Good to hear, Cliff. Glad your surgery went well.

Didja find them?

The Kawartha opener is almost always on Mother's Day, Quinte opens the week before. May must be starting on a Sunday.

frozen...just like my water intake from my well this morning. After three hours of pouring boiling water down the line and repeatedly priming the pump, I finally have water again. Every time this happens I swear I'm gonna dig that line up in the spring and bury it deeper...then it doesn't freeze for 3 or 4 years and I forget.

I've been keeping minnows in my basement since before Christmas. Five gallon pail, small aquarium aerator, change out half the water every couple of days and I've lost very few minnows. Never keep more than 2 scoops at a time, add a scoop as required.

Without a sled or ATV, go for the pop-up. For all the reasons you already mentioned.

With my Eskimo pop-up, I find it much easier to anchor down at least 3 corners before trying to pop the top or sides. It gives you something to pull against.

Some places know how to handle a complaint: A few years ago, my family was visiting and we all went out to the local "tap & grill" for dinner. Low and behold, my sister-in-law finds a hair on her plate while enjoying her entree. The waitress was summoned and immediately apologized profusely. Without hesitation, a replacement entree was offered(which my sister-in-law declined, she was enjoying the meal despite the hair), her portion was wiped from the bill and she was also offered a no charge specialty coffee along with dessert. Everything was offered right on the spot with no management consultation, the staff had the leeway to make sure everyone was happy. We enjoyed the rest of our meal and left a healthy tip.

Best deal has been at Costco, $180 bucks for a "3" man (better for 2) pop-up. Most stores will be sold out this season though.

Happy Birthday, Cliff!! What were you doing working today? I think I saw you at Burnham Gardens today, though I didn't know it until you left. Strange combination you're selling, the coffee I understand, but washroom supplies? You're not trying to cut my grass are you.

I borrowed one of these from my neighbour (who borrowed it from a friend of his) last summer. Does a pretty good job, cleared most of my shoreline in a couple hours. Expensive though, he told me it cost over $200 at Home Hardware.

It's definetely on the spread in the Tri-Lakes. In the 15 years I've been here, I've seen huge expanses of water get all choked up. The worst is probably around Flood's Landing on Pigeon.

I have the same unit purchased last year. Over the summer I received a recall notice regarding the float in the carb. I brought it to my Toro dealer and they replaced the entire carb, no charge.

This happened less than two miles from my house. Where the sleds went through is an unsafe area all winter long with open water in places, nobody has any business being on the ice around those channels and islands at any time unless they're looking for a thrill. These guys were local and should have known better. By contrast, I have been out with my truck fishing the south end of Chemong all weekend with a solid 11" - 12" of black ice underneath.

I just heard on the radio that there will be a limited elk hunt in the Bancroft area this fall.

Geez, I'm almost embarrassed to report a positive Bell service incident from just a few days ago... Last Friday we noticed our call display on our home phone was not working. On Monday, I called Bell from work and they suggested changing out the in-line filters that were supplied with our high speed modem (which came with several spares). I tried that when I got home with no success. I called back to Bell and explained that it was still a problem. Within an hour I got a call from a tech at their Lakefield switching station telling me he had found a problem and everything should be working OK now, which it was. Both times on the phone with a CSR, I spoke with someone who sounded Canadian and was very helpful. Now to be fair, this was a far cry from my last experience with Bell tech support a couple of years ago. I came home to find my overhead phone line from the pole across the street laying on my front lawn, cut by a passing truck with an oversized load. When I called Bell for repair, I spoke with an East Indian gentleman who just couldn't understand how my "underground" phone line could possibly be disconnected from my house and went on to insist that I unplug all my phones one at a time to see if it was an internal issue. I explained again and again that the outside line was cut and laying across my lawn. When he finally relented in sending a tech, he insisted somebody be home (3 days later from 9 - 5) just in case it still might be an internal problem . I told him nobody would be home but the tech would certainly be able to fix the problem without having to enter my home. It was about the most frustrating half hour I have ever spent on the phone. The next day, the line was fixed and all was good. I don't know if Bell has repatriated their call centre recently, but the service level was night and day.

If the retailers of Buffalo and vicinity are smart, they'll have some boxing day sales...

I used to drive an '03 Liberty with the 3.7L for work. Like others have said, very limited passenger and cargo space, though the newer model does look bigger (not sure of the '08). I drove a Malibu Maxx after the Jeep and it had a ton more room for both. It was not finished very well on the interior, I guess it was supposed to look 'Jeep rugged'. Mine was particularly heavy on fuel (compared to others we had at the time), mileage was comparable to my '01 Dakota pick-up. I believe I was averaging about 13-15L/100km. I even had it back to the dealership a couple times regarding the thirst of the beast. They would do their own consumption test and report it was within specs, although at the very high end.

...and you speak gooder English too...

Well you did better than we did on Chemong yesterday, we caught a grand total of 5 dink perch between 3 of us in about 5 hours of fishing. Everywhere we drilled was 6" - 7" of ice. Still was a blast getting out though.

So I can buy 4 quarts for $31.96 or a gallon for $49.99? Something wrong with the math...

I feel violated by various government agencies everyday...
