  1. Unfortunately, this happens all the time. More now that we have access to the internet for information. I have definitely seen a nose dive in population since 2 years ago on the lake that I tend to fish for them. There is always a boat or two on every spot that is visible. Those spots usually get cleaned out of most of the spawners. So, the article makes sense.
  2. One thing to note is that the water in those lakes are very clear. This can make for some tough fishing on those sunny days. I tend to catch fish deeper on those lakes in general. I caught a walleye on Loon a couple of years ago and it was around 1.5 pounds at the most. Lost something very big in that lake after fighting it for a period of time, then it just got off. It wasn't fighting like a muskie would, so I assume it was a laker or walleye, probably a walleye. Have only fished Miskwabi in the winter and caught some lakers, mostly small ones. It has potential for some good smallmouth bass fishing. Beautiful area and close proximity to so many other lakes will make up for any shortcomings on Miskwabi!
  3. Gannons Narrows was wide open all winter. The rest of the lake still has ice. It will be awhile before the main part of the lake opens up. The lower end has some open areas, but again, the areas that had over 14" will take awhile to break up. The old river bed will be the first to go. The water level is still way down, so most of the launches would be useless, other than Gannons Narrows Marina maybe.
  4. I'm pretty sure they are a great lakes fish that have finally worked there way into the whole Trent system and other inland lakes. Some were probably planted illegally. I remember catching them in Georgian Bay back in the early 70's.
  5. It's only March 2nd!
  6. I don't know about that. He had the option to sign anywhere he wanted a couple years back when he was a free agent. What did he do? I would love to see him in a Leafs uniform, but not if they have to trade every prospect they have to get him in the summer.
  7. My thoughts exactly.
  8. Went the last two springs and each was completely different. 2 years ago we couldn't keep them off our lines (over 100 fish for two guys in three days); last year wasn't anything like that. We might have caught 5 fish in three days and all were at night.
  9. Aren't they baseball players? lol
  10. No kidding! They need to get rid of some of those guys on the sports shows. They look kind of silly today after nothing really transpired. Those stations must have money to throw away. Oh ya, one is owned by Rogers.
  11. They need to stock that lake again! I think it's a free for all johnnyb, but hopefully I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. I think they want it more of a fun day than have it too competetive.
  12. Our Provincial Government is broke!
  13. I agree that they would benefit from making the playoffs for the experience, most successful teams go through this process, so I hope they can squeak in. I just can't believe that making a few trades (trading assets) at this point is benficial to a team trying to grow into a playoff team. Getting rid of the dead wood would be fine; however, no other GM seems to biting at them. Really, they aren't going anywhere this year, so wait until the summer to add some missing pieces. And I can't figure Nash out, he had the opportunity to go anywhere he wanted when he was a free agent and what did he do? He signed with that powerhouse team he is presently playing for. He didn't want anything to do with TO at that time.
  14. Not sure if somethings brewing, they just weren't performing, so wasting a roster spot that could be filled with someone that might actually score seems silly. Not sure a trade will make any difference for the Leafs at this point. I just can't see them making anykind of playoff run if they actually get into the playoffs. Burke should keep sight on building a team through the draft and minors. I can see making a trade if they were battling the Rangers or Bruins for top spot, but they're not there yet.
  15. For those that like a batter coating, try Brodies XXX Flour (it already has the baking powder and salt in it) It's lighter than most other batters and comes out nice and crispy. Add paprika or other spices if you like.
  16. Just go to where you pay the ticket and setup an appointment for a meeting with the crown and bring the ticket and receipt. The Justice of the Peace should throw it out.
  17. Saw some these when I was there.
  18. That's why us locals answer the question "How do you know when it's safe to go out on the ice?" with "When you guys stop falling through the ice!"
  19. When are you going to Boshkung? I heard it's not safe yet.
  20. I fished for Bluegill on the lower end of Pigeon last year and had a heck of time getting them to bite anything. I could see schools of them them, but they were like zombies. I threw every small jig, grub, gulp, maggot plastic I had and they just wouldn't pay any attention to them. Even tried worms. let us know if you go and figure them out. I would target the mid section of the lake so you can get into some 8'-12' of water.
  21. I saw a post on another forum, where they just were able to make it out there. I think they said there was three inches of ice, might be more now, but I would be cautious just because of the erratic weather. Have you tried calling Minden Bait?
  22. Watch the egg nog if you're lactose intollerant, it won't be pretty!
  23. Maybe water polo! Bring the wet suits. Just kidding! This sucks.

    Possum

We had one around our pool during the spring thaw one year. Never saw him again after that day. They usually move on if there isn't any food around. They do have wicked teeth.
