  1. I had a muskie on up at the French a few years back and the hook popped out beside the boat. I just slowly reached down and grabbed it by the gill plate and lifted it out of the water. Don't think it even knew what was going on, it was a quick fight. I wouldn't have jumped in after it though, I had a run in with muskie teeth in the past and it wasn't pretty.
  2. I would also have to say it's a shiner based on the anal fin.
  3. If I had the money, I would choose the cable foot pedal over the power drive, much easier to control in windy/rough conditions. I would also go with the larger pound thrust. I have a 55# on a 15' smokercraft aluminum and i would say that it is just sufficient.
  4. That's crazy. My neighbour has a place up there and the last he heard was that they were going to lose out to the fire. Every place on the lake will be lost when the fire hits.
  5. I saw 4 on Sunday. Two large ones laying in about 7-9 feet of water, just cruising. I also had two come up after fish that I was bringing in (one after a bluegill and another after a small bass). Had one other bite me off while fishing for walleye. I like to target areas where there are large populations of bluegill hanging out. They love them in the spring. Yes. I agree that using smallet baits would be the way to go, but my muskie fanatic friend would disagree! He says go big or go home. LOL
  6. It's so nice not to have to worry about traffic on a long weekend! Moving to the lake 26 years ago was the best thing I ever did. 15 minutes and I home and on the water!
  7. That's my favourite bait colour!
  8. The lake is already busy enough, I just can't imagine if they fill that island with houses or cottages. So much for historical sites being kept for future generations to enjoy. Developers would use every last piece of land they could get their hands on if they could. All about $$$$$$ I guess.
  9. Wouldn't he need a commercial fishing license for catching and selling?
  10. Sounds like you're planning everything right. The weeds do seem ahead of last year, so It's tough to find the emerging weeds to troll over. Stick to the weed edges and the lower the light conditions the better. You might want to try shallow weeds also if the clarity of the water is a little stained.
  11. You can find pike in the Minden area now.
  12. I live on Pigeon and let's just say it isn't like it was in 1999. Hard to give you a number. You would have some good and some not so good days. I went to Quinte a couple springs ago and two of us caught over 100 walleye in 3 days. We thought we had them figured out, but have not come even close to those kind of numbers since, so that's fishing. Pigeon can be very busy at times throughout the summer and with the clearer water, the walleye fishing is a little tougher these days.
  13. Yes Cliff, our local guy has what you need for jigs and plastics and for a better price on those items. Alway nice to have options though.
  14. Maybe he was trying to scare you away with his behaviour! LOL
  15. Are you talking about gasket maker in a tube? If so, I would wait until you get the right ones. However, there is actual gasket material that can be cut to the proper size, which would be a better option than the stuff in a tube if you want to use something now to get you going. You could then put the right ones in when needed.
  16. Thank you sir!
  17. I am going to be joining a group at the end of June for a fishing trip at Mike's on Lac Dasserat in Quebec and was wondering if anyone has some stories to share about the lake or any tips that you are willing to share. This will be my first time fishing in Quebec and I am very excited about the wilderness. I have seen some pictures of whitefish, walleye and pike. Can't wait!
  18. You slay me!
  19. That is just not fair BB.
  20. I'm sure they keep track of all the tickets and will assign them as void if they don't get $$$$/stubs or tickets back from your Dad. I personally don't like this type of fundraising practice, but it must be successful if they have been doing it forever.
  21. Those have to be the largest perch I have ever seen! Nice haul BB. Have you ever eaten the egss out of those things???? Just wondering what they are like. There should be a whack of boats out there this weekend after everyone sees those pics! Wish I lived closer.
  22. I wish my bill was that low. I think I have to get a hydro audit done. Oh, I also love how they make the bill so complicated that most people don't know what the heck they are paying for.
  23. The best way to stop guys like Torres is to ban him from hockey for a year or two. Losing all that income, the message will get through. Might be severe, but how many guys have to get hurt by him and others like him. Cooke on Pittsburg is an example. His career was being threatened because of his on ice behaviour. He changed his ways this year and made a positive contribution to the team. Don't get me wrong, I love hard hitting hockey, just not the cheap head shots.
  24. There are two lakes that can be portaged to within a short distance from the ramp on Opeongo. One almost directly across from the Opeongo Centre. They are very small lakes though. Moira and Muskrat.
