Teen catches heaviest fish in Colorado history
jediangler replied to danc's topic in General Discussion
He must be a giant kid cause that fish doesn't look 30lbs let alone 51lbs. -
Why wasn't the dog on a leash? I'm not a cat person but that cat had some cahones taking a swipe at the doe.

I wear cycling gloves when I am kayakfishing. The padding in the palms and cloth over the thumbs keeps you from getting blisters.

Timmeh, why don't you check out Yakfisher.net. We are all kayak fishermen in Ontario and some in Quebec. Just tell them the Jedi sent you. I'm actually getting out to Guelph lake tomorrow for my opener, had to work all weekend so this will be my first chance for bass. I'm meeting up with a fellow yakfisher from Orangeville at around 10am. Going to hunt them down in the flooded forest. Other good local spots are Shades Mill, Valens, Kelso, Mountsberg, Wildwood, Gordon Pittock, or even the much maligned Puslinch lake. -
American players have more heart than Canadians? I think you should turn in your citizenship right now for that statement.

Hall wears #4 because he loves Bobby Orr so he's hoping Edmonton passes on him. I'm a Bruins fan so I want Edmonton to take Hall so we can have Seguin, the better player IMO.

Good to see you out fishing with your little one again Cliff. My daughter is fascinated by turtles this year. Everytime we go out in the kayaks that's all she has on her mind.

Here is everything you ever wanted to know about Puslinch lake. http://www.ontla.on.ca/library/repository/mon/6000/10298826.pdf

Puslinch lake is the largest "Kettle lake" in North America. Maybe we should start an organization to protect it by banning all gas motors. Then the water skiers will have to go somewhere else. It's even worse in the winter with guys racing snowmobiles up and down the lake. Seriously the problem is MONEY. Those that live on the lake and the family that has run the waterskiing on the lake for 3 generations have it, and those of us who cartop canoes and kayaks there to fish, don't. If you called the cops they would probably ticket you for something instead of the guy being an idiot.

What are you fishing for? You'll catch pike everywhere, musky and walleye nowhere. There is good bass fishing along the south shore for largemouth and smallmouth.

If they supplied everyone who wanted a card quickly and efficiently, they wouldn't be able to charge you for not having one on the water. Funny how that works . Park your stinkpots and pick up a paddle, we don't need no stinkin' operators cards.

I caught this one in the Grand river in Kitchener today, on a inline spinner while fishing out of my kayak. It was 25.5" long, very thick, and was released right after the photos.
-
A buddy of mine caught this 38" musky in Buckhorn on a tubejig while bass fishing. I caught this little 24" guy on a 1/16oz jig & grub while crappie fishing in Pigeon in a kayak..

Best little image resizer for Windows

I use http://www.shrinkpictures.com and it works great on my Mac. Then again everything works better on a Mac . -
I went 2 for 3 at Sturgeon lake today with my brother Joonmoon in the kayaks. This was the longest at 32". This little twister was crazy. I'm more afraid of injury from the little ones as they are harder to handle. Joonmoon at 6'4" was a tight fit in my old 9'6" kayak. He had some follows but no takers. All fish were hooked on black and gold bucktails.

I think you should be charged by horsepower. Say $1 for every 10hp. Guys with tinnies and 9.9hp pay $10. Guys with 250hp bass boats pay $25. They can afford it. Of course kayaks and canoes would be FREE .
-
How were the crowds? Many other boats on the water?
-
Nothing a big bucktail upside the head wouldn't remedy. If I'm in a canoe or kayak and you're within casting distance when you roar past me, you're fair game in my book. Good to see the new "Operators Card" is delivering more than just money to the government coffers .

Good job yakpiker. A small gaggle of yakfishermen from Yakfisher.net were heading to the islands from Cherry Beach today. Did you hook up with them?

Took the kayak out to Shades Mill in Cambridge today to try for some crappies and pike. I put in at 10am and fished till 2pm and it rained almost the whole 4hrs. I saw two guys in a canoe and three shore fishermen during that time. Just out from the launch and I catch this guy on my first cast. He was the first of 9 crappies that I caught in the first hour, including this one that was 11 inches long and my biggest of the day. All the crappies were caught on a 1/16oz jig & grub combo and released. After the first hour fishing for crappie, I started to fish for pike for the next 2 hrs. I was throwing a #4 BlueFox spinner when I hooked up with this camera shy 18" pike that decided to release itself just as my camera's timer clicked the shutter. My totals for the day were 12 crappies, 1 rockbass and just the one skittish pike. I was lucky the rain stopped when it came time to load the kayak back on the car but all my gear was already soaked.

Here is what the sign looked like before the vandalism. They'll never close Mountsberg to fishing, even if all the fish are gone, they make way too much money from the $10 fee and even more from the $50 fine for not paying the $10 fee. It's all about money at Mountsberg.
-
They don't care about the fishery at Mountsberg, all they worry about is their bird rehabilitation center. I've seen many people poaching both bass and pike before the season opens. I've seen many people keeping over their limit and using live bait during the season. I asked the park workers when they come there to write tickets for those that don't pay the $10 and they just say that they can't possibly patrol and enforce the rules. I started fishing Mountsberg 7 or 8 years ago and it was a really good pike fishery. The last couple of years the numbers and sizes have gone way down.

Probably Shades Mill in Cambridge on Saturday for pike and crappie.

Very cool Victor, thanks for posting.
