  1. I wouldn't be draining the oil from the outdrive unless you are going to replace it with new. I can't imagine an I/O is different from an outboard in this regard, leave the outdrive filled for the winter, just make sure the lube is in good shape with no water in it.
  2. In my 20 some years on that lake, Walleye were basically a low or no light light target species, north end of the mid lake ridge was by far the best spot. You might want to try Barnum Lake just on the basis of the recent stocking, it is fairly close by. http://www.hhoa.on.ca/uploads/1/4/2/0/14209292/2013_mindenfishstockinglist-2013-12-17.pdf Edit: I see they are no longer stocking Beanpole or Coburn with splake or rainblows due to access issues, man dad and I spent some great time on those 2 lakes daytripping.
  3. there was a lot of songs about 911, most of it of the patriotic, chest thumping type . I always prefered this one.
  4. Big dark gray Herc from Trenton came over my house at about 500 feet while I was out with the pup, couple of days ago, not surprised to hear this . I checked the news when I came in but did not see anything yet, 30 years of living here that plane flying in that mode usually means missing boater or plane down in the lake. SVS
  5. Even if you could get the GVWR up to the max, seeing you want to go by the book , the .pdf from Ford says to go over 2000 pounds you need to use a weight distributing hitch if I read it corrrectly. Do you really want to go to torsion bars and chains and possibly a sway bar. I can't say that I've even seen a boat trailer in that size even equipped with them ?
  6. this new New York Law has merit and be sure to follow it if you are in international waters. http://nysparks.com/newsroom/press-releases/release.aspx?r=760
  7. I'm pretty thrifty, my wife says cheap but I find Trilene XT 10lb works good if your a Wallis caster , a limper line like XL if you side cast
  8. If they just knew how to make a right turn they would have missed the rocks.
  9. WTH , for a minute I thought Green Coach Dog was back , then I saw the date on the post.
  10. When they are finicky, I've seen a spoon like a lake trout sized Williams Wabbler with a buggy fly like a Wooly Worm trailing on a snell about a foot back take fish. Kinda like the dodger/fly setup that was popular salmon fishing, but the first time I saw the technique I don't think there was salmon in the great lakes yet.
  11. You'll have to supply the leader material , hooks and baiting needle. The top images and technique is very similar to what I do, but I just sew the mouth shut rather than the addition hook, I'm sure their method is equally good. They say the minnow must never spin, true to a point , you don't want the body arched till you get a fast spin but I prefer a very slow roll at trolling speed rather than running straight line. http://www.michigansportsman.com/Tips_n_Trix/sewn_minnows.htm The cut herring approach would be good if using larger baits. This was my Dad's and my standard rigging with downriggers on tough clear Haliburton Lakes. Never needed that much finesse on Lake Ontario. No experience with Simcoe.
  12. Most times just a creek chub or dace. Take a 2 foot piece of about 14 lb mono with a treble tied on the back, take a baiting needle and insert it just forward of the tail and run it out the mouth pulling the loose end of the mono with it, now put a very slight bend in the bait and then run the needle and mono up throught the lower lip out throught the top to keep the mouth closed and maintain the bend, tie to a swivel at the back of the gang troll. If done correctly the bait will rotate slowly behind the troll at trolling speed.
  13. Set of Les Davis Cowbell gang trolls with meat out behind, hands down the best when times are tuff.
  14. Same here , spent about 25 summers on that lake when my parents had a place there.
  15. Personally I wouldn't use a downrigger off the side of a canoe unless it was equipped with an outrigger, especially one with a longer boom.
  16. Have a look here, several of us weighed in on this area a while back. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61167&hl=dudmon&do=findComment&comment=675494
  17. The CAP was a budget model, about 2/3 the price of the 300.
  18. That red gas can is a 50's vintage coke cooler.
  19. http://www.hhoa.on.ca/uploads/1/4/2/0/14209292/2013_mindenfishstockinglist-2013-12-17.pdf Maybe get some leads from this. Browns in the Irondale ??? think they put a few in the Burnt years ago too.
  20. I find them good if you get a domestic call centre, heaven help you if you get an overseas one.
  21. We just use a torrent program, download all our weekly shows here to watch at our convenience. https://eztv.it/ We really enjoy a lot of the British progamming https://eztv.it/showlist/
  22. When I used to make a lot of rods I used " Letraset " to personalize with a name, the gold leaf was nice, they still make it.
  23. I remember as a kid, this would be late 50's, being in Port Dover with the family and cars could not make it up the hill out of town to the east cause the road was slick with mayflies. Fire Dept finally came and washed the road with the tanker truck to get traffic restored.
  24. I see posts by GCD quite often on the iboats forum, he goes by the handle "JignGrub " there. Quite active there and still posting the same old shirtless pics of him holding a fish in the freshwater fishing forum. That's how i recognized who it was.
  25. I've done spiral wraps on rigger rods since the 80's. When loaded heavy in a rigger you don't get the line crossing the blank in between the guides. I've also found that the rod doesn't rotate in the rod holder so that the reel is on the underside as bad. Putting a lot of pressure on a fish during the fight you don't get the rod wanting to twist in you hand so the guides are on the underside.
