  1. there are no fish in gbay or the french, stick to the kawarthas.
  2. Service along major arteries is rarely an issue as there are cell towers along them, it's when you step off the beaten path fyi, I have a Samsung Galaxy SII. a little better than tin can and string.
  3. Yup, it's a dead zone no matter which provider you are with (I've had service from the big 3 over the years and it makes no difference) If the sun & moon & stars are aligned you can get a signal if you're at the top of a hill, esp around rainy island for some reason. There was supposed to be a tower going up near Dokis but the bean counters (I presume) decided the people up there are not worth the investment.
  4. it's possible Randy but it's not cable internet and DSL is unlikely (doubt there are fibre optic lines out to camps). It's more than likely wireless.
  5. I doubt there's the infrastructure (cable run) to a remote camp -- unless your camp is right in town. You have two options, satellite or, if you are within reach of a cell tower in camp from Bell, Rogers, Telus etc you can get wireless internet. There *might* be local wireless providers as well, you'd have to do some digging. Likely higher upfront costs with satellite than wireless but more generous bandwidth limits. Speed will propably be higher on wireless.
  6. the ford brothers have two votes on council and i'd be VERY surprised if they were the ones that introduced this. mayhaps look at adam vaughn (speculating) or another one of his ilk.
  7. With the weight up front + maybe a passenger you will be able to trim out without porpoising (bouncing). I think the advice to wait until you have it equipped the way it typically will be is spot on.
  8. Northern Ontario + June = you have to ask? bring lots of N. Ontario Cologne (DEET)
  9. you're a man, get a lowrance leave the toys for the boys.
  10. sorry terry, money talks Bull walks. i'd have done the same thing if i were the dealer and i don't see anything wrong with what he did -- there was no contract, no money down, nothing. if i held on to stuff i sell on kijijii for people who said they'd be by to pick it up, i'd never sell anything. show up at my door, cash in hand and it's yours. same idea here.
  11. the torque or pulling power at the wheels is a measure of engine torque * gear ratio * final drive and in a 4WD equipped vehicle * the gear reduction in the 4WD transfer case (4HI vs 4LO) so your statement is false. a 4LO equipped vehicle does have more pulling power than vehicle with only 2WD, AWD or even 4HI only eventhough though their engine/transmission/rear-end specs are otherwise the same (which, often times, they are not between 4wd/2wd)
  12. what drifter said. aluminum, spare prop, tools and city wide. if you know you are going to ding, run aluminum. better the prop than a shaft inside. to be honest though, i don't know how someone can ding rocks on a regular basis. if you don't know, go slow. pay attn and quit staring down your wife's top. i fish some of the rockiest/shoaliest areas around which are often uncharted and although i am sure it will happen one day, i've yet to ding my prop.
  13. I donno about the rules of the interstates down south BB but up here on a 3 lane hwy trucks can only use the middle lane to pass. You are in effect (ab)using their passing lane and creating traffic havoc by doing the limit or south of it in the middle lane. Like the adage says, keep right except to pass and move your slow lumbering self over to the right lane. Like you, when towing, I rarely go north of 100km/hr either but I keep to the right whenever possible.
  14. gotta have a believer and jake in the arsenal for trolling. grandma too.
  15. i use 10" & 13" jointed models i troll on the shallow eye and on the deep eye. speeds 4-7 mph in the summer - mostly on the shallow eye (some believers will blow out at high speeds even after adjusting so if you find one that tracks good its a keeper). 3.5-5 in the fall mostly on the deep eye. i cast the 10" and retrieve slowly ie. use them as a topwater lure at or after dark
  16. I could fish all season with a bootail, a suick and a believer.
  17. The ban is for "cosmetic" use ie. lawns. As far as they are concerned, you are using it to kill all the poison ivy in the yard.
  18. BBs suggestions are useless unless you are willing to cross the border for the weed killers. You wont find those items available for sale here. Weed-b-gone may work if its not too bad. Head over to a TSC near you and see if you can find the concentrated formula you dilute yourself. The stuff in the pre-mix bottles/sprayers is a bit of a waste of money (you're paying for water). If your neighbours lawns are filled with dandelions, it's a losing battle, the seeds will just blow in the wind right onto your lawn. To clear a patch for my garden, I got a hold of farm grade Round Up and 2,4-d (you have to know a farmer to get this stuff) this year but this is not a selective herbicide (it kills everything including grass).
  19. if you troll i think i would opt for the 4 stroke.
  20. it is for storm water management -- the area was a marsh and prone to flooding years back. i suspect they built it to control the runoff so the folks in those (relatively) new subdivisions don't get water in their basements. i don't think it holds anything but ya never know.
  21. give 'er. the 4.0 I6 is bulletproof. I had the same motor in my old XJ (regular Cherokee) the entire drivetrain ran till nearly 400ks before I sold it -- the body definately showed it's age.
  22. I'll hold the rod if I am trolling a jerkbait to give it rips and pauses but my biggest issue is, where do I put the beer & smoke?
  23. your insurance will be 300-400 / year. storage in the city will run you 80-100 month -- you didnt specify where you live. you could find someone with land and store it on their property for less.
  24. diesel looks to be about 5-6 cents cheaper / liter than regular 'round here.
  25. The Tranx is marketed to fill a bit of a niche market/technique (albeit a very popular one today) -- that being the craze of casting large double bladed (#10 or #13) inlines. It has a very high retrieve/turn of the crank ratio while keeping the gear ratio itself relatively 'slow' -- therefore it has lots of grunt or torque which makes retrieving these lures at high speeds all day a relatively easy affair. With a 400/401/Abu 7000 it can get quite tiresome. Shimano (and others) previously offered reels up to this task ie. Trinidad, Avet Reels but this is one of the first (if not the first) that features a level-wind.
