  1. Yes OI, takes me back too, Lightfoot's " Black Day in July " all over again .
  2. Get a thousand dollar utility trailer for your SUV and bash the crap out of it and not care, coat of black Tremclad now and then if you want.
  3. The Port Colborne 444 Derby set a record this year, 8 Walleye for over 75 pounds, big fish this year http://www.pcdcc.com/
  4. I always used Gapen Bait Walkers with a 3-4 foot leader to the harness, relatively snag proof on rocky bottoms
  5. I worked a few years as a park naturalist, I seen over eager birdwatchers cause nest abandonment by their encroachment on nesting sites as well.
  6. One thing I noticed over my years is that Largemouth started showing up in a lot of lakes, like oligotrophic lakes in Haliburton that were previously Smallmouth only, in the late 70's and increased in numbers. This type of lake was not really largemouth habitat , I suspect well meaning cottagers were the source of the fish but in spite of that they thrived for a while, perhaps the largies are naturally in decline in some areas that they really were not suited for.
  7. exactly, now if you are talking about the old Langley's and Inglis/Shakespeare's , round endplate, direct drive , knuckle dusters I learned on you may want to bring the scissors
  8. Looks good, Coho is , at least to me the best eating of all the salmonoides and trout in Lake Ontario. I never hesitated to thaw and smoke them, one of the books I read on the subject, before the internet , said that freezing breaks down the cells and you get better brine penetration, but a fresh one with bread and diced celery stuffing and wrapped in tinfoil on the BBQ
  9. Don't invite me over if pork or poultry is on the menu
  10. Just shut it down , with the heat and low water some one fishing by the rules catching and releasing could easily kill 4 fish as well.
  11. Seeing it worked all day and failed late in the day, maybe look at the alternator, could not be charging and the battery was down from not being kept up.
  12. did you see this video ??
  13. Bass in Erie are quite a bit larger than when I first started fishing in the late 50's /60's, don't know about the last few years though. Dad took 2nd in a tournament out of Port Colborne in the late 70's with a 4 lb. 1 oz. fish, today with a twoonie that fish would get you a Timmie's.
  14. Happy Dominion Day
  15. So are the posties going on strike or does anybody really care ?

  16. Headed off to U of T in 69, lived next door to Varsity Stadium for 5 years, this was the first concert I hit and the biggest lineup of stars outside of Woodstock in 69.
  17. you probably like Nick Kypreos too
  18. Great report, fished with Bill a few times before he went all featherchucker on me , we worked together 30 years and retired in the same year, great guy.
  19. Could try this place on Mountain Rd here in Grimsby, they stock a lot of boat trailer parts. http://www.hitchmantrailers.ca/
  20. Been living a couple of minutes walk from the shore here for over 30 years, a strong SW wind will frequently push the warm water out and cold water will well up onshore pushing nearshore temps in the 50's, browns are definitely a possibility those days. I think it was better though in the 80's before the zebra mussels and the better water clarity, low light days or evening/daybreaks would be better now. Lots of access between Grimsby pier and Fifty Point.
  21. Real Canadian Superstore is part of the Loblaw's empire, they seem to be a good place for supersize and caselot stuff.
  22. I've often seen groups of bows or cohos sitting just below the surface when up on plane out in the blue zone when it is mirror smooth and sunny.
  23. Glenn Healy is gone with the play by play from between the benches but Maclean is back win some lose some
  24. I remember the limit on brookies being 15 or 1 fish and 10 pounds, which ever is the least, so you could keep 15 pannies or in trophy waters a 7 and 2 x 5's.
