  1. $4200 for taxes is insane. I'm paying 3 grand here in Grimsby for a small bungalow and there is a rumour they may actually go down this year. Got a hospital 5 minutes away, can see the lake looking down the street, launch ramp is 2 minutes away, of course all the sewers, water, snow removal, ( they even do the sidewalk often b4 the street), even still have a mailman delivering to the door. Think I would have bailed at the wind turbines.
  2. " Hello my name is Rachelle and I am calling about your credit card status" or something like that Chick calls here on a weekly basis. Edit: seems I'm not alone http://www.marketplace.org/topics/tech/hi-rachel-avoiding-robocall-scams
  3. How old is the boat? I know my older (early 80's) 18 foot Starcraft/Sylvan was rated for up to 140 hp, but , back then a 2 stroke V4 Johnson was only 310 pounds and went up to 140 horses. I had a V4 and a 2 stroke 9.9 on the back, 310 plus maybe 60 for the kicker and I was at the max weight the transom would safely handle. I really don't think you could safely repower with the heavier 4 stroke motors of today, I see now that most 18 foot boats have a wider beam than the 84 inches I had, probably to give the stern more buoyancy for the heavier motors, even an 85 E-tec 2 stroke is as heavy as my old 85 and kicker combined.
  4. You just manually put the line under roller on the stub of the bail arm.
  5. I remember half bails being widely available in the 50's. Luxor, Mitchell, Ambidex and Airex ( made by the Lionel Model Train Company) all had 1/2 bail models. Actually my 1st spinning reels was an Airex Spinster followed by an Ambidex No.4 , both had full bails though. Think you could convert the No.4 to a half bail.
  6. If you want perch , this guy is a slam dunk for a limit usually, launches from Hasting's Ave at Long Point. http://www.bigdavesfishingcharter.com/About-Us.html
  7. I like Bonzo's boy playing with the girls from Heart and his stint in Black Country Communion, here is my favourite LZ video with the old man RIP.
  8. Is anyone missing Brett Lawrie??
  9. Think it is the busiest the weekend of the Pottohawk P-Up, it was fun many moons ago. Bass fishing in the am. party time in the pm.
  10. Worked on a fruit farm during the 60's. No Roundup, actually wish we did have it, we put 2,4 5,T on weeds around the base of fruit trees and in the vineyards, we had some corn too , used Atrazine as a weed killer in the cornfield. 1969 I went to U of T for 5 years, lived near the St George subway stop, bout halfway between Yorkville and Rochdale College, yes I inhaled, still here , to read on the internet you'd think I should be dead by now.
  11. Good luck, that was the place for big Walleye 40 or so years ago. Dominated the ten of the Molson's Big Fish Contest back then, fellow I worked with , topped the Walleye division with a fish of 17 plus in the mid 70's. Some big musky came from there as well, thinking O'Brien caught his 55 there.
  12. Too bad, I was there once on a Dendrology field trip while going to University of Toronto, probably was 1969. We were there for the many and diverse trees and plants , but we got a tour of the inside, really cool. Couple years years later , another field trip, probably for some logging class, we spent several days in the NE corner of Algonquin, we got to visit the big radio astronomy telescope/dish and array of smaller dishes there, also pretty cool.
  13. Get the long shaft and one with electric start and a alternator as well. Depending on how its mounted a pull start can be very awkward.
  14. Nice, as a teen in the 60's we would get those little guys in Welland River/Chippewa Crick up around Wellandport. 30 cm.or a foot is about as big as they got.
  15. Fifty years ago I remember Americans that we met on summer vacation would remark about how clean and litter free our parks and highways were.
  16. Had it happen to me on Lake Ontario probably about 1990 before GPS. Bluebird day and a charter buddy of mine had got a new boat that I had not seen yet. Fishing was dead off Grimsby and he was into them on the radio off Port Credit, I was alone , lots of gas so off I go some 20 plus miles. Yep a 42 foot Post Sportfish is a hell of a boat, and a few cohos in the box too. Time to go home couldn't see the other shore which is normal, takes a real clear day to have 20+ mile visibility on the water, Trusty old Silva Ranger compass from my forestry days and off I go headed south figuring I'd pick up sight of the shore in a bit. Few miles and I was in a pea soup fog, less than a 100 foot visibility, throttle back and continue south, old Lowrance paper graph will tell me when I'm closing in on shore. Finally in about 30 feet of water I make out shore, move in closer trying to get a landmark to see if I am W or E of Grimsby, Takes a minute but there is the Beacon and the QEW bridge at Jordan Harbour, got a fair hike to go west to home. At home looked at the chart on the wall SW would have been a better heading. As a forester I took pride in map/chart compass ability , should have planned a trip like that and at least consulted the chart before leaving but I was younger, the weather was great and went on a impulse.
  17. Some Classic Bonamassa Trio for RDR, London Ontario even. I got into him back in the trio days, still prefer the classic bluesrock of that era at times, Eric was a monster on bass.
  18. That's what I use too, gal friendly too.
  19. http://www.610cktb.com/news/2015/06/10/body-found-in-lake-ontario
  20. How big a boat do you have ? They get a mixed bag of bows and walleye out past Bluff Bar and around the tip of Long Point, but that is at least a 15 mile run and Erie is not a small boat friendly lake.
  21. 9th inning heroics again
  22. With my old 18 foot aluminum centre console , I liked to stand up, you could pick a smoother course through the chop with the better view, once you get up to 4/5 foot swells, you'll do better with a hand on the throttle, throttle up and down with every swell. Went out alone on the big O in a lot of crazy stuff when younger. edit : actually the knees were better at taking the pounding when standing than the butt planted on a seat .
  23. Where does socks with sandals fit in???? cause I there. much to my wife's dismay. Can't stand bare feet in Crocs, feels like slimy fish skin insoles when your feet sweat .
  24. Exactly how I clued in to my first Atlantic over 20 years ago , flatlining inshore just east of here. They were even rarer back then.
  25. yes a research biologist , the local CO don't have that option. Aurora is also a district office, which may have helped too with that being a viable option .
