  1. Mine is on an old Fenwick Fenglas steelhead blank, a 1264 or 1262 , a 10 1/2 foot slow action blank, probably 12 or so inches of cork behind the reel seat and 8 inches in front of the seat, similar to a float rod. edit: it's a homebuilt
  2. Definitely a parasitic species, not to be returned to multiply, throw'em in the bushes like gobies.
  3. My experience with Cabelas goes back to the mail order from the US back in the late 80's, at that time I felt they catered to the hunting and fly fishing market as opposed to Bass Pro who were more true to their name. Outfitting for a horseback hunt in the Idaho back country, Cabelas was hands down the best store or Montana blue ribbon river fly fishing trip , again Cabelas was the place. Back in the 70's , early 80's we had the " Outdoor Stores " , oldtimers will remember them.
  4. Dental floss makes a real nice bobber stop with the above knot, plus it comes in a handy little dispenser.
  5. There was a time long ago when the pro circuit boats were limited to 150 hp.
  6. Heat wave, minus 2 F at 11pm when I went to bed, this morning at 5:30 am up to 13 F

  7. Thanks, I see a lot of Garlic Mustard on town parkland here and escarpment walking trails, it's choking out the native vegetation and wildflowers in some areas. Nasty persistent stuff, on the bright side fields that used to be a mass of purple loosestrife seem to have far less purple blooms at that time of the season.
  8. As much as I like music, I want to enjoy the peace, quiet and sounds of nature . No music for me, everything has a place .
  9. What I'm seeing here on the south shore is lots of ice chunks floating around, one day it clear blue water , the next day a heaving mass of white floating chunks, nothing I would dare set foot on.
  10. You must not be old enough to remember the play of Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, wicked elbows.
  11. More from those magic years of the late 60's early 70's, this is a pretty incredible live performance.
  12. I'm a 5 minute walk to the marinas, something like this in a slip ready to go at the turn of a key with all the offshore goodies would work for me. http://www.prolineboats.com/Boats/Express_20.html
  13. Our girl in my avatar is similar, we got her from the SPCA in the summer. My best guess is that she is mostly Vizsla mix, based on her apperarance and disposition/behavior, she is a "velcro dog". Probably got some pit or rotty in there too, she is stockier than a V and the shorter ears. Anyway she looks like she could be a problem to the undesireable element.
  14. The Upper Niagara River is a great place for duck watching in winter, usually a few sea ducks wander inland on occasion to add to your life list.
  15. Last time Leafs lost 10 in a row was 67, won the cup that year
  16. This is still very listenable, they influenced early Led Zep, but then Led Zep took from a lot of places.
  17. 'tis a wonderful morning to be retired, play nice on the highways and biways out there

Just got back from town, not much snow here in the Kawarthas. fired up the snowblower and cleaned things up just because I could.

    3. Old Ironmaker

      Old Ironmaker

had my guy do the drive and walk ways, fit 4 cars and around 50 feet of walkway. All for 20 bucks, no way I'm buying another blower, why would I at that price? No way.

  18. Never had one , but slide in pickup campers were big, back in the 70's/early80's. Large units that had fridge, stove, air, some had a bunk over the cab and overshot the back of the bed by a foot or so, Kitchen table that made into a bunk and a sink of course. When not in use you could drop the legs/stands and jack it up and drive the truck out from under it , leaving it sitting on stands in the driveway. I can't remember the last one I've seen like that, thing of the past. Buddy had one and we used it to go chuck shooting and spec fishing up on the Rocky Saugeen in the summer, way back when. edit: Guess they still make them https://www.google.ca/search?q=pick+up+truck+camper+unit&rlz=1T4GZGN_enCA451CA451&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=TRDOVIXkKtGdygTe74GoCw&ved=0CDYQsAQ&biw=1486&bih=698

I'm glad Toronto has one team to cheer for at least.

  20. Come in for supper at the cottage, leave a stringer in the water at the dock to clean after dinner, snapping turtle gets dinner as well Actually happened more than once, slow learner
  21. The ability to tip up does make ball retrevial, especially with a long boom a lot easier and if they are built like my old ones there isn't a part you can't replace with an Allen wrench and a punch for a roll pin. Only thing I've had to replace over the years is a few pulleys and motor . Nothing you can't easily do yourself. Oh and a fish finder measures distance from the boat not depth when it comes to cannonballs. That is a ball at 80 feet will mark at 100 feet if that is how much cable it takes to get down 80 with blowback factored in.
  22. This is a pretty epic back yard rink, seems we don't have these kind of probs here. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/nhl/is-this-the-best-backyard-hockey-rink-in-canada/ss-AA87k8E?ocid=HPDHP#image=1
  23. 2 Consevation areas that I think would be suitable for your boat are Chippewa Creek Conservation area and Binbrook Consevation area, both have pretty good warm water fisheries, Bass, Crappie and such.
  24. Seems it is a Sabiki bait catching rig, fill it with bread or some kind of bait , the bait fish go for the bait and the occasional rip by the angler impales/snags the baitfish. edit: Seems there are some rigs where the hook is a fly and indeed they actaully take the hook.
  25. Weren't the Frontier line of blanks that Lorne marketed from Loomis Canada, and solely sold in Canada, really made by Batson???
