. bass tournament rule = no care
  22. "Budget Chief Mike Del Grande demanded to know why the no-fishing signs were posted last week. Parks general manager Jim Hart said a member of staff had a half a dozen complaints about shoreline fishing over the last number of years. “The nature of the complaints were people fishing off the boardwalk and casting behind them while people were walking by, a line going over a boat and hitting a boater ... some seniors walking by were afraid of the lures,” Hart said." 6 complaints over the last number of years apparently deserves a ban.
  23. Xplornet has bought up alot of the satellite ISPs. Check with them. beware though, Xplornet rec'vs less than stellar reviews. It'd still look at wireless providers that are local to that area though. You may get lucky.
  24. I am more than happy to be out of cellphone range when camping.. means I can't get work emails/calls The question was asked however here is rogers' coverage map (bell will be similar they sometimes even share towers) you can see that along the major arteries there's good coverage and you can see where the gaps exist. http://rogers.wirelessdealer.ca/coverage/index.asp?l=en
