I think it can be very easy to misunderstand issues on the other side of the country. Wolves are apex predators, and much like killing grizzlies or muskies, people form opinions not based on sustainability or science, but more with emotions. Perhaps with dogs being man's best friend, that stirs up more emotions about predator hunting. In my respectful opinion, I think it's naïve to expect nature to sort itself out, there are very few places left in the world where that is true. Nature can only resolve and sort itself out, if human activities are fully removed from the equation, but society is simply too involved in the wild, directly and indirectly. Natural resources and wildlife need to be managed, and there a lot of views on how to do that. These wolves are not anything like Algonquin wolves, they are not endangered, they are not rare. I live in the South Peace and I've had a few lucky glimpses of the Moberly caribou, and also another herd near Grande Cache across the AB border. The number one track we see in the woods...wolf tracks. In the past hundred years we've gone from one extreme to another, extermination to full protection, even protection against the benefit of other species, there needs to be middle ground. Trapping has a stigma against it, not many people have the time to run a trap line nowadays, and the average hunter effort is not effective on wolves. Wolves get a free pass to expand and run rampant. Logging, exploration, and backcountry snowmobiling are huge factors that put the odds in favour of the wolves, essentially creating highways for wolves to travel easily. This cull is simply trying to improve odds for the caribou, giving them a fighting chance, without the cull the caribou will lose.

Only one lure. What would it be?

can use different sizes, but only one colour? I'd say a chartreuse jig head with a yellow grub on it -
Mrs. Moosebunk Could Use Some Photo Contest... "Likes."
bare foot wader replied to Moosebunk's topic in General Discussion
moosebunk, I voted for your wife, amazing fish, best fish in the contest imo but small world, I've actually fished with Ooberfish, truly passionate about fishing and nothing fishy, just connected on the social media front, which is kinda what those contests are about -
I use my canadian tire master card instead of cash (other points cards too) and pay off the balance in full...no annual fee on the crappy tire card and the points add up quick...just make sure you spend within your means and pay off in full to avoid the interest

I tell myself hunting saves me money at the grocery store...also tell myself reloading saves me money on ammo...and buying quality gear saves me money in the long run, buy once, cry once lol

just a heads up, my local Canadian tire had curado's on clearance....not sure which models as I didn't look too closely but noticed all the red flags in the glass case, maybe worth checking out -
Pflueger Patriarch spinning reel…...
bare foot wader replied to Billy - Curtiss's topic in General Discussion
it is light and smooth, but I found it didn't stand up over time, Mike highlighted those issues...it also did not survive being dropped, where as all my other reels have handled the occasional drop without worry regarding the spool sheath, I would take it off, extra line never hurt anybody, especially if it's an all purpose reel -
Interesting product for back lakes fishing.
bare foot wader replied to John Bacon's topic in General Discussion
exactly what we ended up doing the folding aspect is nice, but 3k for a piece of plastic is insane...if it was priced around 1K it would likely be a better seller -

http://predatorplastics.com/page10.html is this the same company? when I first saw these last year I was immediately ready to buy, and they actually had stock at a local dealer and checked them out, pretty cool, seems sturdy and highly useful...but the local price was 3,599...it's just way too expensive -
pretty sure it was posted here last year, remember seeing it, French Canadian guy

definitely sounds cool but not sure how practical it would be, since my iphone sucks in the cold are they making heated iphone cases yet lol

"This is what a STOLEN a pair of polarized fishing glasses looks like. If you know this individual, you should "encourage" him to bring me $65. This money can be given to any staff at the Dixie with a note of apology. This is your chance." She was trying to reach out to him via social media, give him a second chance...most wouldn't do that... need to read the facebook comments...this individual did reply, and his comments say a lot about his character..in her last post she says that she turned it over to the police Dixie Tackle ShopOkay everybody, calm down. I am turning it all over to the police. I tried to get my point across....and it went bananas. I tried to give an opportunity and apparently that didn't work out. I am turning everything over to them now. Thanks for all the support....I think it is amazing!

St Thomas is a small town, grew up there and I fully support the public shaming, it was clearly effective, she tried to let him do the right thing but he declined....she's a super nice lady and has the best tackle in a small crappy town, good for her, hope the cops have enough to pursue charges
-
this exact situation is happening in Merrit, BC with Douglas Lake Ranch, so yes, you can be charged for tresspassing...(although the DLR situation is riddled with interesting facts, not black and white by any means) there is no legislation which says there must be public access to a public lake, perhaps it might differ at a provincial level but not that I've heard of

BPS beats Cabelas hands down in Canada...but that's a different discussion...

well done a quick disconnect to be able to screw in ice anchors with the drill would be pretty convenient -
nah, debates are fun every guide has days they don't like their jobs....I learned very quickly guiding is NOT for me...I do not like arrogant, obese foreigners that don't know how to fish and insult you when the fishing sucks LOL most guides in industry, that are not owner operators, get a daily wage and it's ball park 40-60% of what you're paying, take that daily wage and divide by the hours and it's not as high as most would expect maybe...those daily hours are 2-3 hours extra on top of the fishing hours, preppig and cleaning, etc it's tough work...they are the hostess, server, chef, janitor and manager all in one... fly guides at exclusive lodges and salt guides tend to make more than freshwater I always tip cash, and not on the plastic cards I worked at a heli ski lodge and I tallied and allocated the tips from each group to pilot, guides ,masseuse and chefs...now those are big tips! makes fishin tips look like peanuts
-
not all guides make big bucks, very few do...so why not tip to offset their wage?...any in my humble opinion, they work much harder than servers...not sayin a servers job is easy we usually tip 50-100 per person
-
well, why do you tip a server in a restaurant? they bring me food, that's what I expect when I go to a restaurant research only gets you so far, still a crap shoot at the end of the day

sad but avoidable....perfect example of how not to do it refilling inside his garage...

$5 for 1lb tank where I am, 2 and a half a day on average, more on a very cold day...the savings add up quick...having refilled 20lb tanks for a couple summers, sure there is a risk but as with anything, common sense goes a long way anybody seen these before? for $20 (plus shipping/customs) these seem like an alright deal http://www.propane-refill.com/products/refillable-propane-cylinders
