  1. going in and grinding in the corners has never been marner's game, nor should it be. Hes a puck handler and skater, not a dump and chase kind of player. No doubt guys finish checks, but Marner was Toronto's best player in the playoffs last year. Hes gonna be fine, no one is going to run him and concuss him like they did back in the 90's just to try get the guy outta the game. That kinda crap is dying quick, its not worth cheap shotting someone if you yourself miss the entire series due to a suspension. Look at what happened to Kadri last year. On that exact note, I have no idea why everyone still to this day has forgotten about the fact that the leafs didnt have Kadri (he was suspended 4 games in the first 5 minutes of game 1) and no John Tavares. Or Jake muzzin for that fact. Yet somehow they still took Boston to 7. Boston is almost identical this year except subtract Rick Nash from their line up. Also add another year to Chara's career. Please take time to consider the fact that the leafs were relying on Bozak to centre the second line while Plekenec was centering the third line. Thats a serious far cry from John Tavares Auston Matthews and Nazem Kadri. Oh and guess who was playing second pairing D? Jake Gardiner and Roman bloody Polak lmao. Boston exposed Polak and Hainsey all series. Hainsey is still around so yes thats a bit of a weakness, but Rielly has improved and now your second D pairing is Muzzin and Dermott...those are some very serious changes for the leafs. Quite literally the only take away was JVR. on another note This is pure comedy gold...we tried to warn the guy but we all knew he was a bandwagon jumper from the get go lol. What team will he jump to next...my bet is on Winnipeg. Ottawa is quite literally the perfect example of how false confidence in a bad team can equal the death of your franchise or damn close there to it. Thank god the leafs lost that series to boston back in the day when they blew the 4-1 lead. All of the underlying numbers said that the leafs were lucky to even be in the playoffs. If they won that series there was basically 0 doubt that Nonis was going to do absolutely nothing but leverage to future the next season in order to try and win the cup with a mediocre franchise. Instead they lost...and then subsequently missed the playoffs the following year. The tank commenced and the Shannaplan began. 3 years after the boston series the leafs selected Auston Matthews first overall and the rest is history. The story of the sens is hilarious...They were a barely above .500 team (4 games) but got helped along immensely by the NHL's loser point. They made the playoffs despite maintaining a negative goal differential and relied on a neutral zone trap system to beat teams by 1 goal a game. Their goalie got extremely hot and incredibly their trap system got them to the conference finals, where a far better Pittsburgh team solved the trap riddle and put the sens to bed. Sens management and ownership thinking they had a contender worthy team leveraged the entire farm and franchise when after a summer of watching game tape, every coach in the NHL solved the riddle to the sens trap, their goaltending returned to its mediocre self and the franchise collapsed with their false hope. I honestly personally dont believe that Ottawa survives this rebuild. I dont think Melnyk truly cares to spend $100,000,000 a year for the next 4 years to watch a team do absolutely nothing. Technically the sens should be well on their way to a rebuild this year because they should have tkchuk and hughes...except they gave away the first overall jack hughes away for a 20th overall draft pick lmao...brutal
  2. York Regional Police‏Verified account @YRP 2h2 hours ago More WHITE OUT - Our Marine Unit officers are out on Lake Simcoe responding to calls for service. They are advising that visibility is 10ft or less due to blowing snow. Avoid being out on or near the lake if possible. #ONStorm you have got to me kidding me guys...use your brain. I love putting cop's lives at risk because you needed to catch a few whiteys...they should leave em out there. They are no doubt in huts and dressed properly, they will survive 24 hours.
  3. the intensity of JT was awesome.... like If I am playing hockey in a game against john tavares...he is quite literally the last guy on the entire team that I would want to make mad...much like crosby, they are the kind of guys that if you get them mad...it doesnt work in your favour they are just too good and will then impose their will on you. A narrative that hasnt come out yet but will...JT in the playoffs, hes a point a game player historically.
  4. Im embarrassed to admit that at the end of the first period i texted my buddy and said...this reminds me of the old leafs...Is this really happening? And then sure as poop just like every other time I have felt like "this is the old leafs the up 4-1 leafs" they prove me wrong. This team seems to have that "clutch" that ability to score and be the team that when the other team has the lead their fans are terrified. I spent so many damn years watching the leafs blow big leads, where if they were winning by 2 goals you know they might totally blow it. Or if they got up to an early lead the other team used to always score before the end of the second period to give them that momentum going into the 3rd. Feels good to finally be on the other side of things for once. Let me remind everyone it wasnt just a come from behind and tie it and win in overtime game. They score 6...yes 6 unanswered goals in 2 periods of play. When the leafs feel confident and are playing well, they are scary. Its a matter of getting the full 60 out of them and having everyone rolling at the same time. Hopefully the playoffs brings that out of them. I dont think theres a team in the NHL that wants to try and defend them when they are really moving. Montreal had been playing some pretty damn good hockey but like my previous post said, the depth absolutely killed montreal on Saturday. Shaw had 2 points and was a -3! its great that montreal has some grinders that can chip in offensively but you cant seriously expect a guy like Shaw to try and keep up with Matthews. Or domi to somehow outplay John Tavares...its just not going to happen. For as much flak as Nylander has taken this season, he finally has his wheels under him again and the 3rd line matchups hes facing regularly is making him look even faster than he already is. Hes like a wind up toy, they give him the puck in the defensive end and he just skates through everyone and creates chances and nobody on the defending team's third line has a hope in hell in keeping up with him. The flashes of brilliance are everywhere, they just need the consistency and full effort for 60 minutes a night. oh...and the whole "someones gonna run marner talk" no...no one is...the league just suspended connor mcdavid for 2 games for a hit. The NHL has changed. time to get your mind outta the 90's, they were a quarter of a century ago. I know im guilty too, i think the 90's were 10 years ago...1994 is the difference between 1974 and the year 2000...think about that for a second.
  5. ive never seen homemade batter turn out like that...interesting indeed.
  6. Wonder where the idea of calling a northern pike a jack came from. when I grew up in Flin Flon we caught lake trout, perch, pickerel and jack fish. calling crappie calico bass is hilarious because that’s a saltwater fish
  7. your consistent argument is that Nashville kept knocking people out...oh wait...could it be that Nasvhille is a perennial cup contender? A team that is heavy in defensive talent, has incredible depth and can score when it counts? discounting a team with a good goalie and an even better d core when the playoffs comes is a recipe for disaster. Hence why my confidence isnt high for the leafs deep in later rounds.I am not confident in the likes of hainsey and zaitsev to get the job done. The one thing that they are by far and away the best at in the entire NHL is forward depth. The problem comes when someone gets injured it changes the entire make up of their forward line ups. Hence why you see them shopping heavily for a 3rd line winger at the moment. They are an absolute matchup nightmare for any team including tampa, the third line that they carry is totally unparalleled in the entire NHL to a ridiculous extent. Luckily the playoffs are the exact time of year when 3rd and 4th line guys make the biggest difference. Its impossible to ride a top line in the third round when you play every second night. You need your 3rd and 4th line guys to contribute big minutes. Notice how tampa absolutely steamrolled boston in the second round last year? They matched up just fine with the bergeron line, and then their D men were capable of performing zone exits unlike toronto who was relying on hainsey and polak to try and get the puck out. Once they had that solved...boston had absolutely no answer for the kucherov line, and still dont. Comparing Boston's 3rd line to Toronto or bostons second line to Tampas is a joke Bostons second line debrusk krejci and karson kuhlmen???? VS Gourde Johnson and Kucherov! are you kidding me? how about third lines? Bostons third line Nordstrom Frederic and backes VS Johnsson Kadri and Nylander lmao give me those match ups any day of the week. Back on the Habs...the one and only reason they are dangerous is because they have a goalie that when capable is quite literally the best goalie in the entire world. What iteration you get of him come playoff time will determine montreals fate. They rode him to a conference final not so long ago! They still have absolutely no one playing for them, but a hot goalie is a hot goalie.
  8. ya...the habs arent beating tampa...its a nice thought but if you seriously think the #30 powerplay in the league and #20 penalty kill stands a chance of stopping kucherov and stamkos PP i want some of what you are smoking. The only way you beat tampa is with a bit of forward depth, Basically their only weakness is their 3rd and 4th lines. Which in the playoffs matters...but they are by far the team to beat in the entire NHL, they arent the old washington capitals that just racked up 1000 goals in the regular season to fizzle out in the playoffs. They have been there, have the experience, and damn are they good. Kucherov is a beast, the only reason he isnt getting respect is because hes russian.
  9. lmao the local dealer in PAB was talking about that boat...for the close to 2000hp it only does 60 something miles an hour...kinda disappointing, but it does sleep 8...so you win some you lose some lol. Theres a guy in pointe au baril with 1350 hp strapped to the back of a scout...the boat is incredible, but i wouldnt wanna pay his fuel bill.
  10. gotta love the ref levelling marner in OT and causing the 2-1 meanwhile the refs sure helped the hell outta boston last night. ugly
  11. Joepa, I can relate to this so much, every year at bass opener I spend the week fishing and every evening the signal to go home isnt related to the light, its related to the sound. One minute the bugs are manageable, the sun fully sets and you hear it...its like a distant hum. The next thing you know you look down and your hands are literally coated with a layer of blood suckers. Usually this is when we pack up and head home in the boat...you then hold your breath while tying off of the boat for the night as quickly as possible. Typically by the time you are done tying the boat the bugs have found you again and you sprint inside and spend the next 20 minutes killing all of the mosquitos that have found their way into the cottage in the millisecond you had the door open.
  12. I spend half of my week up in Pointe Au Baril as it stands...heres a clip of the skeeters from last June You wouldnt believe that bugs can get so bad that its literally unbearable, but in this case it actually is. I usually wear a hat, sunglasses and a buff drenched in mosquito repellent, just to be able to do things quickly outside. Without them you are quite literally eating bugs non stop.
  13. child abuse I didnt salt water fish until I was 26 years old...putting a kid that young on salt water fish is not fair because hes never going to want to catch a boring pickerel ever again lol Dont you dare get him on some tarpon, ill call the authorities
  14. look at these sens fans, cant even post a picture correct, the heck kinda junk is that supposed to say.
  15. good to see the boys keep the ball rolling last night...also good to see the scabs lose and fall back to 6 pts behind toronto. Now boston can cool of with pasta out, leafs lock up that home ice for round 1
  16. this is definitely something I would need to make sure of, cell phone reception and good internet. Hopefully being closer to Parry Sound would help with that. Generally cell phone coverage in the area is very good, infact i typically get better coverage in PAB vs at my parents house in georgetown. yes Definitely standard stuff up there, thats why we drain the water lines literally every single time we leave the cottage for more than a day. yup definitely think the idea would be to buy a small tractor with a blower, much like we have at the lake currently as our road is not serviced. Also helps to fix the road when washouts occur. Much easier than hauling wheelbarrows of dirt, been there done that! I appreciate this comment because this is something I have thought about in great detail. 1. I definitely will be working from home for close to another year before even making any decision. As weird as it is, the city in a way can be extremely isolating. Especially living in a condo, there is absolutely 0 sense of community. I dont know my neighbors, have never talked to them. Even when I owned a house, trick or treaters etc never once came to my house because it was on a main road. I lived in a semi detached home and the only time I ever spoke to my neighbor was when he tried to tell me that the fascia on his awning was in perfect condition, meanwhile squirrles had eaten through it and were now nesting in the attic over my porch and I couldnt stop them because they were coming in through his side. I ended up having to get the city to go after him...Fun right? 2. An important factor in this entire decision, would be pending on my girlfriend's ability to still maintain her apartment in the city. This whole idea sparked up because we currently both have our own places, except I spend 4 days a week up north, 2 days at her house and then usually one night a week I am home in my own apartment. My girlfriend has a job in the city and will be staying here, but the thought here is why do we need two places here? I drive from pointe au baril to toronto every week almost anyways, would it be so different to reverse that drive? 3. I generally hate and avoid crowds, Youd never find me at a festival, or fishing show or any of that kind of stuff, im generally out on my own or with a friend fishing. My girlfriend is much the same except switch the fishing for reading. We both hate crowds. 4. Why of course, i have the best winter hobbies of all, snowboarding, fishing and snowmobiling. Winter was actually my favourite season prior to me owning a boat, then things kind of swayed the other way lol. 5. I honestly dont know if I like gardening, I did a little tiny bit of it at my old house, but now that I am in a condo I cant do any. Important to remember here folks, Im not actually truly a "city person" I spent the first 8 years of my life in Flin Flon Manitoba, I then grew up in Georgetown, prior to it becoming an extension of brampton. I used to think that some day I would just move back there, because growing up there was awesome it still had a small town vibe, was quiet and everyone knew eachother...times have changed and I swear on my life, there is no damn chance I would ever consider living in the GTA unless it was in the actual city. I literally think that living in Brampton or Mississauga is the worst kind of hell. Luckily, my dad and brothers are both engineers, my dad specifically works in non-ferrous hydrometallurgy so unless you have 5 hours to talk about pumps with him you just avoid the conversation lol. All of this input is friggin awesome.
  17. take a look at a shimano SLX they just came out and look damn good for the price.
  18. its not just here ketch if anything the place is actually on the up and up as property prices soar...its the whole city that has a gun violence issue. Gangs and the drug trade arent going anywhere anytime soon, and as long as people are doing drugs, the gun violence isnt going to stop. This is how its done elsewhere in places like the United States and Jamaica etc. so unless somehow those places stop (never going to happen), then the problem will only grow. ill have a chat with my old man about the well at the lake and how that is managed. Luckily I also have 2 civil engineers in my immediate family, plus an additional chemical engineer that specializes in "water" so I have some good resources to consult that way. What are you running on Jimmer? or what would your preference be for heating? I am astonished that your taxes are actually so low, considering the fact that I live in a condo and pay close to that, mind you property values are ridiculous, hence high taxes. The toys thing, yup, snowblowers, quads, skidoos, my boat all things id love to have a nice space to store and work on if need be, funny enough living in my condo beside a park my life is fairly quite as it is. But nothing beats the silence of the north. At least for me that is. I also like the idea of "it takes 20 minutes to drive there" and low and behold, no matter what time of day it is, it actually takes 20 minutes to drive there. Funny how that works, for me to get to hockey on weeknights it can take upwards of 20 minutes on what should be a 5 minute drive. exactly...this would be a big transition and one I would definitely get all of my ducks in a row before locking in on. Looking at real estate in the area, I could be very close to mortgage free after cashing out of the Toronto housing market. Pretty good for a 30 year old. any idea if this type of thing can be done prior to buying the home i.e. in the purchase of sale agreement? Also, the cottage we are on is a septic bed system, which we recently just had to redo...i think it cost around $10,000?
  19. Hey guys, As most of you would know, I am a city dude, own a condo in Toronto and cottage in Pointe Au Baril most weekends at my parents place. A recent change at my work has resulted in me now working remotely and at home which subsequently allows me to spend far more time at the lake. Ive begun to realize that the only reason I still live in Toronto is because 1. my girlfriend works here (she lives in her own condo) and 2. I play hockey here. As the months pass I am starting to realize that I find myself nearly every week waiting for my wednesday night hockey game to finish so that I can get up early thursday morning and head up north. I easily work from home up there and find myself in much better spirits for the rest of the week. I may not always get to fish, but the ability to tinker on the boat, snowmobiles, fishing gear etc, and simply do yard work is something that I really enjoy and that I do not get to do at all while living in a condo. Added to all of this, and maybe I am just being a wimp? but the city itself is getting big, and the violence seems to be getting worse as the population grows. Shootings are becoming somewhat of a regular occurrence. Just last month one happened across the street in broad daylight 15 minutes before I was about to walk my dog to the exact spot where the shooting occurred, 2 weeks prior to that a building down the street was absolutely lit up with automatic gun fire and the icing on the cake was the shooting that occurred in the lobby of my building earlier in 2018, where the front doors were riddled with bullet holes. I know you must all think that I live in the projects...sadly not at all. I live in a 2 year old building of high end condos at the corner of dufferin and lawrence. Not the greatest neighborhood in the city, but its whats affordable, and shootings in a building filled with half a million dollar+ condos just shouldnt be happening. So all things considered, I am heavily considering moving to a small house with a big garage up north. Heres where I need some help, ive been a home owner in the city, its simple, the sewage goes down the drain, your heat and hydro come from lines that are attached to the grid. I know that being 15 minutes outside of a place like Parry sound would be far different. So what should I be considering when thinking about living up there? Im guessing most things would be on a septic system, if so, whats the approximate cost of keeping one running? What about a well? How much should I be expecting to spend to keep one going Heat? To what extent does gas service reach the area? What about if I went to a propane system? Or is a woodstove the best way? Maybe a pellet stove? Property Taxes? What do they typically look like for someone living in the country side? Your services are limited but the population base is much smaller, what is to expect? Surprises, is there anything else that I am totally oblivious to that I should be considering? I know I would need a damn good snowblower, or perhaps a quad for clearing the driveway?
  20. if youve ever river fished, youve definitely tresspassed while standing in a river and had a conversation with the supposed land owner to boot. Im a relative rookie and within my 4th time fly fishing in Ontario I had this exact conversation. Still doesnt touch on the time that the guy tried to tell me he owned georgian bay and started recording me while telling me this lmao he also recorded me catching a 4lb smallie off of the side of his dock lmao
  21. about time the PP coach figured out that Tavares and Matthews are capable of passing the puck ? who woulda thunk, when the other team collapses high with 3 players to take away all of the seams and eliminate the marner to kadri/marner to matthews option that all you gotta do is put the puck down to a wide open JT who then has the shoot or pass to Matthews option with only one defender to deal with... Tavares to Matthews, or vice versa...jeez it must have been pretty hard for them to realize that it could result in some goals? good grief.
  22. all of this crap scares the hell outta me. Even more disturbing is the clear sound of an interstate freeway nearby in the guys video the whole time and its "rifle season" gotta love America. Anywhoo...if it was me, I sure as hell wouldnt be running up on people that are armed, while armed myself in the United States, you are literally asking to be shot.
  23. saw steve's post on IG, figured you guys may have gotten out together. Looks like you guys had a good day on the water!
  24. lol sounds like you need a long track skidoo summit! holy cow
