Ontario Energy....bunch of scammers
POLLIWOGG replied to fishing n autograph's topic in General Discussion
Guy called up my Dad , said he was from Bell and did he want cheaper long distance service. Dad says yes, next thing you know he gets a bill from a long distance server, when he complained they say they have a recording of him accepting the change. -
I think he just forgot he took the company public, could have happened to anybody.

I was thinking along the line of a few buds and a portable garage.
-
Saw one at an auction sale in the fall, they couldn't get a bid on it. Maybe it was Wayne's.

I run a 6 hp yammy on a 23' glass at around 3500 -4000lb, at idle on flat water it will just move the boat. That works well for jigging. trolls walleye nicely does about 7mph wot, about the same as the 7.5 merc that some long fingered f#$% helped himself to. If we did the math 7mph is about the hull speed of a boat this size. If i go to a bigger motor the only advantage would be more control in dirty weather, no real difference in top end as Ive already reached the hull speed and I loose the ability to crawl along dead slow and would burn a little more fuel. I have only had it out on rough water once and abandoned it for the big motor right away because I had a boat load of guys and it was one less thing to screw with. Question ... Can you get the high thrust option in smaller than a 9.9?

I wouldn't be surprised that someone shot it.

Ok The Red Green way to do what you originally asked for. Got any old fords out in the yard? remember those old floor mounted dimmer switches, you need 2 of those, cheap high amp switches from a wrecker or brother in laws car. They have 1 common and 2 switched terminals, figger em out with a meter. Run the common terminal to the positive of a battery, one of the switched terminals to the big motor and the other to the kicker. Do the same for the other battery. Join the two + terminals of the batteries with heavy cable and a high amp on off switch for the option of charging both batteries and boosting. Both batteries have common grnd. Now the problem is those old dimmer switches you can't tell what position they are in so you have to have a volt meter on each battery. I think what I would do is charge the starter battery with the big motor and the house battery with the kicker, and join the two with an on off switch or relay, switch the two together when running long distances with the big motor and separate them when you shut down the big motor . The problem with isolators is you loose .5v through the isolator and we don't expect much out of the kicker so we want to use all we get. You still want to charge them at home as boats only used to run 3 lights and look at all the stuff we got on them now.

If you got it private the e-test is good for the year but if its through a dealer it has to be done again, just a hidden tax grab.

Aluminum Boat Hulls - Welded Versus Rivets
POLLIWOGG replied to fishinggeek's topic in General Discussion
These might be bigger than what you guys are interested in but if you ever see an avro built Richardson on the dock, chat the owner up and see if he'll let you have a look at it. If I remember right they are riveted ,planked aluminum. In todays market you couldn't build anything like it. There is a real nice 26' welded boat for sail listed on the wellington bait shop's site on the Quinte board. -
Thats the first Ive heard that one. The question of the safety of radar units in the canal systems came up at a power squadron event. A gentleman had witnessed a boater using his radar while tied to the wall and the beam would be hitting the canal attendant beside the boat. A member of the OPP marine unit was at the squadron meeting and said that they had looked into this and were assured there was no risk to them. Small marine radar runs 2-4Kw while our vhf runs 25w. But the OPP say a taiser won't kill you too. If you put an egg between two transmitting cell phones it will cook the egg sooner or later but the egg doesn't have a cooling system like a body does..

"If I put it next to the windshield on the driver side it'll be too close to me..." Are you afraid of radio waves or something, There are lots of guys here that can make you a tin hat. Could you mount it at the top of the planer mast? Might get you a mile more range. Thats where I'd like to put mine but If I forget to take the mast down it would be in to the hydro wires on the way home. I forgot to take the mast down last July, I don't know if I pulled down some phone lines or not but there were a lot of leaves on it.

You want to get them off of there, they will damage the trough if it doesn't rip it down and if they put the trough on good they might pull down the soffit and facia as well. Dig any snow away from the downspout and make sure they are clear or they will freeze up and bust. If you can't do it yourself someone from the city of Toronto can do it for around $25,000.00

I was expecting a cop. Buddy blew by a cop with his 340 duster at around 140 mph on his way home, he was asleep when the cop pulled him out of bed by the hair and beat him up. Must have been almost 30 years ago.

Terry , after he was paroled he bought some gyco insurance and turned his life around and hooked up with that cabbage patch kid.

I don't know if they are going to help get rid of the coons, there is supposed to be a cougar in our area and we trapped 52 coons last summer. I need more cougars.

This was a homemade rig, pretty sure it would have ripped open his 22' searay getting me in very deep ####

My bud put one on his trailer, some fast action on his part saved me from putting it through the bottom of his boat when I forgot about it pulling the trailer out when launching his boat at a steep ramp.

The thing with licensing the income goes to general revenue and the expenses go to MNR. Do away with the license and you do away with the expenses, fund the MNR out of general revenue and raise taxes a couple dollars, by doing away with the cost of administering and policing licenses we save some $ . The MNR makes millions for the province they should be properly funded and not have to do the equivalent of a bake sale for funding.

I see no reason for it to be illegal to go fishing so they should do away with the license not extend it to the point where a future gov. might get smart and get rid of it.

A Little Information about the Drowned Kayaker
POLLIWOGG replied to Steve's topic in General Discussion
Time to require flares on any vessel in open water. On the east end of LO a group of kayakers got in trouble and the first one to make it to shore burned down a building because he didn't have flares. Open water kayaking is getting more popular and yet the least visible boat on the water and often operated by the least experienced people is not required to carry flares, makes no sense to me. -
Check out a local snow machine dealer and they can tell you which insurer is reasonable this year. "Shop around - but be warned - most insurance companies won't touch atv/snowmobile insurance unless you switch car/ and or house insurance to them also." Illegal in Canada but the Gov. so scared of ins. companies they let them do it.
-
I like to hold them up and holler over to some guy 2 or 3 hundred feet away "check out the size of this smallmouth"

Lots of salmon in West Lake this year, they were still there a couple weeks ago. This is probably something like, we got pictures of dead fish and need a story to go with it. If they had pictures of dead cows it would be aliens except cows don't die off every year and that would be a story.

The biggest change to Canadian society was the liberation of women by placing them in the work force when the men went to war. For eg. what would a house sell for if families still had single incomes and what would society look like if kids were raised more by their parents. The Iran, Iraq war was doing the same for Iraq before the Americans invaded and put the fundamentalists in power. By sending the men to war it raises the status of women in society.

Maybe they don't have salt for the ramp because its against the law to salt a boat ramp, the MOE would frown on it. What they should have would be a steel grate of some kind.
