  1. You would hope so...but you never know.
  2. I know of one guy that has done some limited fishing on Chemong with a few perch to show for it. I'm sure that by the weekend there should be some more action, including by me personally I hope.
  3. I just got off the phone with Outdoors Card services and was told my new card is valid immediately and it should not be an issue. I hope a CO will agree.
  4. I just realized I may have done a very silly thing the other day... I received my new 3 year license and card and promptly shredded my old card just as I would an old credit card. It just occurred to me now that I might not be legal to fish now until Jan 1.
  5. I bought the Eskimo Mako at Costco a few weeks ago. I think it was $284.99. The Mako has a 43cc motor, the one at CT for $299 is the Eskimo Sidewinder with only a 33cc motor if that makes much difference.
  6. ...weather like this and it's growing everyday.
  7. I drilled a few holes in my bay today, but didn't fish. It's really too shallow to bother. 5" of good black ice though...I'm sure the main lake has less, but some good cold weather this week should make a few inches. We have very little snow and only a couple inches forecast for tomorrow.
  8. I did speak with someone who was fishing Chemong today. Apparently on about 5" of ice.
  9. I had no issues with the hut at all. It worked great. Sets up in a couple minutes and comes down even quicker. Bring a cordless drill with a longish 1/4" bit for pre-drilling the anchors. Peg the corners down first (make sure it squares up) with the corner with the door to the lee of the wind. Pop the top and then all four sides in no particular order. If it's at all windy, tie down the two windward sides or they may pop back in on you. We were out in at least 20k winds at times with no problems, any windier and I'd rather be in the house anyways. The hut required very little heat to maintain sweater temperature even at -20 to -25. I really have no complaints whatsoever. The longest part of any move on the lake for us was manually drilling holes in +20 inches of ice. This year I have a gas auger, so that solves that. It really is just a two man hut, three can be done, but it's tight if you want a couple holes each. Here I am with my first ever winter fish on Buckhorn:
  10. On my way home today, I was surprised to see some kids playing hockey on the cove around the corner.
  11. We got both last winter fishing Buckhorn & Chemong. We weren't targetting them of course, we were just using small minnows for perch. I know we're not supposed to post OOS fish pics, but this one was exceptional:
  12. The Costco in Peterborough has a large orange flip-over with 2 built-in seats called the "Fish Inn 2". It was quite roomy and looked quite rugged. It was $599. They also have a blue pop-up called the "Kingfiher 3" that looks identical to the red Eskimo "Quick Fish 3" pop-up that I bought there last year. Still the same price at $179. They still had a few Eskimo Mako 8" augers for $284. I bought one a couple weeks ago, my ice looks to be ready for a test drill in another week or two.
  13. ...'nuff said.
  14. No snow since last week here...sucks to be in the snowbelt don't it?
  15. A good solid freeze starting...
  16. After watching last night's debacle...I would be betting "under"...
  17. This is my only "true" 5 pounder, caught on a smaller north Kawartha lake a few years ago:
  18. I was explaining to Bear the proper food chain...he didn't get it.
  19. Once the ice is safe... ...ya gotta travel in comfort...
  20. BRRRR... Looks cold:
  21. I don't think a nuclear plant can be built for only $28.5 million. I imagine it would be in the hundreds of millions.
  22. What's that got to do with it? By that logic, the more we pay to renew our plate sticker, the more we can expect to pay for a fishing license? I just renewed for three years and was surprised at the price as well.
  23. I only put about 5000km a year on my truck. Are you saying I'll need to replace $1000 of rubber after only 25000km? Doubt that's gonna happen.
  24. No...but they're subtley forcing you not to...
  25. When am I allowed to cook? What about retired people on fixed incomes who are home all day? Some like to be in bed by 9pm, not just starting their chores for the day. Maybe we all need to become vampires to avoid "peak" hydro rates. It's such a joke it's not even funny.
