I just picked up a 5'6" Fenwick highlander UL and threw my 1000 Sahara on it. Great combo, although I only use it for trout fishing. Like others, I would go with longer blanks if you want it for a spring crappie rod, as I find it's tough to make overly accurate casts with a very short blank.

Bingo. It's funny how we bundle up in semi-cold fall conditions, but when the same temps roll around in April everybody is frolicking around in t-shirts

Gull Lake is a good lake for smallmouth, and was apparently stocked with rainbows once upon a time, but have never seen or heard of anyone actually catching any. If you like bass fishing, it has a free launch and is super easy to fish.

I'd like to know why you think that's AT ALL relevant to this topic.

snells are super easy. luremaking.com is definitely your best bet. my winter project involves catching as many pickeral as humanly possible.
