  1. 5W-30 isn't too bad. I do prefer a bit of graphite if I use anything but you should be ok with the 5W-30. Anything that gets stickey when it is really cold will just make it harder for the bendix to throw out and return and since most snow blowers sit in the cold until needed..... I often see blowers come in that someone has serviced themselves and they have greased the gears and slider under the blower then they can't shift it when it gets cold LOL.
  2. Grease is not a good thing to do, it will freeze in cold weather. They are desigined to be run with them dry or you could put a bit of graphite on it but it's better dry. Before you ruin another bendix, remove it and get rid of the grease.
  3. Could just be that the bendix is stuck and it isn't throwing it out to the flywheel. There should be a plastic cover over it, remove the cover and try to move the bendix out to the flywheel (you'll have to turn it by hand DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS WITH THE MACHINE RUNNING OR WHILE TRYING TO START IT). While you are at it, check the teeth on the bendix If they are chewed up then you need a new bendix. Check that and let me know.
  4. Better that they got it wrong than you LOL.
  5. What Sinker said, I too use an 870 and no problem at 70-100 yards with a slug. Now I do have one place where I hunt and use buckshot, actually I use a Remington 3" magnum 00 buck buffered load and the longest shot I have made with it was about 70 yards and I did drop the deer. The thing most guys do wrong with buck shot at the longer distances is they think they have to aim high, believe me you don't, hold right on target or you will be shooting over the deer. (same thing goes for slugs too) At 80 yards you are going to have "about" a 4' spread, with 15 pellets (lots of variables here, barrel length/choke/buffered/non buffered/ ........ (and they will still have plenty of volicity) there is a very good chance you will put a couple in the lung/heart area. I'm not suggesting that you go out with 00 buck and start shooting deer at 70 or 80 yards but it is capable of dropping a deer at that range. As for damage to the meat, I've seen as much or more damaged meat from slugs as I have from buck shot, again so many variables! As for your gun choice; well I have had my Remington 870 for probably 25 years now, it has been dragged through the mud, wet, frozen, in short used hard and this thing just keeps doing it's job. Not fancy but a good solid well built gun!
  6. Well, the last time I was there everything was done differently than when we use to do it, they seem to have evolved and I didn't feel like I was able to contribute much so I have sort of steped back and let them do their thing. I'm not even sure if it is going to be on this year or not, I haven't heard anything and it is only 8-10 weeks away from when it would normally be held. I'm sure there will be some sort of a G2G regardless and if there is we'll have to hook up for that!
  7. When they first came out I and nearly all my fishing buddies bought them, they look great but apart from that I don't think any of us ever did catch too many fish on them. Mind you, we aren't pros.
  8. In my opinion he was harassing the cops while they were trying to do their job. Record it; by all means but if you aren't going to be part of the solution then stay out of the way! They had their hands full as it was trying to get her to settle down. That idiot shooting his mouth off wasn't helping at all. But that is just MHO
  9. I stand corrected LOL. I didn't think anyone installed anything but high efficiency units anymore. When we bought this place it had an oil furnace in it. Then they told me I had to get a new oil tank because mine was too old, (about $700.00 to remove the old one and install a new one) then they told me I had to install a SS liner in my chimney and that was going to be about $700.00. The next day I ordered a propane furnace and that was the end of that nonsense!
  10. Kudos to the cops, I'm afraid that if it had been me that idiot with the camera would have been arrested too right after they took him to the hospital to remove the camera! I was also disapointed that his partner didn't do more to help control the situation.
  11. Unless you had an oil fired hot water heater I think you just got sold a liner you didn't need! My gas fired one uses plastic pipe and just vents through the wall. I just heard that Reliance was sued for 2.2 million because of water heater problems causing damage and lost (they have appealed it)
  12. I prefer the silk frilly stuff myself
  13. I'll echo what many of the others have said; don't make a big deal out of it! As with thunder storms or anything else, if you just take it all in stride so will they!
  14. I use a paid version of Norton and it seems pretty good for the most part! I did try to see if it was a program I could turn off, couldn't find it. Went into my setup and selected Google as my search engine, even made Google my only search engine but that stupid program kept turning Google back off and making itself my search engine. Installed that Malwarebytes and ran it; 125 "problems" found. Deleated them all, restarted my computer and all seems good now.
  15. Thanks Art, that seems to have done the trick! Much appreciated!
  16. Just quit rolling the machines, you will save yourself a lot of trouble
  17. In the last couple of days every time I try to go into my internet it comes up with http://www.mysearchresults.com/?c=9003&t=08 I am getting ticked off because this stupid site keeps flashing this advertisement telling me to update my computer to make it faster. I want Google as my home page! Everytime I go into my settings and select Google as my home page then try to access it again, it works once then unselects Google and goes back to the mysearchresults.com. HELP!
  18. Who ever said "dumb animals" never owned a dog LOL.
  19. I think that part of the requirement for getting a drivers license should be attending and showing ability in a skid control school. Too many people get a license on a nice sunny dry day and the first time they hit ice or snow they panic and there it goes. I had some chinese food delivered last night, paid the man, 20 minutes later he was back at my door, he couldn't get out of my driveway (it does have a bit of a slope to it) he wanted to know if I would give him a push. (I don't push cars anymore) I just walked past him, got into his van, backed it out of the driveway without spinning a tire and parked it on the road for him. As he left he said "thank you, I go home now!" I thought to myself GOOD IDEA! When I was a kid growing up in Quebec we'd often drive down the road and jam on the E brake and do 360s just for the fun of it (with 4-5' snow banks you couldn't do much damage if you did loose it LOL). It really taught us how to handle our cars on bad roads.
  20. Saddly some people just don't get it no matter what you do! After the third DUI (three strikes and you our out) he should have been put in jail for 10 years. How could he even get a license after the second one? If they ever make the punishements suitable to the crime, there will be a lot less crime.
  21. So there, it's settled Santa should bring him a chemestry set for Christmas so you can both have fun making stink bombs and gun powder! I'm sure mom will be pleased LOL.
  22. Thanks! Based on all the input from you guys I decided on a Brantford White power vent, Defender series. I did end up going the rental route because by the time I factored in the instalation costs and purchase price it worked out (based on a 10 year life span of the tank) to about $24.00 a year more to rent it than to buy it and pay to have it installed. I also never have to worry about service so for about $240.00 for 10 years coverage I figured it was worth it. The one thing I did when the installers came was insist that they set the tank up on a patio slab so that if there is ever any more water problems in the basement there is no way the tank can be sitting in the water. I should have hot water in about 1/2 an hour, the wife will be pleased!
  23. Thank you all so much for your ideas and input and Art I was really hoping you'd chime in here and I really appreciate it! The tank that was in here was a Reem Power Vent so everything is in place for a new power vent to be installed. The one we had was only about 8 or 9 years old and it was serviced every year. We still have no idea why it failed though, I guess they will try to figure that out once it has been removed. The insurance company has asked me to hold on to it for further inspection. One thing I did learn though is that it is a good idea to have a shut off valve both on the cold water input and the hot water output from the tank. Our problem was complicated because although I immediatly shut off the gas and cold water supply to the tank, water continued to back feed through the hot water line every time we opened one of our fancy swing type taps (I'm sure there is a proper name for them). This meant that for two days I kept adding more water to the problem but I didn't know it because everything was so wet. Everything is dryed out now, the insurance adjuster was here yesterday, all I am waiting for is the quotes from the contractors which I should have today and the work can begin. They tell me that they should have it all finished by Christmas and we'll be back to normal. The only real down side to the whole thing is that Sue had a collection of Daniel Steel books going right back to her first book. Many of them were first edition and many had been gifts from her mother and I and we had written inscriptions in them. Saddly they were all ruined and while the books themselves could be replaced, the sentemental value is gone forever. Well as they say; there is no point crying over spilt milk or flooded basements!
  24. Yup, a little bit of sulpher, charcoal, and saltpeter; put a big black spot on the celing in my bedroom and filled my bedroom with smoke LOL. Mom wasn't impressed! Learned how to make rockets, smoke bombs, a little canon that would fire a marble farther than you could see it not to mention a bunch of very nasty smelling things that I some how produced. Now I remember why I never gave my kids a chemestry set LOL.
  25. Fantastic report and beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing!
