  1. I've used them for a couple of years now, reasonable prices.
  2. Bells ramp has half the concert slab blown out due to ice. Might be iffy with a heavy boat, quite a bit of sand. Apparently they are replacing it, but it might be a few weeks.
  3. Stormy launch is great. The Restoule PP launches aren't worth a darn. As mentioned, use the launch in Restoule. It's off, wait for it.... Government dock road lol. I've had good success in both Stormy and Restoule, but you need to put some time in. I only do well when I don't have kids in the boat. A day trip to North bay is worthwhile depending how long you are there. Worm harnesses trolled slow will keep the kids entertained, tough to find keepers though. Great launch off Premier road right in town. Have fun.
  4. If the engine has a decompression feature that would account for those numbers. Most quads with a rope starter have a decompression lever or you'd tear your arm out of the socket trying to turn one over.
  5. WORD!!!!! You can buy a whole lot of tin boat for $5K
  6. I really am not sure with the 30, so I am talking out my proverbial behind here. When I bought my 50, compression from a cold (it was minus 8 out at the time) was around 175 across all cylinders. Factory spec called for 199psi. I was satisfied because the engine was cold, and it was a 1999. It runs great and carries a 16 foot boat with full interior and console, 2 guys at 230lbs a piece, 3 batteries and full of gas and gear at 30mph in perfect conditions with a tail wind. I likely wouldn't have bought the boat with 135 on all cylinders. BUT, it's not a 30hp. I suggest you call a honda dealer, explain the situation and see if they will give you the factory compression for your motor. They should be able to help you out with year also. Hopefully your compression is good for the year/motor. Good luck with it.
  7. Yes, I think the factory spec calculates it at 500 rpm. Most ATV's need to be tested with the throttle open as well. If you run it until warm on the muffs before the test, you''re likely get your best readings. I'm sure it will turn out ok, but it just rules out one more thing. Good luck.
  8. If it's running at 100 psi, it won't matter how close the cylinders are compression wise, you probably have issues. Keep in mind I'm quoting numbers for a 50HP, but I imagine the 30 would be similarily high. Remember to advance your throttle when doing the test. Good luck.
  9. My 50hp calls for almost 200psi factory new, but it is electric start, I believe the electric start honda 30 would be somewhere close to 200 as well. Don't know about a manual start, might call a honda dealer, or try iboats.
  10. Have your buddy do a compression test if he hasn't already done one.
  11. I've often thought of buying one. I have 3 kids now, and it would be nice to have on the poor weather days. But storage and additional maintenance turn me off. I have 2 boats, and one more trailer to deal with would throw me over the edge. My driveway is only so big. I just go with a large 10x10 tent with a massive vestibule for sleeping, a second smaller tent for the kids to play in/read etc. and a screen tent for dinner. It works, but I have a full size pickup, so tons of room for storage. I have seen some excellent deals in NY state on pop up campers, something to consider even with the exchange rate it could be worth it.
  12. A ball is $7 at princess auto. Probably worth it to just get a new one.
  13. 10 power binocs can be a bit fiddly. I am a hunter, and use an 8 power as a general rule, I find 10's hard to focus quickly in the bush and you lose some field of view. I think 10's could be a bit difficult to focus with in boat that is bobbing around. I use 8 power steiners and have been very happy with them.
  14. As long as they can't drive down your street pressing your garage door opener until they get the right house, your good to go. Otherwise, make "home" a couple streets over!
  15. Crap happens, and it generally happens fast. If you ever end up in the water, the cavitation plate on your motor is your best friend. There are better options, like a boarding ladder but if your boat is not so equipped, the rear of the boat using the motor as a step is the best option.
  16. There was a rod missing from the boat. I believe they are speculating, but it's a pretty good guess. I have nearly gone in once or twice fighting a king in a some chop. If you where on your own....
  17. Well perfect timing with your post, I was just thinking of the same thing for our month end trip to Restoule.
  18. By and large, peoples priorities are backwards. Moreso in urban areas. A bear protest. Now I've heard everything.
  19. Cash grab. It's your money, but I don't even treat my dog.
  20. If you use any data from precision trolling, I believe that the diameter of 30lb power pro is pretty close to the diameter of 10lb xl which most of the data is based on. Last time I checked anyway. I don't hardly replace power pro once its on a reel. Just turn it around once every 3 years or so, and sometimes cut a few feet off.
  21. I'm not 25 my friend.I never said you had to be happy with nanny state items. However there are a few people on here, as there are on every forum that hate law enforcement. It's one thing to be annoyed by over regulation. That's one thing everyone understands. My commentary was directed at the fact that this thread will eventually turn into another hate the cops thread becaus of a couple of individuals. On another note, I sure wish some of these kawartha tinners would hold up that cheap light from the safety kit while out jigging for pickerel in the main navigation channels without running lights. It sure would help with the pucker factor when I'm trying to navigate in the dark. I use a spotlight for their safety, you'd think they'd at least shine a pen light for mine. Hell even my duck boat has running lights!
  22. These threads always take a turn because of 3 or 4 or guys who are on every website from guitar sites, car sites to fishing sites who hate authority, and any kind of law enforcement. They will tell you otherwise, that they just don't like the silly little laws, but in reality they hate the police. It would be much easier if they where just honest about it with themselves and everyone else. At least then your bias is out in the open. There are a lot of things I can't abide, but at least I'm up front about them.
  23. I have real safety equipment for emergencies, and then I have the orange kit from Canadian tire that I hold up for marine police. I check my batteries every spring and throw an extra set of double A's in the bottom of the orange kit. Keeps me out of trouble! Good reminder.
  24. I hear ya, but I won't bargain with guys over the net or on the phone with high ticket items either. Cash in person is king every time. Everyone else usually gets written off as a tire kicker.
  25. Have you been to see it yet?
