New Website Shows Dealer Cost Of Boats, Engines, Etc.
cram replied to craigdritchie's topic in General Discussion
CarCostCanada does the same thing for cars, and no one has shut them down. I assume GM/Ford/etc have bigger/more engaged lawyers than the boat manufacturers. -
I don't know. Its a small point, but they use the pacific vs. atlantic, apples vs oranges comparison to show the study was flawed (should be wild pacific vs farmed, and wild atlantic vs farmed). As far as I know there isn't a wild atlantic fishery anywhere....when people eat wild salmon its pacific/sockeye/chum/whatever. Not atlantic. Yet atlantic is easier and faster to farm. Wonder how flawed the rest of their argument is. Besides, all the stories about needing to dye the farmed meat so that its actually orange (instead of grey) gives me the willies. Pretty big load of antibiotics as well....not my cup of tea.

Its a really good (and disturbing) documentary. Call me a tree hugger, but i find slaughtering/eating whales/dolphins/primates particularly disturbing.
-
btw - I don't like Italo either. Not sure how/why that show is still on.
-
Cool the jets. Said I used them. Just pointed out its different.

Brain and nervous structure is completely different. Fish don't feel/experience/have-an-emotion from pain the way we do. Frogs kind of do. To be clear - i used them all the time, so not saying all you frog-using guys are evil. Just saying its different to hook a minnow (or musky) and a frog.
-
I used to use frogs all the time. They definitely work, but watching them struggle to pull the hook out of their lips is terrible. I disagree about them being similar to worms (hardly has a brain) and minnows (no sense of sentient pain). Frogs are far more complex.

Like i said, they replaced mine with one phone call -- no problemo. You might have just caught someone having a bad day the first time around.

Not sure what to call it, but the spool disconnected from the axle that went through it. Apparently a common problem with that reel (the guy from aikman's said he saw a bunch). Called Abu and they ordered a fix and then ended up replacing it.
-
Isn't Aikman's an abu repair shop? My revo toro was broken and they sent me there. For the record, my toro broke on the 2nd or 3rd trip and they replaced it. Quite happy with the service.

Raise fishing license fees for U.S. visitors??
cram replied to blue pickeral's topic in General Discussion
Pretty funny that you slam Obama yet celebrate that you guys (and the stock market) weathered the storm and are coming back. The two go hand in hand my friend. That said, still think you should've elected Hillary. -
I'd just leave it be. If you don't fight back he'll get bored and go away or find someone else to be peeved at. Why start a war with the guy (and his friends)....could just make it worse.

Pretty common at airports around the world. Not a big deal. -
In the news yesterday.... Toyota scored a key victory today when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that the automaker’s electronic systems played no role in the deadly unintended-acceleration crisis that led to the recall of millions of vehicles. The Department of Transportation division launched the study 10 months ago with a directive from Congress to find out whether Toyota’s electronically controlled throttles or other software caused the problems, rather than the sticky throttle mechanisms and loose floor mats that had been blamed. The NHTSA engineers who conducted the research were assisted by engineers from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to probe the electronic systems for any signs of malfunction. "The jury is back. The verdict is in. There is no electronic-based cause for unintended high-speed acceleration in Toyotas. Period," said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "Our conclusion that Toyota's problems were mechanical, not electrical come after one of the most exhaustive, thorough and intensive research efforts ever undertaken."
-
In general I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, but this happens to the #1 importer in the US at the same time the US economy is tanking and the gov puts money into the domestic companies. Oh, and after all the rambling about electronics and mechanical issues (which scares the crap out of people), its determined the problem is floor mats. I mean, really?

I for one like a cold beer when i'm ice fishing. Also keep in mind some people see ice fishing as a social event more than an actual fishing trip. Not everyone is a serious fisherman.
-
I like a cold beer when i'm ice fishing. I guess its illegal - so will live with the ticket if i ever get one - but reality is I walk out to my spot. Worse thing that can happen (police wise) is getting a ticket for having open liquor.

Witch hunt.
-
Very cool. Is that from hamilton harbor?
-
Gas pedal getting stuck in the carpet. What an economy-driven witch hunt. Guarantee it doesn't happen like that if its GM or Ford.

If she wants one mainly for reading, you may want to check out the pure ereaders instead (Kobo, Kindle, etc) They're black and white and look way less sexy but reading is MUCH easier on the eyes , the battery lasts way longer, and its a thinner/lighter device overall. Also ~$150. Kobos are at Chapters Indigo - bought one for my wife and she absolutely loves it. Also, there are a BUNCH of tablet style devices coming out this year, so you'll soon have several options and prices will likely drop a bit.

Good news -- Ottawa is overturning the decision.... My link

There are services like Netflix which are legitimate paid-for streaming TV and movies. Apple recently launched a TV service as well. Good alternative to renting movies through Rogers, Bell, or Blockbuster. Netflix HD movies stream at about 1.5-2 gigs per hr (i think). So, what Bell and Rogers are really doing is pushing out content competition. This is not about infrastructure costs.
