  1. Crappie opener on the Tri-Lakes, April 28. Now I just gotta figger how to get some time off work.
  2. I've been wanting to upgrade my old Expressvu reciever to an HD box to get the full potential from my 54" HD bigscreen. Seems the only deals are for "new" customers. If I change to Star Choice, I can get as much as a $300 programming credit on the purchase and install of their system. Expressvu offers nothing, thanks for being such a loyal customer for eight years. Is Expressvu's HD package that much better than Star Choice?
  3. I was just at Bridgenorth Sports on Tuesday to buy some lures to fish Simcoe on Saturday. Frank had lots of minnows and said he has been selling all winter. Maybe give a call beforehand to make sure: 705-292-9751
  4. Bridgenorth Sports is open and has minnows (I'm not sure about other bait). Apparently he gets lotsa guys buying bait for fishing Jack's Lake.
  5. I really thought you were gonna say that the whale's eyes froze during the lift...
  6. I've lived and worked in the area for almost 11 years now, I sell cleaning supplies to the hospitality industry...and I don't have a clue...doesn't ring a bell at all.
  7. Well besides the recent inaugural OFC Poker challenge (thanks for the $65 pot fellas), five years ago I won a 54" Samsung HD-ready rear-projection big screen from a local establishment (that has since burnt to the ground). All I had to do was show up on the odd Wednesday and drink some beer, 6 months later they gave me a TV (I guess I ended up with a few ballots in the box). I haven't added the HD reciever quite yet to get the full potential from the set, but I'm close.
  8. Here's a pic of some lazy pets (are there any other kinds?), my girlfriend's two kittens, Snowflake & Yoda, and my big dog, Bear:
  9. We're looking to make a day trip to Simcoe for some perch in a couple weeks. Can anyone recommend an operator in the area that will provide transport to the huts, bait, etc. Looking for at least a 4-man hut (8' x 8') on some good perching grounds. Thanks for any info.
  10. I would hope that any major auto manufacturer (of any origin) wouldn't base their hiring practises on race (at least in this country). I'm sure that would be considered highly illegal and unethical and just wouldn't fly.
  11. We just got back from Promised Land Camp. Good news is the ice is nice and solid, 8"-10" where our hut was... ...bad news is we couldn't catch many fish, a few perch and a couple of herring was all we could manage. Still had a blast though...Frank & Claire run a 1st Class operation.
  12. I'm expecting to see the same on Chemong this weekend. Most of the lake has only been frozen over for a few days...but already there was some skidoo tracks on there yesterday afternoon. I can just see all the city folks up for the weekend saying "lookit all that snow"...not realizing there might be less than 2" of ice under there.
  13. I spoke with Promised Land where we're booked for this weekend and everything seems to be a go...time to sort my tackle.
  14. ...and a nice warming trend for the weekend...to turn the fish on. 14 day trend
  15. Even more importantly, Lew... North Bay forecast
  16. My guess would be that it just froze over last night... ...maybe...
  17. Glad to see it Maureen, We have a (already rescheduled) trip to Nipissing next Friday. The forecast looks good for some solid ice making til then. Out in front of my place, Buckhorn is frozen almost all the way across for the first time since before the new year.
  18. I got the dreaded call from Frank this morning...cancelled for next week. The ice just isn't gonna be safe enough. Luckily, he was able to fit us in for the following weekend (Jan 19th) and there's gotta be ice by then...right.;
  19. I had a chat with Frank from Promised Land yesterday regarding our trip next weekend (12-14). He says there is a solid 4" across the whole lake right now and he is optimistically confident that there will be enough (8" is what he would like to see) by late next week. He has already had to cancel for this weekend (as I'm sure most operators have). Personally, I'm not so optimistic. The forecast calls for a steady stream of above freezing days and barely below at night. I never would have thought to be concerned about ice for a mid-January trip to Nipissing...next year we might have to book for February.
  20. Broke back perch... ...caught off my dock a few years ago.
  21. The last couple years we've been spending a weekend on Nosbonsing at Birch Hill Camp. Always a good time. Unfortunately, Henry and his family are taking a winter off...so we booked at Promised Land Camp on Nippissing (Jan 12-14) for our annual trip.
  22. Here's a couple of Bear enjoying a boat ride early this year...
  23. I fish Upper Buckhorn a lot...and have been for the past 11 seasons. Overall, I have to say it was my poorest year yet...you think I would have learned something by now. The crappie in spring wasn't bad, though found a lot more traffic on our spots. Only a couple of pickerel once the season opened and not even a hint of a musky from opener til bass opened. The bass fishing was good through July but I couldn't find one bigger than 3.5 lbs or so. After the weather changed in early August and the top-water bite went south, I was at a loss to find anything over a pound and a half. The fall brought some more musky fishing and nothing but a few misses and follows...never a hook-up. Late fall usually finds us dangling some minnows under a float from the dock where we've managed in the past some pretty good perch fries and even the occasional evening pickerel. This year only a few dink perch and not a sniff of an eye. My season on the Kawarthas in a nutshell. A solid vote for below normal.
  24. Figgered this was a good thread to try my 1st post on the new board... ...what the heck, I'll even try posting a pic... A happy girl with her best bass of the season... Well maybe not...I thought we could upload pics directly to the board now...I better go read the help section. Ok... I think this should work.
