  1. whats even more ridiculous is youve got a capable backup in hutchinson available. They are trying to let sparks work through it in the hopes that he finds his game because he is so young. If you send him out to pasture you basically lose a big time prospect. But lets get serious, at what point does a guy that looks like he is trying to make big saves every shot end up at the end of the rope. his save percentage isnt atrocious but he has a nack for never making the key saves when you need them. Itd be one thing if the leafs ran into a hot goalie and lost even 3-1 or 2-1, but you gotta stop more than that.
  2. oh the whole flasher vs graph debate is totally up to preference...i personally got the best of both worlds...Helix 7 my point was flasher, sonar whatever...i dont fish blind is what i meant.
  3. seriously guys, the HT pegs from Canadian tire are the only anchor that isnt a total pain in the you know what to start. When i was using stock pegs, there were literally times you just couldnt start the pegs no matter how hard you tried. I dont doubt the cordless drill works flawlessly, especially for folks that run a cordless drill auger! But for me its just yet another thing id have to carry out on the ice. Between the auger, rod case, hut, propane tank and heater, tip ups, chairs, bait etc its just another thing that id have to worry about losing out on the ice.
  4. I personally have started to realize that Ice fishing really is all about moving around and staying mobile. Unfortunately sometimes it difficult to leave the heat of the hut lol. Weve started to set out huts at a central location and then punch holes all around the hut. Fish until you get cold and then go in and warm up for a while. Not sure if you are using a flasher or not, but seriously I dont fish without one anymore.
  5. They need to move someone if marner is at 9.5+ personally I still think kapanen is gone unfortunately hence they should trade for a rental piece and make a serious run at it this year
  6. Ive always heard Ahmic has decent fishing. Theres also always a few huts out in front of Duck Rock on whitestone lake itself. Easy road access from there too with plenty of snowmobile tracks to hike out onto the lake if you really wanted to. Edit: always interesting...are you saying theres no fishing allowed on Wahwakesh? I was snowmobiling on it on saturday, and now that you mention it I dont think I ever saw any huts.
  7. dont get me wrong, the sound of Corey Perry being crumpled into the boards is music to my ears. But can we take a moment to also appreciate a Defenceman that has a big time slap shot? Dudes shot is boat chattering. Mo needs to get to work on his clap bomb.
  8. two tips 1. the anchors they provide you are usually trash and you will be crying trying to to start your 4th or more anchor. Canadian Tire sells HT anchors, they are much sharper and easier to start. (I still need to experiment with sharpening the stock anchors.) 2. Better than using the crappy string lines they usually provide you with an ice hut, me and the boys use ratchet straps to anchor down to. Simple procedure, put your ice anchor through the hook on the strap and then simply adjust and ratchet down to what length you need. for the extra $40 for both of these things, it will make your life 1000000x easier. You have both of these things you can set a hut up by yourself in 60+ kmh winds...trust me i know from experience lol Edit: Do you fish with a flasher Huzz? Not sure to what level your purchases have gone. Edit 2: I was just looking at photos of that hut, when you try to collapse it, really pay attention to the poles and their orientation. Those style tend to get flipped and make it a real pain in the you know what to collapse. My recommendation, read exactly how to fold the thing down and do it exactly how it says every time.
  9. quite literally, i spend my winter between Pointe Au Baril and Downtown Toronto and yes part of it is that I am probably dressed better for the cold when I am up north and outside (snowpants etc etc) but id take a crisp -15 day over a -2 day in Toronto any day of the week. My uncle has lived his entire life in Alberta and hunts in the mountains through the winter, he will tell you outright the coldest hes ever felt in his life was the time he spent a weekend in Toronto and it was 0 and poured rain all weekend. Jeez I was out fishing crappies a few weeks back it was -12, the sun was shining and it was calm up north...We were out in a sweatshirt, no touques, barehanded fishing totally comfortably.
  10. Zone 14 Bass opener eve, i was at the grocery store in Barrie and came out in the parking lot to this and this sunrise on the credit river on an unsually cold september Morning
  11. Bump, price lowered to $20 they are $50 new!
  12. Wacky weather lately around here man, it was raining inside the house on saturday and the rain was hitting my face...climate change i tell ya. Muzzins hit on Saturday was crazy impressive, stick check knocks the puck off of the man and then levels him. Awesome.
  13. my only gripe with life below zero is some of the stupid stuff that they hype up and make dramatic. One episode buddy took a snowmobile out to cut some dead dry trees down to get fire wood. He spent a couple of days cutting trees and hauling wood on a sleigh. The dramatic music and fast cuts they used while he was cutting the trees down as if it was a life or death situation turned me right off. Like come on, buddy is using a chainsaw...i know thats exciting for city folks..but really?
  14. I literally burst out laughing when he busts out the tin snips The ingenuity of red necks
  15. i dont think I have seen a hit this big by the leafs yet this year... https://twitter.com/TheFlintor/status/1090071040674357249?s=20
  16. View Advert iFish Pro Hi Guys, For sale is an iFish Pro. Full disclosure, i cracked one of the two clips that come with it while unboxing it, but simply put electrical tape on the clip and it fixed it just fine. the other clip has never been used, and it also comes with a spare tension clip as well. This tip up was used for approximately 1 hour, I caught a pike with it, but then switched back to using my HT rod holder. Only reason for selling is because I cant rig the ifish pro how I like for crappies and walleye. Its purely preference, my loss is your gain. I can meet anywhere between Toronto and The French River Advertiser AKRISONER Date 01/30/2019 Price 20.00 CAD Category Fishing Classifieds
  17. I wouldnt cut the shaft...they dont get in the way and even if you run a little skinny water they dont stick up that bad. longer shafts retain their value a lot better too.
  18. ive been in Pointe Au baril and I would say you will be fine. The snow up there is very very sugary and light due to the cold this year. I would be more worried about trying to get through the bush or any trails if you have to. Once you get on the ice your quad will just blow right through it. Although, its starting to get so deep that you might be on the verge of plowing with the front end and then you arent going anywhere. Last weekend guys were on the ice with their quads no problem, but I think they just got another 25cm up there so it may change.
  19. i think he is referring to next year. As of now the leafs look like they are definitely all in, which they absolutely should be. This is the strongest leaf team you will literally ever see for a very long time. You have your two biggest stars on entry level contracts and one of your top 4 D is on a contract year, Another one of your stars (kap) is also on contract year and the salary cap is an issue big time from here on out. Win now, and be competitive later. Trust me Kapanen is one of my favourite players on the entire team, and thats exactly why i think you shop him for a big time D man. I dont think anyone would argue that if you traded Kapenen for Dougie Hamilton that the leafs are not a better team...because as much as we love Kapanen, a top 2 right handed D for a 3rd line winger is a trade you make when you are trying to win right now. Think of that D core! Reilly Gardiner Muzzin Hamilton Hainsey Dermott insanity
  20. ive said it before, ill say it again...kapanen + a D man? or how about gardiner + for Hamilton?
  21. This deal is gonna makea guy like Chris Brock especially happy. but even the stats nerds on twitter are loving this deal. But I still have a feeling that Dubas isnt done yet 5 outta 6 of the leafs D are left handed...its been confirmed that Toronto has been talking with Carolina. Dougie Hamilton would make the leafs look like a really really really heavy contender.
  22. Wish I could help you out Lou, but to be honest, aside from a few locals...guides are few and far between on g bay once you get north of Parry Sound. I know of one guide in Pointe Au Baril, but personally I wouldn’t recommend him for pike, even if he was willing to drive you around. I’ve fished with him before but it’s mostly run of the mill stuff, things you’d easily do and figure out on your own. Plus his boat is a big old kingfisher. Not the best platform for fishing bass and pike. My concern is that you may have people willing to “guide you” but I’m not so sure that their willingness equals results. Have you considered fishing the French river instead? I definitely know that there are multiple guides that offer services out of the area there. the complete lack of quality guides in my area is something that has had me thinking for a while that when the right time comes along, I may just end up making the jump to get the proper insurance and safety requirements to start guiding part time in the area. For the time being though, I’m still young and enjoying the fishing with my friends...but maybe the day when everyone moves on and has families and I’m left to fish alone, I will go full out. Ive tested the waters a few times with close friends at both my locals and on their home lakes and ive done a pretty good job. Some day...some day
  23. I think you are fooling yourself if you think Mckinnon is only slightly worse than Mcdavid. I think you havent watched Mcdavid play enough. You have to remember that line on colarado is the equivalent of putting Matthews, Tavares and marner on a line together. Their stats are over inflated. Mcdavid is more than a scorer hes a game changer. You need to see who his line mates are to understand. recently he was on a line with friggin kassian as recently as 2 weeks ago. To get him, it would take mckinnon and rantanen and a first, and even then I dont think edmonton does it. This isnt the olden days where trading away the greatest player of all time bailed your team out of financial trouble because you could add cash to the deal. Edmonton traded gretzky because the dollar was so poop that they were going to go out of business even while selling out every single game and being the best team in the world. To this day its still debated whether they should have done it. Unfortunately for Connor, he isnt going anywhere. Fortunately for the Edmonton fan base, he isnt going anywhere. There is literally 0 reason to watch the edmonton oilers at the moment except for the fact that the best player on the planet is playing for them. Hence they pull good crowds and still have a revenue source despite being abysmal for the past decade.
  24. crazy enough, it turns out the rope lure technique is against the fishing regulations. I believe there was a thread around here somewhere where the matter was discussed and confirmed by a CO that you cant use rope to hook a fish! funny enough, the gar we have caught have been out while fishing largemouth. They ended up eating whacky rigs and somehow we managed to get them in. I have never been able to get the big ones to bite at anything, Ive seen multiple 50 inchers sunning themselves and usually when i throw a crankbait at them they simply lazily swim away from it. Its fairly common to have them come right up and check out your lure though. If you are running a crankbait through a school of them, usually you can get a hit from the smaller more aggressive fish, but getting the hooks into them is very very tough.
