  1. I stayed at a different resort on the same island. There was a nice cliff right off the resort you could cast off and we caught lots of little guys on shrimp and smaller spoons. There were apparently bigger fish there but i didn't see them. One guy would take a hobie cat (little sailboat) out and drop some shrimp in the deeper water and hooked into bigger snappers. One really big one and a shark bit it in half on it's way up....which was both scary (basically directly out from the beach) and really, really cool. Advise you take hooks for fishing with bait, and spoons/heavier minnow baits that you can cast far. And, don't forget to rinse out your reel after it's in the salt water.
  2. One meal of poo probably won't hurt you too much, but doesn't mean I'm grabbing my spoon and digging in. That harbor is disgusting. Don't eat it.
  3. I wouldn't eat it.
  4. If you're looking at bolton, caledon east, or palgrave...then go king to 400 and down. If you're looking at caledon village or western caledon.....you might look at glen williams/terra cotta instead and GO Train in from Georgetown. Area is very similar, but you'll probably add a couple of hrs of free time to your week.
  5. Good opp to test out your casting skills. Hook your favorite bait into it and pull it down. Even more impressive if you can do it with a fly rod.
  6. Doubt you'll see them supplementing an existing population with hatchery fish in Ontario. Screws with teh genetics of that population.
  7. Nice fish.
  8. That's what you call cruising in style. Could be comfortable in that right up to ice up.
  9. Soft baits have (or at least used to have) a chemical called phthalates in them. Not to sound like a "radical", but phthalates are a big deal. Ever notice little girls going through puberty way younger these days? Phthalates. They do a lot of other bad things and are about to be banned in children's toys in canada if htey aren't already. Not sure how large a source fishing lures represent (assume it's tiny), but i wouldn't be just chucking them into the water if you can avoid it.
  10. It's a really good question. Would eventually get into drinking water, albeit in tiny amounts.
  11. I see it often as well, more commonly in the fall but not necessarily late enough for the water to be cool yet......and have thrown a lot of lures in the direction hoping that a musky/pike is nearby feeding on them, but no luck thus far.
  12. Landry - i said the sign is ridiculous. Maybe you can't read. Not sure every cottage owner is wealthy, spoiled, and greedy; and/or deserves your ridicule, but whatever floats your boat bud.
  13. The sign is ridiculous, but i think some of you are way overboard. It's clearly a swimming area for his kids. Public water or not, the ministry does grant some latitude to cottage owners and docks (providing they are reasonable). Also doesn't look like anything close to 100 feet to me.
  14. I wouldn't be 100% certain. More than 100,000 other canadians made the same mistake, and the CRA ended up changing/augmenting their website and brochures as a result.
  15. Pretty sure you can not top it up in the same year....top up in following year(s).
  16. Just get a letter from the homeowner nxt time.
  17. Have an Abu 6501 that has served me really well for several years. I think it is a great bang for the buck. Have no experience with the others mentioned here to compare wtih though. Have heard Shimano calcutta 400Bs are nice, and you may get one for under 200. (note, this is a different reel from the calcutta TE). I also have a revo toro. Not in your price range at normal price but have seen them on sale recently. They have 3 versions (power gear, middle gear, and high speed) and apparently are discontinuing the middle all-purpose one. In retrospect I wouldn't buy another for the price i paid (260+) but if you see them for 180-200 might be well worth it.
  18. 2nd restoule or algonquin. Access point 17 in Algonquin has a couple of nice spots within 15 mins of your car.
  19. The thread title is as misleading as the article....ocean environmental and conservation groups hardly = anti fishing.
  20. Then give him a ticket for no safety equipment. A few hundred bucks, instead of a DUI on his record that impacts his drivers license and insurance. If you're a drunk driver of a car or motorboat, you endanger the lives of others (as well as your own). I don't see this fitting in the same bucket.
  21. ...but that drunk lunatic could have run down some family of innocent bystanders in his paddleboat!!! Wish the gov would focus law enforcement on people doing evil and/or endangering others.
  22. I think Irishfield is right (salamander eggs), though FishnAutographs had the best answer.
  23. 30 x 32 is the same as TS94 in Stowmaster. It is rated for musky but smaller. I picked up the 36 x 38 at Lebarons. Was a special order so had to wait, but they do have them. You could also go to JB's fishing depot and get the same version in a stowmaster. Expect they have it in stock so wouldn't have to wait.. It's the same (arguably better) net as the power stow..
  24. Put away the topwater and cast a bucktail or spinnerbait along the side of those weeds.
