  1. I'm in. I was tossing lures for them for the first time in ages a few days ago. Its just not fun anymore. 20lb fish in an 8 foot deep estuary. Blah. Get rid of the chinooks and be done with it!
  2. I've use tremclad on tthd cottage tinnie before, it's pretty good. I've painted quite a few duckboats as well, but not in any colour you'd be interested in. If you strip to bare aluminum, makes sure you use a self etching primer designed for aluminum. I've also used the tremclad primer for galvanized metals, and it worked okay. If your just painting over top of the original stuff, then a good sanding and spray any bare patches with the primer before paint. Warmer weather to cure the paint, and multiple light coats should turn out a nice job!
  3. 99 Lund rebel side console with 50hp honda. Best conditions, with 2 and gear, 30MPH. Don't know how much more I could get with a different prop, as that is close to redline. I generally run around 26-27mph when I need to get somewhere.
  4. We aren't getting out of the Middle East no matter who is in power. They can rant and rail all they want while trying to get elected. When the rubber meets the road, we will stick with big brother, if we want to keep their shield and sword handy. This country has stayed strong and free for a long time under the shadow of our friends and cousins in the US. We are a very attractive place, and will walk lockstep with US interests to keep it that way. As for refugee's?? We have always extended a hand, and I don't see any virtue in opening the floodgates without figuring out just who your allowing in. We have a long history of helping others, sometimes you have to watch out for your own first.
  5. Nice tank!
  6. Me neither.
  7. Lots of steelhead to be had, pickeral fishing can be exceptional. I love both, and often have a hard time choosing. Should keep you busy!
  8. While I think someone sending you private messages to complain about your posts is a loser move, I agree with the poster above that said most of your posts have a pretty strong commercial element. I don't begrudge you your success, but I have been against private web forums being used in any way to promote commercial gain without due consideration to the forum owners, and members being told by way of a site sponsor logo or the like, that the entity is commercial. Take channel 6-8 for example. You can clearly see who is paying to play. There are a lot of posts that I will either pass on, or have a cursory glance at here because I know they are basically an advert. Nonetheless, the site owners here seem happy with the arrangement, so it's none of my business, and generally I'd say nothing, but seeing as how you brought it up in a public forum, I'll give you another perspective. Best of luck with your ventures!
  9. Used to happen to my old commuter civic. Apparently there was a cable, or linkage that got a bit seized up. My mechanic lubricated it every so often and all was good. Apparently it's not that big of a deal to have replaced. Not sure about Jimmy's, but just another thought.
  10. Real nice fish dude!
  11. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with that unit!
  12. Ugly sticks are fantastic trolling rods, in have 2 that see use almost every outing. I occasionally pull crawler harnesses with rod in hand and a light bell sinker with an ugly stick as well, and I can even detect perch nibbles no problem. I don't think I'd call them lacking in sensitivity. Sure I have high end rods that can feel a mouse fart, but an ugly stick for $35 is pretty decent value in my books.
  13. St. croix sells boxes of warranty return rods. I buy busted rods from my local tackle shop with anywhere from 2-6 inches missing from them all the time. I have some $350 rods that I payed $15 for and they work just fine with a new tip guide. I wouldn't worry about it, you can fish it as is. Ugly sticks are pretty durable all around rods, and can be had for $35 on sale at Canadian tire often enough, if you want to buy new.
  14. Then go for a 14 foot deep and wide aluminum with a 15-20hp motor on a trailer if you've got the spare cash. You'll be much happier.
  15. Buy a sportspal flat back canoe and a 4hp tank on top motor and you'll be all set. They are very stable and you can get away with a roof rack.
  16. Xi5 pedal is wireless. It is also a heel toe pedal like a cable steer. Turns are also extremely fast for an electric steer.
  17. I remove the top arm of my bottom bouncers. I run just the length that has the weight. I then put a snap swivel through the top, and I hang my bouncers off my main line from a heavy plastic quick change clevis if I'm in snag infested waters, or if I'm running just weed and sand flats, I hook the swivel into the back eyelet of the swivel on my main line. This allows me to rig my rods with harnesses, and run them in the rod holders while travelling without having bouncers flopping around. Then it's just a matter of a quick snap, and I can put a bouncer on or change weight easily. I run dedicated rods though, that are always set up with a snap swivel with a clevis right behind it. I just use these rods for bouncing.
  18. Hot damn, I'm heading to pigeon with my boat a blanket and a couple of my kids. I love wild rice!!
  19. Well, I won't say one unit is better than the other. Both will do the job. I do believe that a lot of the "issues" that people speak of with the xi5 stemmed from a few users on walleye central. Otherwise I haven't seen a lot of unhappy customers. I haven't had any glitches with mine, other than a rare momentary GPS signal loss, but I've seen that with the minn kota's First hand as well. Long term, who knows, but I run mine probably way more than the average guy who pulls up on a spot and drops his motor, fishes for a bit then yanks it and moves to the next spot. Most times I drop it in the water at the start of a troll, and then run it constantly for hours. So far it's been flawless. I am not a this is the best cause I own it type of guy, just very satisfied with the unit. Motorguide got it right from the get go with the xi5. I've met a few guys with xi5s on their boats since I got mine, and I haven't met one actual user that told me they where dissatisfied. No reason a Minnkota wouldn't do the same job though.
  20. To the best of my knowledge the xi5 won't mount to the old mounts. If you have a motorguide wireless, it's a totally different mounting system. I'm not familiar with the power steer model though.
  21. I was about to pull the trigger on a Terrova, and unexpectedly came upon a deal on a lightly used Xi5 55lb thrust from a local guy, so I took a chance. It came with universal sonar and a key fob as well as a wireless pedal. It is the best accessory I have ever bought for a boat. I have been in boats with Terrova's and they are fine motors. The only real difference is the Xi5 is slightly quieter, and the spotlock is much tighter than any Terrova or PD equipped boat I've been in. I spent 15 minutes hanging in place in front of our dock in 30kph winds and the boat moved at most a couple feet off of where I'd locked it down. It also can record up to 8 tracks I believe, and I think MK does 6. That certainly wouldn't be much of a deal breaker for me though. If you fish pickerel it's amazing for precision trolling. I can lock in my speed and heading, and other than watching for other boat traffic I can spend my time managing lines, landing fish etc. I fish with my kids a lot, and sometimes one of their friends so I often have a bunch of rods down. Makes life easy! I have a similar sized boat, with side console and 50hp motor. The 55lb is tons of power. I get about 6 hours if I'm trolling a lot. The only thing I will do when I need a new battery is get a group 31. Either way, Terrova or Xi5, it's money well spent! Edit to add, the motorguide uses another mounting system, so the QR you have won't likely work. It's got its own specific QR bracket, that is very hard to find in Canada. The upside is that a standard aluminum MKA 16-02 mount from Minnkota can be modified to work, that's what I did.
  22. Good thread, no need for the unflattering comments!
  23. Nothing quite so deluxe. I bought the last display model they had left. I ran in and bought it, and am picking it up later in the week. Not sure exactly which one, but it looked pretty good lol.
  24. I bought a broil king this afternoon, half price. Apparently it was made in waterloo. Good warranty as well. Hopefully it lasts.
  25. My local Rona has 50 percent off all in stock BBQ's. FYI for anyone that is looking. They sell broil king, I think I'm going to grab one.
