  1. Two of my buddies bought new cars last year. One bought a Cobalt and the other bought a Corolla. The Cobalt owner has been razzing the Corolla owner to no end over the last few months. Now the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak.
  2. Don't worry about the NHL players and the 2014 Olympics, they will be there. The owners are holding on to this for a bargaining chip for the next labour contract. They know the players want to go and they'll want something in return for it in negotiations. GO CANADA GO
  3. I have some family vacationing in New Zealand but luckily they are on NZ's west coast side facing Australia and shouldn't be affected by it too much. Update: We have made contact with our family in the area. They had registered with the Canadian consulate after arriving in NZ 3 weeks ago. The Canadian consulate contacted them via email to warn them of the coming tsunami. They have since moved inland to higher ground. They said that before they were contacted they had not heard anything about an incoming tsunami from local sources. The local NZ population is going about their Sunday business as usual with an apparent disregard for these events.
  4. They all deserved a beer and a stogie after that performance. Now the pressure is on for the men.
  5. Cram is right about doing this with other kinds of canoes, it's just dangerous. In our case we never had a close call in 15yrs and that is 445lbs of fishermen in that pic without including the gear, motor, and 66lbs of batteries. The more you weigh a Sportspal down the more stable it gets. And as you see in the pic, we always wear our PFD's.
  6. Last Toronto show I went to was in 2000. It had gone downhill so much compared to previous years that I swore that would be my last. Now I only go to the local Kitchener show and only on the opening Friday when the price is half what they charge for the rest of the weekend. There still aren't any deals to be had but I always have fun telling the guys at the Muskies Canada booth that I like to fish for musky with an ultra-lite rod out of a kayak .
  7. Had this Sportspal with electric motor for fishing for 15yrs before I sold it to OFC member frozen-fire. I attached the transducer for my fishfinder right to the bottom of the motor with a bracket made by Eagle that you can buy or order at any dealer. This way when you get into shallow water and you lift your motor, you are also protecting the transducer from damage. With the display mounted on a frisbee you can move it anywhere in the boat for either fisherman to see. Two quick release, swivel, padded backrest seats and you can fish in comfort for 8 hrs easy. Add two 33lb sealed gell cell batteries from a wheelchair supply store and you can run the motor for the whole 8 hrs if you want. Of course, as soon as you add the trolling motor to your canoe, you will have to go out and get an operators card in order to avoid being fined. That is why I sold my set up and now I fish out of a kayak only. "Operators Cards?...We don't need no stinking Operators Cards"
  8. The switching hands thing is not a problem once you get used to it. I have right hand baitcasters that when I cast, I switch hands and start retreiving before the bait hits the water. I only use baitcasters for fishing musky and most times I'm throwing bucktails so I like the bucktail to hit the water already moving rather than spalsh and sink for a second. It takes practice but so do all different presentations for many different applications. Here in Canada most anglers start out with a spinning reel with the handle on the left side and find the change difficult to adapt to.
  9. Monster can go back to sweden or the KHL and Burke and the Leafs have nothing to say about it.
  10. Try Emily PP near Omemee. It's on Pigeon river just south of Pigeon lake with good fishing for largemouth, walleye and musky. http://www.ontarioparks.com/ENGLISH/emil.html
  11. I received a PM and sent these pics to trouting101 but thought I should post them here as well, in case anyone else is thinking of adding swivel, quick release seats to their Sportspals. I added hockey sticks to raise and strengthen the existing wooden seat cross bars to support the weight of my fairly stout fishing partner and lift the seating position a few inches. With the added height we never had so much as a close call and didn't notice any difference in balance or tippiness. The black squares are the quick release mounts, the seats (with swivel bases attached) slide easily into them and lock into place. By lifting the lever with one finger the seats will slide right back out again for storage in your trunk so you can car-top the Sportspal. My buddy copied my design on his smaller Sportspal and brought his dog along to stand guard. This way you have seats that are so comfortable you can spend all day on the water and still car-top the boats at the end of the day. Anyone with any other Sportspal questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.
  12. Toskala was good, before he came to Toronto. Chances are he'll be good again once he goes somewhere else, kinda like Raycroft on Saturday night. Boston does take penalties but they have the 2nd best penalty killing record after San Jose. If you can't kill penalties (Leafs are the league worst penalty killers) don't take them.
  13. Burke had to do something after last nights epic fail to the hands of the Canucks or else the papers and tv sports guys would be talking about that game all week. Now they will be talking about the trades and that game will be forgotten.
  14. At least with Elisha Cuthbert being traded to the leafs today, leaf fans will have something pleasant to look at when they go to the ACC. Thanks again for the 2 firsts and a second rounder for Kessel, Mr. Burke. Word is that the "Monster" is regretting signing with the Leafs instead of the Dallas Stars and plans to try his luck with another team after July 1st rather than re-sign with toronto.
  15. Giguere was a good goalie once, just like Toskala. Everyone but Hagman and White were useless for the leafs so they might miss those two. Picking up another penalty taking defenceman is a real head scratcher but you know how Burke likes his goons. It will be easy to tell if these were good moves or not. The Leafs sit in 29th place right now, if they can gain any spots, it will be a success. If they stay 29th or get caught by the Oilers and end up 30th it will be deemed a failure. Except to me (Bruins Fan) I'm loving the chance to pick high in the 1st round this year and next year as well. The only upside I can think of is Elisha Cuthbert (Dion's GF) will come to some games and get some quality camera time watching her man get frustrated and taking penalties for the leafs.
  16. My 1994 is a Lexus GS300 so I know it was built in Japan and my 1997 is a Tercel that was also built in Japan. These models were never built in North America. As far as the caravans go, they must all still be on the road because autotrader only found one 1995 caravan for sale and no 1994's.
  17. I'm a Toyota guy and have been for a long time, this doesn't change the way I think about them as a manufacturer. I don't care about all these recalls because my Toyotas are considerably older models and were made in Japan not North America. Say what you will but my 1994 and 1997 are still going strong. How many Fords, Chryslers and Chevs can you say that about?
  18. I saw them open up for "The Cult" in Waterloo when they were touring for "Appetite". They were so bad they were booed offstage 3 songs into their set. 6 months later they were bigger than "The Cult". I don't get it. I guess videos are more influential than actual talent.
  19. I went from a 14' Sportspal with 30lb electric trolling motor to a 12' kayak with a paddle. No regrets, and no need of an "Operators Card" either.
  20. In the history of the maple leafs only one coach has ever won the Jack Adams trophy for coach of the year. That was Pat Burns in 1993. The maple leafs have NEVER had a Norris Trophy winner for best defenceman. The last maple leafs Vezina Trophy winner for best goalie was in 1965 Bower/Sawchuk. Coaching, defence and goaltending. These are the things championships are built on.
  21. All these models mentioned are made in North America by Canadians and Americans including the Lexus model. These are not imports but domestics and do not reflect the quality of vehicles made in Japan.
  22. I applaud rather than condemn Toyota for these recalls. Did you remember how hard it was to get Ford to take responsibility for the roll overs on the Explorers a few years back? They spent all their time trying to blame tire manufacturers rather than coming out and taking the heat themselves. They hired the tire company to make a tire at Ford's specs for the Explorer. They would have kept on making unsafe vehicles if not pressured into taking responsibility.
  23. A few alterations Kinger and this could be converted to a bong holder.
  24. You won't need an auger, if you take an ice spud along you can just re-open someone else's hole. Hint: look for a hole with some evidence of fish being pulled out of it. Either blood or scales nearby would be a good sign. Try Puslinch lake too.
