Go with Gerrits suggestion! My buddy did the same thing!

My buddy runs this boat, 1996 I believe. He's had it for almost 15 years now with no issues. It offers a very smooth ride in rough water, and has been an excellent multi species boat. I've fished out of it quite a bit. Its still in excellent condition, and the hull has held up great even though its seen a lot of poundings on lake Ontario. His is powered by a 150hp, and it moves it along quick. I'd buy one in a second if it was in good shape.

Same deal on buckhorn. Crappie weren't where they usually are in any numbers, and the pickerel we really had to work for. The last 2 years have been fantastic. I think the low water levels just upset the apple cart a bit. Thats fishing!

Saw one in action linked to an XI5 very briefly. I was set to pick up and ipilot unit off a guy I know, and came across a guy selling a slightly used XI5 on here. He showed me all the features of his new unit linked in to a gen 3 and it blew my mind a bit. I ended up buying the XI5 instead (which is unbelieavable by the way). Gen 3 is a bit out of my price range as I just got a Raymarine unit, but I will be looking for a used gen2 to replace my bowmount with eventually so I can link the XI5. I don't know how much practical experience you will hear about this side of the border yet. Most guys are probably just getting into the swing of things with them. He did mention that the Gen 2 updates brought the 2/3 into pretty close competition. I have chirp on my Ray. The jury is still out on this as far as I'm concerned, even after using it all weekend. You could try looking for more info on walleye central. Those guys are pretty hardcore when it comes to the latest and greatest and no doubt there will be a bunch of guides that have used the gen 3 a lot.

It's completely backwards, and so are the folks who push for it. Like I said before, Way bigger issues out there than pictures of fish that get tossed back 90% of the time anyway.

Whoops, double.

If he didn't call to tell you it was sold, he was a jerk. BUT, I don't blame him for a second for selling it. To many flakes on kijiji. I don't hold anything for anyone off of kijiji. These types of forums are a bit different in that you have a bit of an idea what people are about, and I'll hold things and take a chance when I wouldn't consider it with kijiji. Sorry to hear you missed out on it.

Way bigger issues out there than this. Looks like the Internet nannys have finally won in NY.

I have a 50 as well. Truthfully the amount of trim I use is minuscule. The best feature of trim is adjusting the motor in shallow water and when trailering etc. I love it for that. Otherwise, I don't think it will make a whole hell of a lot of difference on a 30. And I used to have a 30 2 stroke. I run a 20 on my duck boat, and trim would be next to useless. Anyway, If you have an extra $450 in your pocket, then go for it. At least you wont have to manually hoist the motor!

I am a milk crate guy also. If it doesn't fit in the milk crate, it doesn't go in the boat. Cuts down on dragging piles of needless tackle also. I make rope handles on each side of the crate so it's easier to carry. This way I can see everything easily and change out Plano boxes depending on what I'm doing that day. Average milk crate cost at your local goodwill or thrift shop is about $2, so it goes along with the dollarama theme!

A good all around is 3/4, as sometimes you can be jigging in current at 40 feet plus depths. Some guys use an ounce, but I think it's seldom required and I've only used jigs that heavy in the deepest water when I wanted a big profile jig/grub. We use 5/8th and occasionally 1/2 ounce in tighter to shore. Basically the lightest you can get away with and stay vertical.

Great vid! We have had some fun times on the D and boated some real hogs! Still looking for a decent B&B or motel in Lasalle. It's an exhausting day trip and sleeping in the truck sucks! Not so keen on Windsor, when the Metro needs a security guard, I don't hold out much hope for my boat LOL.

No advice to offer, but that looks like an early 90's Phazer. If so, great boat! You'll be very happy once you've put the work into it! Good luck, and look forward to seeing the finished product!

Some guys have obviously never had to deal with dock rings. Best way I can describe it is put one loop inside another, tighten and repeat. It's an easy knot to learn, but kinda hard to describe. We use them all the time at the local government dock. Can't say I've ever left a boat tied that way for more than 4-6 hours. Our dock has cleats. Nothing on YouTube?

Dude is a new fisherman and is just happy to have caught a fish . It's been a long time but I still remember that feeling. True, no one was very harsh, but those guys just haven't showed up yet. When they get here, they'll be berating the way he handled it, or that it was out of the water, or laying on a rock or whatever else they can think of. I'm just happy to see a guy who is happy he finally caught something. Fishing, some people take it way too seriously!

For my money, if you buy a quality fluoro line, it makes zero difference if you use it for leader material. I've tested that on countless fish. When I can buy a 200 yard spool for just a bit more than a little spool of leader material, I'm buying the bulk spool every time. It's your cash, buy what you prefer. Me I like to save a few buck when there is no real performance difference to me. Both sunline and seaguar yellow box work great as leader line. Abrazx is pretty much junk, even though they market it as being more abrasion resistant. For pickerel, I use Fluoro every time I run a braid rod. With mono rods I don't bother. If you need the reassurance then buy the seaguar STS 10LB. It's cheap and it's good. Good luck.

I've been using regular seaguar yellow package as leader material for years. Just way more economical than the leader spools. I've never had an issue. I recently have been using the seaguar salmon trout steelhead 10lb leader for pickerel, and it's great, but the only reason I bought it was because it came in 100yd spools for a good price. I go through a crap ton of leader throughout the year, so savings is an issue for me. Sunline is also good stuff. I really like the 7lb test for bows.

Snap weights way better for shallower water. Can't get much easier to use either. I love big dipseys but I wouldn't bother with those little buggers either. Easier ways to skin the cat!

I have CHIRP on my new Raymarine unit. I honestly don't know how much of a difference it makes in shallower water. It sure does give nice returns, but my bird 597 did as well. I'll know more after the may long weekend as I'll be on the water for 4 days in a row fishing a variety of depths and structure. As far as humminbird vs Lowrance, both make great units. Birds from 10-12 years ago where crap, I had one and it was useless for much more than a paperweight, and Lowrance was where it was at then. Bird has closed that gap in a big way, and if I hadn't wanted touch screen I'd of stuck with the humminbird unit I had.

I have 2 12" cannon tracks on my boat. They come with mounting bolts. So far so good, I really like them. I have heard that they show wear moreso than some other track systems, but who cares it's a fishing boat! I don't know much about well nuts, other than a bit of light reading I did researching trolling motors. Apparently guys use them for mounting trolling motors on some bass boats and glass rigs. I don't know how well they'd hold up over time with prolonged trolling and 12lb balls. Probably best to post on spoonpullers, those guys would know.

Best mom/pop diner on the way to Rice?

Truck stop at Bowmanville. You won't get "ma and pa" but the food is good. -
Costco. They have an excellent cranking/deep cycle battery for $120, and group 27 deep cylces for the bowmount for $100. I picked up a new to me boat this spring with a 50 honda. I replaced the cranking battery with the costco starting batt, and it works great. Their return policy is excellent as well. 12 months over the counter, and 36 month pro-rated. I have 2 other costco batteries and they have been good to me. For your bowmount 40lb, the 27 series should run it all day.

Needs that humminbird 360 deal, and a power pole!

I would spend all day sorting out that mess!! That would be a great haul!
